How do you paint numbers or apply decals on zimmerit ? Last time I tried I removed a small square of zimmerit from the front and back of a tank and applied the decal into the recess which worked ok.

I want to try the turret next but it seems to be really hard work. I can either remove a tiny bit of zimmerit and drop the decal in but its not correct, the numbers were painted over the zimmerit. Free hand is another option but the numbers would be sooo small it makes it nearly impossible.

Has anybody else conquered this perplexing issue ?

Image below is what I am after:

I would guess lots of micro sol and micro set as that would break it up nicely. WInterdyne has a great tutorial that is out there somewhere which is generally the best way to do transfers and I could see it working here too.

Yeah, it'll work, but it's hard work. You will need to do several applications of microsol, and tamp down with a brush during each application, working air out to the sides as best you can, allowing each to dry after tamping down. It will take several hours overall, so it's worth batching up. You'll also probably need to needle the decal (a REALLY sharp needle) to allow air out as you tamp 'em down.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I already use Micro set stuff so I might go for a combination of both.

By that I mean I will try gently sanding a more even area over the zimmerit and them Micro Sol the hell out of it.

I will post up a picky when done

Nice tutorial by the way.
