Hi folks,

I have four old GW figures that don't have legible years stamped onto their tabs (or it's missing outright). From left to right, an old chaos mage (no year/copyright stamp at all!), Legolas (illegible roman numeral, when did GW stamp roman numerals into their tabs?!), a beastman, and a chaos champion.

Can you help me with the year these figures have stamped on their tabs, or in the case of the chaos mage, the year that should be there but isn't...?

Thanks!

I play...

Sigh.

Who am I kidding? I only paint these days...

I don't know the dates, but I do recall that Champion being a favorite of mine. Old Chaos have tons of class.

www.solegends.com is always a good place to look.

I forgot about that site, thanks!

Though I can never find my way around ... I don't see these figures in there, but maybe I just can't navigate the site...!

Ninja'd. I put in an order for a large random lot of beastmen in 1990. The one with the tentacle was part of that lot, so it should be in the late 80s/1990 sets.

Just to clarify, infortunately the accurate answer to the qustion in your title is that no one knows. Bear with me...

The date stamped on the figure is when the figure was introduced, not necessarily when it was made.

Assuming folks here can tell you the date that would first have been present that means that the figure's age is somewhere between the date on the tab and when the figure was last produced.

Further clouding the issue is that a huge number of "Classic" GW items were available via the now-defunct bitz service for many years (sometimes well over a decade) after they were taken out of retail circulation. Much of what was sold via the service was probably older production, but IIRC, when the bitz service closed (in 2008 I think...), there were some items you could buy that were 20 year old sculpts.

Thanks for all the help, much appreciated.

I'm very curious about the Chaos Mage on the left. There's no (c) GW stamp on the other side of the tab (it's simply blank). I wonder if that isn't even Citadel/Games Workshop? I somehow have two of them!

It doesn't look like a GW sculpt to me. Possibly Harlequin (Now Black Tree) or Heartbreaker, maybe?

I was thinking the same thing, I don't recognize it but something about the proportions says Heartbreaker to me.

The Beastman is a Citadel one by Bob Olley, 87/88 release.

The Chaos Bone Warrior champion was also released back in 1988/89.

The Chaos sorcerer, is Citadel, and is also from the same time - 'The Head Taker';
