Krieg! What a hole...

if so, Is it just a custom color scheme are do you have your own fluff and characters and such too? Tell us a bit about your custom army?

What? Space Marines aren't the only faction that can have custom subfactions? I am not sure I follow...

What's left of Cadia

I took my Cadian Imperial Guard, and I made up an entire Regiment. I gave them a name, some fluff, and I'm in the process of naming all the leaders of the force. At the moment they're just the Cadian 15th Mechanized "The Unbroken", and a little bit of background. But, at some point I intend to have a fleshed out history for them and everything. Other than that I name the Captain of my Ultramarines.

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

Originally I had a single regiment but in order to fit the fluff better my army is now an alliance of unified regiments, sort of like how in the real world we have 'coalition armies' or 'allied forces'. They're called the Salvatores Liberation Army (SLA) and are made up of numerous regiments that deploy together. So I'll say that my infantry platoons all come from a single regiment, my vets in chimeras from a different regiment, my Russes come from another, etc. But they all wear the same uniform and colours.

My color scheme is a simple dark Brown trousers with a sort of Maroon jacket to give them an expendable WW2 soldier feel. The metal plates are light green though (shoulder pads and chest piece) to make them more visually appealing. It used to be dark green but it looked inappropriate on the tabletop against other players brightly coloured armies. Also they have blue warpaint across their faces, as I once tried to paint eyes on them, failed horrifically, and covered it up by painting the top half of everyones faces blue.

My orks have origins in death skull, blood axes, and snakebites, and this add up to the tactics of the Waaagh of my boss mek. A combination of a love of dakka combined with elite cybork nobz with the choppiest weapons teeth could buy.
My usual warlord is a bigmek on bike with sag and da thinkin kap, who made himself the boss after some Mork inspired kunnin coupled with his constant personal cybork upgrades that make him bigger and more killy.
The name is boss mek Geer gutz and his "Waaagh gutz"

I have another style of orks that follow the "big 'un", a giant ancient ork the size of an imp knight. The focus of this Waaagh is waves of boyz coupled with spamming tanks and trukks.

@geargutz, those are really Fantasic. I'd love to play a game against an army like that.

I have 5/6ish armies but I realized all of my fluff revolves around two factions of space marines so... meh sorry guys. My Salamander chapter is pretty fleshed out though, I have nearly the entire chapter named (Like each soldier). They were a part of the original salamander legion that just barely missed the Isstvan massacre because of warp interference. They found themselves in the 39th millennium instead of with their brothers on the battle field. I've kept track of every battle I've had at my local shop with them to flesh out the story more. Attached to that I have a small inquisitorial force that was sent to spy on my chapter (Renamed the Phoenix Drakes after being spurned by the current salamanders and not being fully officiated by the imperium as yet).

My other legion is a very tiny but growing group of Chaos space Marines led by a core of Thousand Sons who are fighting the good fight with the powers of darkness. It started with the idea of how I would gain favor from Tzeentch besides acquiring new spells, Khorne likes his skulls sure but the battle is what matters, Nurgle loves new diseases but wanton decay and destruction feed him most. So with Tzeentch I figured that intrigue and plots would be Tzeentch's cup of tea and would allow this little schism to play out. From their my tiny coven has recruited other traitor marines who still fight for the imperium using their dark gifts, Death Guard who stayed with their legion to preserve their own lives but took particular relish when fighting other forces of chaos (And weakening the dark forces). Iron Warriors who didn't share their masters petulant demeanor but saw the potential of these warp-spawned machines. (So far thats what my small chaos army is but as I think of reasons for other legions to join I'll be painting up other chaos marines to join them.

I also have a tyranid army (massive-ish) but... I just like nids xD

I have a large unbuilt ork army but never got around to really building them so I haven't fleshed them out, though I intend to start with a small Heralds of Ruin campaign that I'll be playing soon.

Finally I started a really small necron force but those probably won't get a story until I put together an actual list with them, I just really liked the new fluff when the first newcron dex came out.

Well, my Chaos Space Marines are a band of superstitious pirates pulled from dozens of different chapters/legions/whatevs... but admittedly it's more of an excuse for me to go crazy with customizing/painting and not having to worry about any silly "themes". Hey those Spawn models look cool, as does that Apothecary. But how can I have something so Chaos-y and something so Loyalist in the same force? ...PIRATES, that's how!

I play a Trade Federation Tau army. They're a sort of a yellow to gold colour in scheme, and the idea is that they're a pseudo-mercenary legion that works for those willing to pay the most. Now, I know this sounds very anti-Tau, but think of it this way, they're highly skilled and are hired by those who need services and don't have an army, but have a lot of resources. Now while the first bit is purely financial, it is lucrative, and more so, if the relationship continues, what's the say there's no suggestion that those hiring them could get free services if they simply join the cause, join the greater good, after all, their only protection is this Tau force now, and they can put in a good word for them with the main empire after all... All it will take is turning over forces and resources to the greater good, but they can live as the kings they are now, not worrying about the their present troubles any more, just sign on the dotted line, and even if they don't, once the full working force is Tau, they have enough control of operations to direct things as needed.

It's really just a Water Caste initiative. Time is money, friend.

I have my own Marine chapter, the Imperial Avengers (of Horus). They are a loyalist chapter created at the end of the Horus Heresy from marines who had been tricked into following Horus, but recanted when the spell over them was broken at Horus's death. They have no primarch, being drawn from many legions, and their ranks have been replaced over the years with imperial guardsmen who have faced off against Chaos. Their first company is composed of the 9th company of the Gray Knights, who are "on loan" and responsible for keeping watch for signs of heresy and taint among the other marines. Rather than have reserve companies made of marines, its reserve companies are composed of battalions of Imperial Guard who have been trained specifically to battle Chaos.

Were the inquisition to learn of the Avenger's existence, they would be wiped out to a man.

On a lesser note, my Tau army is the personal force of a yet-unnamed Tau Ethereal. As befits a honor guard force, they are dressed in parade-style uniforms of sapphire blue with gold padding - with the personal guard in white with blue shading.

@Tinkrr - that sounds very ronin, and actually fits with the Tau being drawn from imperialist Japanese inspiration.

I never really gave much thought to background for my armies. but here are 3.

My last real Space Marine force was patterned after the Soul Drinkers, a redemptionist force that had been cut off from their resources and fighting for (you guessed it) redemption. They were more mechanized than the norm to get their manpower to stretch just that little extra bit and made a habit of scrounging battlefield wrecks to supplement their equipage.

When I played IG, I patterned them after household troops. I had read the Marchn Upcountry series by David Weber and John Ringo, and loved the idea.

My current army are tau. I really prefer to use enclosed models, ones with no exposed flesh and as such, I patterned my force after those you would expect to find manning an orbital fortress or asteroid mining operation. One of my recent ideas was to scrap my kroot - not much way to justify them fighting in space, and replacing them with orks. And boy can those fun guys fight. . . anywhere.

I've got my own tau "faction", the Harbinger Cadre.

Often engaged at black ops and beyond known space, they are sent mostly when you need to fetch or send a cargo that should not even exist. Thier isolated nature means they do maintenance and repairs in-house, and away from ethereal eyes, And the fact they often spend years in enemy territory means they don't quite have the same outlook at things, and adopted some of they behavior and symbolism of others, and that they are often more grizzled and "junk repair" in thier equipment, using mostly aged weapons and armor, or self made experimental devices.

The biggest influence on the Harbingers are the forces of khorne. With their most fearsome warriors in red armor, as opposed to the green they usually wear. They also have symbols of khorne and scavenged daemon engine parts on many of war machines.
From the necron they learned mostly the value of artificial soldiers, and they set up and employ an abnormal number of drones, and higher AIs. Thier cold, calculate and hateful art of war also seeped in to the higher ranks if the harbingers, who tend to outright annihilate anyone they encounter, abandoning any diplomatic measures.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

Working on it

Here's what I got:

Necrons: Kageros Dynasty- It's very in depth, but instead of explaining it all I'll post a link (http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/672913.page)

Tau: Rix'Lan Sept- Sent from the advanced Farsight Enclave world of Lub'Grahl in the Third Phase Expansion as primarily a mining fleet but secondarily a colonization/military fleet. Encountered Ork Freebooterz that inflicted severe damage on the fleet. Necrons came to help (Read above link). Now the Tau help the Necrons and the Necrons help the Tau.

Renegade/Psuedo-Chaos/Blackshield Warband (It's complicated): The Derelict Legion- Formed during the Horus Heresy, the Derelict Legion started with a small frigate who fled Prospero. They scavenged battlefield after battlefield collecting what they could use (Armor, Weapons, Vehicles). Along the way they pick up abandoned or near dead members from several Legions including the Death Guard, Alpha Legion, Salamanders, iron Warriors, Iron Hands, Sons of Horus, and the Raven Guard. Similar to the Black Shields in how they went about. So the small fleet of ships since the Heresy has gone from system to system to salvage what technology they could, recruiting some members of the [Dark] Mechanicus and Renegades/Heretics. Along the way they enter the system my Necrons are in, after hearing word of conflict, looking for salvage. Still working how they come into contact with and eventually work with the Necrons/Tau listed above.

Now for Team 2 (Highly WIP)

Space Marines: Spectral Mauls Chapter- Derived from the gene seed of the Star Phantoms. They did something not so good, and now are sent to the same system as the Necrons/Tau/etc to crusade and prove their loyalty, etc.

Imperial Guard (Kinda): 49th 'Redeemers' Regiment: Working along side the Spectral Mauls for same reason basically.

Ad-Mech: Works with the Redeemers and the Spectral Mauls. Still working on a name and reason.

Inquisition: Working on the name: There to keep watch on the Marines and Guard.

Misc. Factions (Team 3)- I've yet to write for them but just know they're kinda involved

Tyranids, Dark Eldar, Eldar, and probably Khorne Daemons because why the hell not

I'm in WAY over my head..

War Coven of the Coruscating Gaze ~3000pts

Yep! My Sisters are the Order of the Sacred Tome, who work towards fulfilling the prophesies of Saint Raul of Birmingham, in which the Emperor's great work is completed and brought to Terra, restoring him to his full glory. What is the great work? Why, a lexicon of every permutation of witchcraft and sorcery that has ever been and will ever be created, of course! The sixteen volumes that have already been extracted from the minds of the blessed vessels are locked in a void vault at the bottom of their convent on the moon of Arcanis III, tended and cared for by a unit of Untouchable archivists.

My Guard are the Solstice Lunar III, an all-female airborne regiment of sappers who jump from hot spot to hot spot, building fortifications for the line units and breaking the fortifications of the enemy with a variety of carefully deployed weapon systems and tunnels... and sometimes carpet bombing, since they have aircraft around anyway, may as well use them.

My two Necron armies are the Tiankong Dynasty, with a Chinese Taoist theme, led by Phaerakh Zhi Mun, whose father was so great in battle that he was known as the 'god of martial arts', and the Tiankong Guardians, a legion of insectile robots that protect the yet-slumbering tombs of the dynasty.

My Tau Kill Team are Wern'a'shi's Raiders, a scout force from Ksi'm'yen led by a Shas'el famed for her deceptive strategies. Though they use Piranha skimmers to get to where they need to go, they prefer to fight on foot as a focussed commando unit.

I have an Eldar army based on aspect warriors, but they are not from Biel-tan. Or to better say, most of them are, but they live like Corsairs (but I use the Craftworld Eldar army list) and are a small group that live away from the craftworld (albeit people come and go a bit like the rangers).

They have the purpose of finding the missing Phoenix Lords of the Warp Spiders and of the Shining Spears. Yes, Drastanta is probably not coming back, they just refuse to accept it and they are probably wrong, but that's 40k. They receive support and personnel from Biel-tan and Mymeara and Wraithbone from Iyanden (I have a small Wraith unit that represents .. ahem.. "retired" aspect - they fell in battle but keep going as Wraiths).

The recruits (guardians, bikes -just few units) have green armor, the wraithbone is light blue, each aspect has his color scheme but all have a white elm or mask and blood red gloves in honour of the Bloody-Handed God. Some exarch is a "recovered" Incubus and I think i will add Dark Eldar and corsair in the future. Incubi, Scourges, Warriors, Wyches that still respect the origins of their culture and think themselves as warriors first would join as "help". Same the corsairs.

The army is mainly for modelism purpose, so much stuff is small units and 0-1, just the bikes are two units of three and the wave serpents and falcons (that I have to finish) are 0-2.

I have my main force of Chaos Space Marines - The Dark Iron Brotherhood. The remnants of an Iron Warrior Grand Company from the Horus Heresy, now allied with the Black Legion. The warband fluff involves experimentation with geneseed, daemonic ichor and scrap code creating souped up soldiers (basically chaos assassins). Fleet based and focused on raiding for supplies and fresh geneseed.
I have a mechanised chosen force, an infantry based chaos marine force, about 150 marines in total with vehicles, spawn and helbrutes in tow (about 7k points)
I have a small Nurgle force and a Thousand Son force allied to the Dark Iron Brotherhood. I have around 2.5k of Daemons, not much fluff for that at the moment but the new daemon formations might see that amount and fluff expanded.
Got some plans for a renegade and heretic army using de-imperialised cadian models, maybe led by a dark magos contingent using skitarii models and a mutant based army using skaven plague monks and VC ghouls

When he was a boy in the academy's he dreamed of loyally following in Shadowsun's steps and would even look at one of the XV22 sent here for study/practice. One of the many used on Prefectia or so the academy was told. He dreamed of donning the XV22 one day and taking his place at their side, and so he must train and study.

My Commander originates from Kel'shan, but in the line of duty he was set up for a fall because they didn't want another Farsight. They seen the patterns in him at school and knew the boy was too hot headed to be allowed to exist. He was getting in conflict with his superior at such a young age and at one point even refused to slaughter humans and took them prisoner instead.

So they put him in the Breacher teams to kill him off and send him on dangerous missions. He made it back time and again. On his latest return he was up for promotion to Shas'ui, but his enemies knew about the promotion. The difference? After the third time they hired some of their local Kroot forces to shoot and eat him. He went on the run with only his weaponry, armor, and Guardian Drone he treats like a loyal friend at this point.

A series of events with humans led him to surviving, barely. He owes his life to them of all things. It's a long story but suffice to say they hunt for the Shaas'la who escaped from them. On this war torn world the humans take a great risk hiding him, but they hope to gain something from him as well as they are Inquisitorial Agents.

Anyways that should be enough to let you know the basics. He eventually winds up in the FSE as a Commander beside Farsight someone he once thought was going to be one of his hardest foes to defeat and an enemy. Meanwhile the Tau people he fought so hard to try and protect and to serve his people with utmost loyalty have cast him aside like nothing.

He pilots a custom modified Coldstar he stole to make his escape. At this point it's a completely superior but dangerous model to fly due to his modifications. He is a survivor and loner by trade. It's a very long story how he came to be a member of the FSE let alone a Commander, but that's for another time. If Farsight is hotheaded then Monat (Monat is the name given to many Tau when they go on the run and are exiled) is vengeful and suspicious by the time he makes it to Shas'o traits he likely acquired from his time among the humans. He still has a score to settle with his old Commander and he doesn't like Ethereal at all after they issued orders for his death. They even attempted to frame him at one point among other things.

My forces are the following.

- Ork Deathskull WAAAGH lead by Warboss Scuzzer and Warboss Vankraken who each think they are the boss and the other is the 2nd. Nobz are generally confused by the whole situation but questioning leadership results in a PK to the face. The boyz are generally too busy fighting and looting to care while the grots think its a riot until they laugh too loud and get a boot to the gob.

- Tau Cadre that are holding a recently conquered Imperium frontier mining world (these gue'la seemed awfully crazy and a bit fond of spikes compared to the usual gue'la the Tau are use to fighting). They have been cut off from a lot of the newer Tau tech and have been making due with their limited resources. At one point they lost their Ethereal and survived years without Ethereal leadership. Absorbed survivors of another Tau Cadre (including its Ethereal and Commander) devastated by Warboss Vankraken/Scuzzer's WAAAAGH!!! Reinforcements along with much needed upgrades and an Ethereal are in route to the world to begin a campaign to secure the system and establish a new Sept.and the Ethereal's name is Aun'El Cena *cue trumpets*

- Grey Knights working with an Xenos Inquisitor (plus retinue) are investigating the fall of this Imperium mining world to the Tau. Before the Tau invasion rumors of cults and heretical rituals have reached the ears of the Inquisition while the GK sensed possible daemonic corruption coming from those who came from that system.

- A Space Wolves strike cruiser is on a sort of booze cruise of sorts to crush xenos, purge heretics, slaughter chaos, and maybe pick up some sisters along the way. Sensors indicate that the system they entered is inhabited by the Tau. Before making land fall comms where received from a Warboss Vankraken calling all the wolves "a buncha gitz" and challenging the "pups" to a "proppa scrap". Killing Orks sounds a lot more fun than killing Tau for the Wolves.

- Awakened from some sort of stasis sleep these astartes discovered that their strike cruiser is floating adrift in space. All ship logs are missing or heavily fragmented while the memories of all aboard are clouded. All the power armor has been stripped of paint and the few remaining markings show a XIII but with the XI being mostly scratched out. Unsure of who, when, and where they are the space marines quickly begin working to salvage resources and raid wrecks of ships to find both equipment and clues as to what Is going on. The astartes decided to call themselves Void Krakens after the mysterious space creature who also feeds upon ships lost in space. The Void Kraken's strike cruiser detected faint vox comms coming from a nearby world that sounded of boisterous shouting, bolter fire, and as one tech marine described "howling".

A tau force that is comprised mostly of gue vesa. Almost everything is human (even the counts as kroot), all their leaders though are tau....though some gue are battlesuit pilots. They are lead by an etherial in battlesuit (he finds it easier to lead the humans when he is willing to fight on the front lines)(he is also the patron of this advanced combat gue vesa force, he is considered quite eccentric amongst the other etherials).

I also have plans for a admek force. The magos that leads this force believes that the omnisiah is an ai, so thus he dabbles in the forbidden arts of ai development. He was labeled traitor and was sentenced to death by disassembling but was freed by his own ai creations. He is on the run, retreating to the furthest corner of imperial space (somewhere in the damocles gulf).

I... actually don't know. Help?

My Space Wolves are a chapter of unknown heritage who after a devastating battle is forced to call in exterminatus on their homeplanet.
With only a few hundred survivors they drift out into space, but are found and rescued by the Space Wolves. For a few hundred years they were given assistance in getting back on their feet.
They found a new homeplanet and started recruiting new soldiers. As a tribute to their saviors they completely re-organized their chapter, using the Space Wolves style of organizing.
Since they disappeared from the imperial radar for a hundred years the Inquisition assumed they had fallen to Chaos, and declared them traitors and heretics, which is why Grey Knights and Dark Angels hunt them.

Hellish Haemonculus

Boskydell, IL

My army is a combination of several disparate elements.  Each group is listed with name underlined, followed by their tabletop faction in parentheses.

Prophets of Flesh (Haemonculus Covens): Unbeknownst to most, Urien Rakarth is an Ynnead cultist.  He believes, like Eldrad and others, that when enough Eldar dead are collected in the Infinity Circuits (or trapped within the Webway) that their collective consciousness will give birth to a new deity of the dead, who will destroy Slaanesh.  The difference is that Rakarth intends to fill the power vacuum left by Slaanesh's defeat, becoming the Eldar god of pain and suffering.

My Covens units are composed of Rakarth, the few hand-picked subordinates who know part of his plans, and the forces loyal to them.

Kabal of the Bladed Lotus (Dark Eldar): One of the major kabals of the Dark City, the Bladed Lotus is large enough to host more than one Archon.  Archon Naeddre is a rising star within the kabal, the trueborn child of the primary Archon's mistress (although there is suspicion that he is not the child of the Archon).  Having amassed a small amount of wealth manufacturing highly sought jetbikes and skyboards, his personal forces now represent a potent military asset.  Recognizing the value of being a subordinate to a much more powerful figure, Naeddre is a willing co-conspirator with Rakarth, the perfect catspaw because of his (relatively) low position in Commorragh society.

The Ophidienne Labyrinth (Dark Eldar): The Ophidienne Labyrinth is one of the poorer wych cults in Commorragh.  Although the cult prides itself on its modular maze of death (from which the organization takes its name), its sky arena is the only thing keeping the cult in operation.  Since they are so impoverished, the cult has been forced to sell its services to the various gangs of Commorragh.  In exchange for help combating their rivals, the Labyrinth can call on any number of Scourge or Hellion gangs to participate in their bouts, slaughtering captives for the masses (and keeping the Labyrinth open).

Archon Naeddre provides the Labyrinth with jetbikes and skyboards of his own manufacture, in exchange for privileged treatment for his private forces, and accompaniment on his realspace raids.  He also pays for the elite of the Labyrinth to be resurrected by the Prophets, if needed (in actuality a service provided by Rakarth in order to bind the wych cult to their alliance).

The three Succubi leaders are a skyboarder (Countess Corvetta), a Succubus on foot (Kisthene), and a Reaver (the Banshee Queen, represented by an Eldar Autarch with a banshee mask).

The Nixen and the Magpies (Dark Eldar): Two independent gangs of Scourges.  Both with strong ties to the Ophidienne Labyrinth and Archon Naeddre's branch of the Bladed Lotus.

Soaring Spite (Harlequins): The Harlequin troupe focused on aerial battles, the Soaring Spite always finds a welcome distraction in the arenas of the Ophidienne Labyrinth.  They have made it clear that they are aware of all aspects of the alliance.  Although Urien Rakarth is disturbed by the degree to which they are informed, he is content to let the mystery lie so long as they continue to work in concert with his interests.  They often accompany the other factions on their raids, many times without being asked, or even being informed a raid will occur.

Prince Luthais (Eldar Corsairs): Although the Corsair Prince Luthais suffered extreme losses in combat with ork forces, she still commands a great deal of respect from the loyal eldar under her command.  She sought aid from Archon Naeddre, in exchange revealing a truth long hidden from him: the identity of his father: Duke Traevelliath Sliscus, the same as her own.  With the aid of the Archon, she has been able to slowly rebuild her forces, and is more than willing to aid the various elements of the alliance.  Her neutrality from other Eldar factions allows her to negotiate with almost any group within the race, a facet Rakarth and Naeddre find most appealing.  She is an ally of convenience with most of the dark alliance; her only true loyalty is to her half-brother.

Craftworld Lasairhiona (Craftworld Eldar): During the dark days of the fall, most craftworlds did not escape the shockwave of Slaanesh's birth, and were instead sucked into the Eye of Terror.  Lasairhiona very nearly suffered that fate, instead taking heavy damage and nearly total casualties as the shockwave overtook them.  They were caught in the furthest edge, however, and managed to break free, not before nearly a third of their number died from psychic trauma.  A further third were transformed into hideous daemonic servants of She Who Thirsts, immediately turning on their former kinsmen.

By the time all was said and done, Lasairhiona was a shell of its former self, with too much damage and too small of a remaining population to truly survive on its own in the void.  The lived a degrading pauper's existence for a great deal of time, hiding in stellar nebulae and avoiding any conflict, no matter how small.

The Serpent, Duke Sliscus, eventually came to the craftworld's rescue.  He and his fleet assisted them in traveling to the safety of a distant star system, where the Craftworld was able to take up orbit around the Maiden World of Fiadhnait.  First the Duke, then later his daughter (or so she claims) Luthais kept Lasairhiona supplied with the materials they could not create themselves, even defending them from outside threats.

The leaders of Lasairhiona bridle at having to work with arrogant upstarts like Luthais, or worse yet the very monsters who brought about the downfall of their species, but they have little choice.  Even with the support of the exodites below them, the craftworlders have only a fraction of the strength of the True Kin in the alliance.

Fiadhnait (Craftworld Eldar): The exodites of Fiadhnait have suffered incursions from alien species for as long as they can remember.  Only when the corsair fleet of Duke Sliscus arrived were they able to drive the orks who had been their primary enemy from their system.  So when the Serpent brought a crippled craftworld to them for shelter, the exodites could hardly refuse.

They rarely accompany members of the alliance beyond the boundaries of their world, although a few groups of young and foolhardy eldar have left to see more of the galaxy.  They instead provide a safe harbor for alliance members to retreat to.  Many pursuing forces have made planetfall, their scans concluding that the minimal levels of technology on the planet must equate to virtually no hostile presence.  They inevitably learn different when they are overrun by primitive eldar swarms.

The exodites of Fiadhnait are adept at using fear as a weapon.  They sow terror wherever they go, and prefer to let one or two enemies flee on occasion, in order to let their reputation grow.  The orks, chaos bands, and rogue traders have all, for the most part, learned the message: to tread on Fiadhnait is to invite death.

My exodites are counts-as CWE, using Wood Elves models.

My army group is Taskforce Harbinger and is made up of a Deathwatch/admech cooperation attempt to warn of and blunt further nid advances into the Segmentum Tempests. Far to the galactic south nestled on the fringes of the veiled region sits a hollow moon that the blessed light of the astranomicon fades at. Here lies Fin Custodite Lumen Watchtower keep of the Deathwatch. Master of the Watch Loghain Quillion sits as commander over both the Deathwatch Marines of the keep but also, a formidable fleet of warships and troop transports. He also in his wisdom has rescued as many guard units with tyranid fighting experience prior to extermination of planets, to train with inquisitorial stormtroopers and further hone one another skills. Within the moon is a Mechanicum project shrouded in secrecy.

Post the destruction of Gryphonne IV. The keep found itself with an abundance of admech refugees further bolstering the fighting strength of the Ordo Xenos base, as well as a rise in production quotas in the moons forges. And the amazing boon of a full Legio Gryphonicus battle group.

Loghian. Has also started coordination with the knights of Raisa to be a hammer for his ground forces anvil. While the enemies focus is on the ground forces the knights use their speed to flank a side and force them into the guns of guardsmen. Drop pods rain elite Deathwatch Marines onto priority targets adding further chaos to the enemies battle lines.

So that's the basics of my forces. Don't have any titans yet but soon I hope

Schrott

My Imperial Guard, Mechanicus, and "Space Marines" is a vast legion that is under the command of one Arch Magos DeSat (Dee-Sat), with Commander Martin Andrews and Lord Commisar Clemont under her command

91st Experimental Tech Guard.

The army as a whole operates as "Tech Guard" or Skitarii. Skitarii after all is a broad term for military forces under the Mechanicus not including the Titans.
Hailing from a planet named Schrott, the planet holds the designation of a "Vault World". An unimaginably vast Vault sprawls underneath the earth of the planet. There is little to no record of its extent or everything it holds. But sealed behind the doors so large a pair of Imperator class titans can walk through side by side with room for an armored battalion between them, untold prototypes, experiments and machines sleep.

The Mechanicus reclaimed the world a while after the Heresy, but the Vault door was only recently cracked open. Its doors able to withstand even a battleships bombardment.

Expeditions have uncovered insane weapons and machines. Testing of which falls to the 91st.

Based out of the Ark Mechanicus ship, Hammer of Creation, which serves as transport, and warship (alongside the fleet of ships that follow it) the 91st seeks out other prototype and experimental machines across the galaxy to hide them from the rest of the galaxy and to test their worth to the Adeptus Mechanicus and perhaps Imperium.

Consisting of a number of tanks, each of which having some modification on it or another, converted from some other model or even scratch built. A decent number of IG troops follow them with some newer Skitarii troops (the new Skitarii guys, Rangers, Vanguard, etc) some newly aquire Death Korp for more foot sloggers and a handful or "Space Marines", which in this case are troops clad in heavy Exo Suits giving me a pair of tactical squads and a Terminator squad.

Beyond the smaller tanks, multiple Baneblade class tanks of all sorts, and beyond them a trio of monsters.
A huge War Zepplien, a Ordinatus Majoris (Sonic Disruptor), and Atomic Artillery.

I have an army wide picture. But I want a new one as its been used a lot.

There is much more fluff to it all that is left out here. But its come a long way from just a small IG army that used old salvaged tanks and guns.

A handful of the Experimental and Prototype war machines and warriors.

Many pics, be warned. Also, might as well put the old full army pic. I want a new one, but first I need to get some time to bring everyone out of their boxes and dust them off.
Spoiler:

Quantum Annihilation, Quantum Singularity Projector armed tank (Demolisher)

Vanguard Tank, Prototype Leman Russ "Mark 2" Still under testing, yet unlikely to replace Leman Russ design across Imperium. 20% effectiveness increase over LR design but 37.36% slower production rate. Seeking method of increased production efficiency.

X-190 Hammer Cannon, Vanquisher Cannon alternative prototype. 190mm high density Ultra high velocity shell. Still under Testing.

High Voltage Plasma Discharge Array, "Tesla Tank"

MXY-9591 Omnissiah's Sword, Ordinantus Majoris, Sonic Disruptor.

Rage of the Heavens, War Zepplien.

Harbinger of Conquest, Atomic Artillery.

Section 9, Experimental Exo-Suit division ("Space Marines")

Yup, I have a custom IG force to go along with my custom Space Marines (they hail from the same homeworld). I also have a custom renegade Space Wolves army, a normal human renegade army and a custom Ork warband. I just like thinking up stuff and writing my own stories. My Dark Eldar are also a custom Kabal, but I have not made up any fluff for them yet. My only non-custom armies are my Dark Angels, Vostroyans and Skulltakers.

The fluff for my Chaos renegades is that they originally were the population of an industrial world that was horribly oppressed and therefore began an uprising against the planetary governor to improve their conditions. The planetary governor however received aid from a powerful Inquisitor, who called in the Imperial Guard and a Company of Dark Angels, and the rebels were defeated. Virtually the entire population that had participated in the uprising, and that was a major problem, for the entire population had to be re-educated, and re-education takes time, time that is not spent working in the manufactorums. Re-educating the entire population would lead to an unacceptable reduction in industrial output. Therefore it was decided that it would be simpler to just purge the whole population and bring in new, loyal settlers from a different world instead. They could start working immediately and so the disruption would be minimal. Only a few of the original population manage to survive the ensuing massacre, steal a ship and flee their world.
Chased by Inquisitorial forces, who want to eliminate the survivors to prevent word of the atrocities from spreading, the survivors have to travel great distances and fight many desperate battles before finally shaking off Imperial authorities. They find a seemingly unsettled, habitable world where they can build a new life. However the Inquisitor is persistent, and never gives up. The fact that someone managed to escape his authority does not sit well with him; it has become a matter of personal prestige. After many years, he finally succeeds in tracking down the refugees, and their new world is invaded by an overwhelming Imperial force. Unbeknownst to either side however, the planet was actually already inhabited by a warband of Iron Warriors, who used the planet as a base for their sinister rituals, and who had watched the refugees settle there with great interest. The fallen Astartes now attack the Imperial force in the rear, and in a savage battle defeat them and sacrifice their skulls to Khorne. The surviving refugees fall on their knees to thank their saviours. And on their new world, under the protection and tutelage of the Iron Warriors, the survivors at last know freedom and prosperity, singing praises to their great new gods.
Even though to the Iron Warriors, they are little more than a renewable resource of expandable cannon fodder, the survivors and their descendants are fanatically loyal to Iron Warriors and the gods of Chaos to whom they owe their lives and everything they have. They despise the God-Emperor and the Imperium, holding it responsible for all the suffering they had to endure, and the suffering the many billions of humans in the Imperium's grasp still have to endure every day. They long for the day they can finally liberate their fellow humans from the Imperium's iron fist and will fight fanatically for the cause of humanity.

The fluff for my Orks and their warboss, Da Great Vishunary, is basically that the warboss fought a lot against the Eldar and saw how they could travel very quickly across the galaxy via the Webway. This inspired him and he now attempts to find a way to secure Ork access to the Webway, so that he and his Orks can travel everywhere and participate in every single fight in the entire galaxy.

At my desk

I'm really loving reading everyone's different ideas about 40k, lots of good inspiration. As my armies go:

Eldar: They don't really have fleshed out fluff, just a few notes for making a list to fit a theme - a dying craftworld with few farseers and therefor not as much comprehensive access to their infinity circuit and wraith constructs (though those they do have are considered the elders and lead the craftworld, assisted by farseers as opposed to vice versa). And they are painted with a space/nebula theme that I love.

Dark Eldar: Grudgingly helping my underdeveloped eldar as they are the same species at the end of the day and they need all the souls they can get.

Harlequins: May as well have my space elves a threesome. A small group that I got for the painting and modeling opportunities. No fluff at the moment.

(I know, my elves are so boring even though I have so many, but now the ones I do have fluff for)

Chaos Marines: A small contingent of Emperor's Children have told incredible drug-induced tales of the maraviglia to a bunch of Slaaneshi traitors, what more can I say?

Space Marines: A contingent of loyalist Emperor's Children that somehow escaped the various massacres of loyalists and have been stealing from the corrupt Imperium to keep themselves going on their quest to reinforce the Emperor's old ways (The atheism and progress-focused mindset etc.). This was basically just an excuse to use my 30k models in 40k with some fluff.

Blood Angels: a Kill Team that represents the characters of Blood Quest.

I have written a fair bit bout my Space Marines and Chaos Marines, but my Eldar and Dark Eldar remain underdeveloped (even though they were my first armies).

Fortress world of Ostrakan

My regiment, 4th Neutran Mechanised is highly infuenced by Wehrmacht, by tactics and apperance. They deploy a lot of tanks and APCs,some stormtroopers, rocket artillery and air support.
They come from ice planet (imagine Skyrim) which was colonised in order to provide support for Garon Nebula crusade and since the failure, colony was forgotten and cut-off. After centuries they remained loyal to the Emperor but without any contact they started to develop their own equiment and armament.

There is also located a Cathedral of "Order of the Silver Hand", which is basicly a peacekeeing force, serving as a police, healing sick and helping the poor.

History is much more complex, but this is the most basic.

Always nice to see the endeavour people bring when it comes to build fluff. This is why 40k setting is so much better than any other tabletop game out there!

Here is mine then, a Russian/Eastern Europe-modern themed IG :

My IG is drawn from the industrial world of Rhayé, Sirius Sector. Rhayé is located near the Ghoul Stars, on the northeastern fringe of the galaxy. In this remote region, the planet and its sector are one of the only lights of imperial authority. Only a handful of SM chapters are deployed there while regular human forces are limited to demotivated PDF and ill-equipped IG units. The thing is that alien and heretical attacks are constant in this region, with little to no support from the rest of the Imperium. SM chapters have for sacred duty to watch for the Ghoul Stars and the unknown xeno threat that lies there, leaving to Rhayé the responsibility of protecting neighboring imperial worlds. Resources are scarce and war is constant, meaning that Rhayé had to design its IG to react quickly and strike hard.

While still being able to protect their homeworld and its highly populated system, the Rhayian Storm Divisions (or RSD) had to be able to keep up with the unceasing exterior attacks that occur randomly across the border of the Halo Stars. Renegade marines, Necron dynasties, Orks and Eldar Corsairs are the main enemies of the Rhayian people, but other far dreaded xenos species are also fought on a daily basis. As the Rhayian people have gone through many atrocities during their youth, they all share a special hatred for xenos and on the battlefield; they use merciless and spiteful tactics that usually leave no prisoners. R.S.D quality is almost as high as Cadian and Krieg infantry and that’s why the Adeptus Terra has always done its best to keep Rhayé doing its duty on this remote region. Likewise, the Ordo Xenos is always pleased to work with R.S.D units when it comes to hunt down xenos infestation, since their grim nature and tireless devotion make them perfectly suited to extreme operations.

To withstand such a dreadful environment, Rhayé has a highly militarized society which can be compared to Cadia’s. Women and men alike are enrolled at their youngest age to serve in the R.S.D, and those who failed to reach the Schola-Progenium level of military qualification are sent to Zek units, auxiliary militia regiments which are mainly drawn for criminals and used by Rhayian commanders as meat shields and repression units. Regular R.S.D units are highly mechanized, with a clear emphasis on shock tactics supported by Hellhounds and heavy artillery strikes (notably with heavy use of Manticore "Katyusha" Pattern, wherein costly Storm Eagle rockets have been replaced by dozens of smaller warheads). But given the unstable nature of their region, they have also developed a counterinsurgency know-how which is very useful to maintain the Imperial grip upon the Border. Uprisings and guerilla are very common and only harsh retaliation from the R.S.D has prevented human colonies to disappear.

A glance at my guys to finish :

On the topic, I have wrote a 90ish pages codex, which is only in French for the moment. I made up some rules from them, based on the DKoK moral checks and so. I also reworked the current IG codex in a general manner, giving it back all the good things it had in the past (Lumbering Behemoth, Ignoring jinking Hydras, Medusa and Griffon artillery, and so on). My guys also have some special snowflake stuff like RPG, MVD visors, Katyusha rockets, AK-74 style lascarbines and Cossacks as (playable) RR.
