Hi all.

So my group is getting more and more invested in their Horus Heresy armies. As I couldn't decide on a legion, I went with the Solar Auxilia.
But I don't really have any feel for what I should get. 1d4chan is pretty much everything I could find for the different units.

For example: the Leman Russes don't have side sponsons. Can I use the basic plastic kit and leave the sides empty or would that look weird?
I also like the look of Solar Auxilia Russ Incinerator from FW, but this is the only FW variant for Solar Auxilia. Is that pattern the Mars Alpha, sold for the DKoK with a Ryza pattern turret?

What I ordered so far:
- Tactical Command
- 2 Las Rifle Sections
- Flamer Section
- Storm Section with Volkite Chargers
- Dracosan
- 2 Basilisk/Medusa

It will take me a lot of time to build and paint them, but I like to plan my armies in advance and toy with some ideas.

So what units would you suggest for the next purchase?
I was looking at a Malcador Infernus to roast some Marines! Possibly a Leman Russ squadron, too. Storm Section with Power Axes, because they look fething cool!

Plastic Russes will do just fine, no need to buy fancy alternate turrets. As a Volkite lover, I love the Volkite Russ, but it isn't really a good choice compared to others.

Some comments:

Put a tank commander in a Malcador - fun times

For Lords of War, check out the Stormhammer or Stormsword - both are pretty brutal and will shred marines Typhon style!

The Malcador Infernus is also another nasty choice especially if you equip it with Chem munitions. And as they're heavy support, you can have 3.

Also, allow me to mention Outflanking Vanquishers...

I usually run a superheavy tank company from the Leviathan detachment.

That said, when I have a Tank Commander, I put him in the stormhammer for fun times

Thanks for the replies!

So a Stormhammer and a Malcador Infernus are settled then
Again the question for GW vs FW kit: any need for the FW Stormhammer version or does the GW Stormhammer/Baneblade kit just fine?

More (battle) tanks or more infantry after that?

@Unit1126PLL: Isn't Leviathan a 40k supplement?

Yes. The LR Incinerator is just the normal Mars Alpha hull with a different turret. Which also answers your question about how the normal LRBT kit looks without the side sponsons.

The Stormhammer is a FW-only kit that is not included in the plastic Baneblade box. And, if you look at the pictures, it should be obvious why. The whole center section is resin and looks nothing like the Baneblade, only the side hull and tracks from the Baneblade kit are used.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Ohh, you're right. Too many Stormxyz and Xyzhammer in the description on the GW site that I misread. Thanks!

He means the Leviathan detachment Force Org chart for HH Age of Darkness games. It consists of:

1 Compulsory Lord of War
2 Additional Lord of War slots
Allied Detachment

It also waives the 25% requirement for Lords of War and gives the main LoW a warlord trait (Legendary Destroyer) as the FOC bonus.

I agree with the Russes. Buy 2-3 plastic ones, and magnetize the turrets, so you can use all three standard, and then try to pick up the other turrets on Ebay.

Where can I find the detachments? I only found the standard FOC for AoD so far, but have only flipped through Book IV so far and read the unit entries for Solar Auxilia.

That's not even 20% savings... I can get better deals from resellers.

Only for the Leviathan Lord of War (the compulsory one) the other two still have to fit in 25% allowances -meaning 2500-3000 point games to field a superheavy company.

For example: the Leman Russes don't have side sponsons. Can I use the basic plastic kit and leave the sides empty or would that look weird?

Enough people don't take sponsons. The tanks look fine (it's generally a good idea with ordnance main weapons anyway, since you'd be stuck firing snap shots only).

Leviathan, Castellan and Onslaught are alternate FOCs which are in either the big red books or the Horus Heresy Book II
