Somewhere in the Ginnungagap

With the Blood and Plunder Kickstarting launching tomorrow I figured I'd put up a thread for it. I plan on keeping this thread up to date as possible. Feel free to share whatever information you might have as well.

For those that don't know Blood and Plunder is a historical miniatures game focusing on Pirates during the age of sail by Firelock Games. But why give you my explanation when you can hear direct from Firelock in this exclusive pre-Kickstarter interview!

We'll find out soon enough eh.

Mainly interested in the ships from this one as I don't do historicals, but we'll have to see what sort of price they are and if it's EU-friendly or not first. Hoping to see some lateen rigged ships as well as square.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

So it's up.It's EU-friendly, which is good, and the ships look fairly nice from what I can tell.

Once again, however, we have a KS without high-res images of most of the models and without any objective indication of scale. I know I harp on about this with every KS I'm interested in, but seriously, am I the only person in the world who owns a ruler?

A ruler or a scale ruler?

Game looks good, I like the miniatures and I think the value for the packs is quite good. 49 USD shipping cost to Germany for the first pledge with a boat however is too much. Thats +43% for shipping. No thanks.
I hope this get's to retail for a fair price, so I can pick it up later.

I have serious concerns over the resin boats. Maybe I'm crazy, but those seem... very cheap. It makes me worry that they must be pieced together so that they're hollow, which means bending pieces back to correct shape with hot water, and a potentially troublesome assembly. It also potentially means extraneous costs that the developer isn't expecting, which could impact backers receiving what they pledge towards.

I mean it's very cool looking, and a wonderful idea, but I just don't feel like there's enough information present for me to trust it outright.

A ruler or a scale ruler?

You know, a stick with marks on it to indicate length, usually in both mm and inches.

I just don't get why the idea of taking a photo with one or two broadly-representative models from your range next to an upright ruler, allowing people to discern objectively how tall your product is and what proportions they have, is so utterly alien to most miniature makers. I mean, ideally they'd be providing to-eye and to-top-of-head measurements for every model they sell, but if they consider that too much work surely one photo to give people a sense of whether a new purchase will fit in with their existing collection(should that be something they care about) isn't too much to ask.

I like the metal. Reminds me of back in the day when everything was metal. However did we manage?

I can tolerate metal if its one piece, have they said?

It's nice that they're going with historical, but historically, these guys kind of look alike.

Out of the $15,000 goal has been blown out of the water (naval pun definitely intended) with, at time of writing, over $127,000. Wow. People REALLY like the idea of pillaging small coastal villages.

I've already pledged two of the $550 levels and paid for both Brigantines to be upgraded to Frigates (so my fleet is now 2 sloops, 4 frigates, 6 longboats, not to mention over 60 crewmen! Fear the mighty British Navy). And they have some truly nice free gifts.

Medium cannon upgrades on all ships, plus the initial light cannons: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iHPE7EpTuhI

My Frigates just got a whole lot scarier..... but then, so does the Spanish fortress I'm designing for the island map.

I have spoken with Firelock directly, and they quote there is something "special" at 200k, and something amazing at 250k. I've done my part to make this a reality; $1,100 is not exactly small change to me. Will you take to the high seas as well? If ye dare te do so, make sure ye pay the doubloons for a Frigate! Or ye'll regret tangling with those who did!

[Somewhat related; I am opening a store in the next month that caters to wargamers and historians alike. I will specialize in historical miniatures, and historical military reproductions. I am in the potential list of retailers for Firelock Games when this game is released later this year. However nothing has been finalized, so I will keep the community updated as much as I can without stepping on Firelock's toes. I know they love their reveals (:

I'm very excited either way, and you can bet I will be offering specials and free minis with purchases, etc.]

Finally, apologies to the mods, I didn't see there was already a post. Feel free to remove the other thread, consign it to oblivion, use it for tarrrrrrget practice, whatever. (:

They arrive unpainted; paint them to be unique. Personally, I'm going with a semi-historical paint scheme. My spanish militia are going to be white uniforms with bright blue trim/sashes/feathers/etc. The British, of course, are white and red, but I plan to make the red a little brighter. For the rest, I select colors at random to make shirts, pants, shoes, etc. So long as the color makes sense (only pick out of blacks, browns, beiges, tans for leather items, lime green is a no-no), it will look good.

As always, thin multiple coats of paint, and use a wash.

They are one-piece metals.

Yeah, more like each has a subfaction but thats fine really, maybe keeps things interesting until they can come out with actual new factions.

Thumbs up on one pieces!

With the ships this is pretty expensive to dip your toes in. The starter is less points than their suggested happy medium and its already 200 plus for 2players.
