Hi folks,
I mentioned previously that i was on a self-imposed purchasing moratorium (probably before being forced on a wife imposed one) and got a few PMs from folks doing the same thing.
This is our support thread, there's no judgment from me here
So what is something you haven't bought but totally would have? Have you slipped up at all? Are you progressing through your existing plastic piles well?
I just somehow mustered the discipline to not purchase a nisb storm claw set for less than original rrp. Also, no slips so far and good painting progress. My loophole has been tool andb paint purchasing, which totally doesn't count!

Until my Warmachine Convergence of Cyriss army is completed I am not allowed to buy anything. Unless it's primer/glue/paint etc.
And damned ebay and their cheap 30k tacs is constantly tempting me.

I promised myself that 2015 I would paint more miniatures than i bought with a factor of 2 to 1. I failed. I am set to do the same this year.

I keep buying, and really need to stop and catch up on the painting. I slipped last week and bought some scourges. I promised myself before Christmas I would catch up on the projects I already have, and buy cases instead to store them in. I've bought one case, and a company and a half of space marines :( .

The best time to stop buying space marines is the other week. The second best time is now.
Seriously though, don't beat yourself up, kill off some projects so you can buy more guilt free!

Mine was a slightly modified vow for 2016; I would buy into no new gaming systems in 2016 with exceptions for KoW since I'm mainly using my old WHFB models and already-paid KS pledges from 2015. That obviously still leaves a lot on the table that could be bought, but I'm trying to go with baby-steps and most of my existing game systems are pretty complete on what I have.
So far, I've managed to avoid any new KS projects and FFG is mercifully not releasing a ton for X-Wing and Armada that I want to be picking up en masse. We'll see how the year unfolds!

I'm considering joining in this as I haven't been able to really find an army I've liked as much as when I had an Iyanden army going. The current codex outright destroyed that and had left me looking around at a bit of everything really. I've tried to start a battlesuit tau army, but between that and my interest flickering around to marines, ad mech and necrons I feel as if I'm just wasting my money when an idea hits and I go with it.
Really I could just stick with the tau as I have the basis of it already now, but I just see those 35ish wraithguard, wraithlords, wraithknights and a revenant and then realise that you just can't get a game with that stuff anymore because of the stigma around the eldar codex.

I'm always coming up with ideas of new squads I want to do with my marines, but I'm doing a good job at saying no to myself. I know I've got enough bits lying around to do most of what I want. The only time I'm allowed to buy marine bits now is if I couldn't do something without a purchase. Purchases must be under £10a month until at least 50% of my existing back log is gone.
Space Marines really are the devil, a broader range of customisable models I have never seen. Only Dreamforge rival them for multipart diversity and they don't even touch the sheer variety of cross-compatible kits that exist for marines.
I also keep looking at various Guild stuff for Malifaux. like the Lady Justice crew, but I have half the Sonia Criid crew, a box of Guild Guard and a box of Guild Riflemen to complete before I'm allowed to buy more there.
I held firm for most of 2015, and I'm hopignt to improve the self discipline further in 2016.
My one weakness is keeping up wiht Anvil Industry releases. Im very bad at not inst-purchasing whatever new bits they put out.

I've been doing 1-in, 1-out for about a year now, in terms of $ at least. It is pretty easy to keep track of as everything goes through my paypal account, and its been working well. I've made a decent dent in my painting backlog and it makes me really critical about whether to start new gaming systems or armies (or even add to existing armies).

I was on target last year for my paint more then I buy vow. Then the BaC box dropped, and ~40 more minis got added to the heap. I’m not planning on stopping cold turkey, but I do need to make a dent in my old stuff. I do have a long list of things I covet though, but not a lot of budget to pick them up. Lack of hobby funds in the best ally in a situation like this.

I'm on a complete moratorium on spending any money except for essentials right now. I need to save about $1100 for a security deposit for a larger place due to personal reasons and I really need to do this as quick as possible. I hope once I move it will have enough space for a good game room. I am hoping to rent a house with a basement.
I have plenty of miniatures already I can paint but I find you always end up needing glue, a paint pot that dries out or something will pop up.

Exactly this. "Oh damn, out of wash", "I'll need bigger magnets for this", "needs stronger glue", etc, etc. What's worst is that these small things add up and the I see I'm actually spending quite a lot

I'm on a total self inposed ban except for a few items at the the 2 or 3 local shows for some frostgrave stuff. New baby and new kitchen mean i need to be super careful, and I've got little hobby time.
I'm pretty tempted by the turtles kickstarter, hobbit stuff whilst it's still on discount, and the entire frostgrave range.
I'm currently making a board from some building scraps, and bidding on a weta troll (for the wifes birthday, honest).
It's going well so far.

My usual limitation is to spend no more than $50 on my hobby per month. This includes paint and glues.
Even when I have had several months in a row when I haven't bought anything, the limit stays the same (I don't roll-over unused funds).
It is helped by the fact that my hobby started out being self-funded (no gifts of gaming stuff - everything I had I bought with my own money and if I couldn't afford it, I didn't get it) courtesy of a crap-paying job for quite a few years.
Even when I got a better paying job, those austerity measures had stuck with me to the point where I am uncomfortable spending large sums of money on my hobby.
This even surprised the wife - whom would let me buy more than I do, but respects that I don't.

I have cut myself off from buying models until I get some of my many unpainted/unbuilt models done. My only exception is for an Imperial Knight, I want to practice on one before I start working on my Warhound Titan. I want to have one army for every game I play completed this year. I have also cut myself off from my other hobbies. I need to buy a house before I can add to my collections.

I had a vow to paint what I already had before buying anything but its not going to happen. My vow to never again buy any of GW's crap has been going perfect on the other hand.
I was meant to paint 5 minis a month in 2015. Needless to say, I painted none and I dont see 2016 changing that.

I made a vow this year that for every new prohject I would finish 2 others first. So far 0 projects finished, and one started. I'm off to a good start .
At least so far I managed to refrain myself from starting any of the others that have popped up into my mind.

One of my new-year resolutions was to not spend more than 50 EUR a month until I had sold everything in my Ebay box (around 500-1000 EUR of stuff at current Ebay prices). Problem is I just do not find the time to make pictures. Maybe it is a psychological thing and I JUST CAN NOT LET GO....?
I missed a couple of Infinity releases so far and crowdfunding on a 50 EUR budget is just not feasible, so I hope I can manage to at least put my miniature stuff online anytime soon...

My 2016 resolution is reducing my backlog.
So far, I only ordered modelling materials, paints and one Ogre hero. So far so good, but we're only 1 month in^^
The next purchases are a Stormhammer, Ogre Charonites and the Deathwatch boardgame. If I get to the second half of the year with these, I'm more than happy

I should join the no purchases club. I'm working on a 10 man Gal Vorbak and a Spartan for my Word Bearers army, 2 nightscythes, 10 lychguard, 6 wraiths, a Spyder, Nightbringer, like another 20 warriors, and 2 ghost arks for my Necron army, and several more things in my backlog for my BA and DA armies, my Hordes Legion army, and Warriors of Chaos stuff, and...
I think it's official. I'm getting one of the new Space Wolf start collecting bundles, and that's it for one year. I'll have the miss change my paypal password. That's probably gonna do the trick lol

I feel ashamed. I caved in and bought a Frostgrave warband along with the rulebook.
But at least it was only $50 for everything. I've made worse purchases. On the bright side I have gotten through a lot of my Warmachine stuff. I managed to do 4 Warjacks and a Caster last week and today hopefully I'll do two more 'jacks along with some infantry. Convergence is a lot of fun to paint.
