Thought I'd put up a blog thread for my Undead Greenskins army, and the other oddities that make it into the army of course.

After meandering around several different projects I've decided what I want to focus on is a rebuild of a lost Kings of War army I had previously been working on. Having to start from scratch was a bit daunting but there are a lot of things I will be doing differently, like actually building my own bases rather than buying resin terrain ones. Although the army is mostly focused on greenskins I'm not adverse to throwing in other races or creatures into the mix, after all everything dies and can be raised, so my army will have a lot of different miniature ranges and bits and bobs.

As such I've dug through my boxes and started to put together the base for the first unit:

Slow progress so far, but should look ok once primed and I can get some paint on it.

Also a quick mock-up of this guy, who will be the counts-as for the Revenant King on Undead Wyrm.

Looks good so far. My one critique is for you to cut your sprue rubble into smaller chunks to avoid it looking like chopped up sprue. The smaller the pieces the better. Maybe slightly longer than an 1/8 of an inch. That dinosaur looks promising.

Thanks! Yep you're right, on reflection those chunks are too sprue like still, hopefully something I can cover up once it's painted and miniatures are on it.

Primer has dried, now I've got to throw some colour on it.

Found a little time to paint tonight, did the starting colours for the base. The greens don't look as garish in real life but I'm hoping washes and highlights will bring the ground together a bit more.

Also primed Mr Dino!

All the components fit loosely together I guess.

Rough colours, zombie dinosaurs can be blue right? Before I do any more I need to break out the green stuff and start modifying him though.

Hoping to get a lot of this done over the weekend, have some stuff arriving next week that I'll want to get stuck into.

While my greenstuff warms up, here's a couple other projects for the army that have arrived today in the mail.

Revenant King on foot.

Some Revenant Orcs for him to boss around

And finally a small amount of progress on my zombie legion.

A couple more models should be arriving shortly, but mostly a lot of painting to focus on now.

Zombie Orks on Zombie Dinosaurs? This is the best thing ever.

Thanks guys! Been ill a lot lately so haven't had much time to paint, but managed to put together a simple colour scheme test for my Orc Revenants.

Haven't had much time to paint but got a few things done lately.

Firstly a bear for Song of Blades and Heroes, currently unbased. Was just a cheap plastic toy I gave a repaint.

Finally got around to basing the test orc from before; again relatively simple stuff.

And some WIP stuff I have thrown some paint on.

Once the weather gets better I will prime the dino rider and see if I can get that finished off.

Finally got together my basing solution - so I can use for both KoW and ASoBaH, however my problem is twofold.

Firstly painted and finished bases no longer sit flush in the rings. This can possibly be rectified with some light sanding and thin paint coats.

Secondly I can only realistically fit 9 dudes on a 20 dude footprint, when the recommended minimum is 12. Not sure how I will get around that.

I feel like my options might be either to poke in lil dudes like zomblins, squigs, etc onto the base in between the slots, or to rethink the whole duality thing.

Have a solution for the basing dilemma, my KoW army list is probably going to swing the way of Orc with Undead allies rather then pure undead - I had forgotten Orcs in KoW have larger bases and thus I was trying to fit them on a smaller footprint than the bases could handle.

Not a lot of progress this weekend, but I gave my hobby stuff a spring clean and got a bit of work done on my rather angry orc dude.

Base colours pretty much done on this guy. I got a head light thing, it’s workable for lighting the model for painting if I’m too lazy to get the lamp out, but not very good for photo lighting as seen above.

Not sure about the skin tone, is pretty darn dark and green - but here anyway is my rather angry looking orc dude.

Decided to work more on his skin, not the best picture but I think there’s a lot more definition now with the further highlights. Will do a couple more touch-ups on him and drag the lightbox out tomorrow for final pics

Going to paint a few more Orcs to have a functional ASoBaH warband, and then it's back onto working on the zombie dinosaur guys.

Ok, I give up. This is probably the most time and effort spent on one miniature, and whilst I have learnt some things from the feedback and going back over things, I don’t think I can improve much more on him without stripping the model. Time to move on to another model before I dwell on it too much.

Now on to base colouring Wurrzag.

Working on my Wurrzag. Felt like it was going ok until I got to the feathers, might have to spot strip them as I used the florescent blue by accident which went terribly on the black undercoat.

I really like that skintone on Wurrzag. For the feathers, maybe a wash to add some contrast?

Thanks guys, I'm real happy with how he is coming along because I think he is a big improvement over my usual fare. However I'm also cautious to not screw him up!

Been doing bits of painting here and there, while my Wurrzag slowly comes together I did some work on my painting challenge entry for this month.

And also a trio of quick and dirty Mageknight repaints for random monster encounters. Might spruce up the bases with some grass/debris etc but they are for the most part complete.

Finished my Orc Warboss mini.

Also had my first test of my ASoBaH ongoing campaign, with a little solo game. Wrote a battle report for it as below.
