The West Germans have now been officially unveiled for Team Yankee. A 48 page book called "Leopard" will detail the story of the West German Panzer Division 1, fighting against the Soviets in Northern Germany. The individual figures have not been announced yet, but the preview photos and sample force org charts show Leopard 2s, Marders, Roland and Gepard Flakpanzers, and Tornadoes (among other things). The Germans will also have access to three lists at launch - a Leopard 2 company, a Panzergrenadier company, and a Panzeraufklarungs company.
The book is set to release in July.

The problem with the other Warsaw Pact nations is two-fold -
1.) They'd be fairly similar to the Soviets, with some minor variations. The Romanians were the only country that had their own tanks (a heavily modified and stretched T-55). The Czechs and I think the Poles had a couple of their own armored vehicles. And possible some other stray odds and ends. But aside from that, they all used Soviet kit and organization.
2.) By and large, the tanks are going to suck for about half of the Pact nations. T-55s, at best. Not a problem if you only want to run infantry. But not so good if you want to run tanks - at least until the 2nd tier NATO armor shows up. The other half had T-72s, though, so they'll be on par with the initial Soviet release in the armor department.
Having said that, hopefully BF can get some Pact stuff out for variation if nothing else. The DDR is an obvious choice due to its location and strategic importance. And the Poles appear in the novel. So those are the two likely starting points for other Pact nations.
The British are supposed to get the Chieftain instead of the Challenger in their release. So that might open the door to some of the lower quality Soviet tanks.

As a lover of Wargame: AirLand Battle and Red Dragon i am very tempted to try this game out. What time period is this of the cold war? Bradleys and apaches are pretty sexy . In Red Dragon the West German/France coalition was pretty sexy too btw. Many say it's the best coalition in the game.
Oh and they have both LARS (rocket artillery) and Marders (the tank that is an apc). I may need this game.

So no Apaches. They just barely missed the cut-off.

First pic of the Leopard on the sprue, from the Battlefront Factory Tour article (which is an interesting read in it's own right).

.. And my resistance for this game has now gone
Great that I already have a WW2 15mm terrain setup, so hopefully can just add a few bits and pieces to bring this up to more modern spec.

I really think they missed a trick with the cut-off here. They should have pushed it back a bit and included them, they would be a massive draw for the game.

The game Team Yankee is based on the book Team Yankee published in 1987 by Harold Coyle (who also plays Flames of War). Changing the setting (at least for the original release) was not an option.

BFD, just use the CObra rules if you want them.
No worse than me for my next project being a CUban Army.
But of course at the moment we are basically using 3 fow rules sets for are games.

It simplifies things, and keeps them from getting utterly and completely out of hand. The game still more or less resembles FoW.
There's no KONTACT-5 armor, for instance.
As for terrain -
World War 2 era terrain should be fine by and large. Just add in a few modern things like billboards, gas stations, and modern highways, and you're good to go.

Yes it's a shame. I feel like apaches would be a good attack helicopter. Cobras aren't terrible (least in the Wargame series) but apaches could at least give soviet helicopters a run for their money. Not to mention apaches seemed to have better guidance systems for missiles and such. At least in 'Wargame: AirLand Battle' they had 'fire and forget' missiles as opposed to the ones that required the pilot to stay locked on until they hit (and possibly not even move).

If I get into this I'll have to see if there are enough Soviet players in the neighborhood. I haven't read much so I hope they are playable. Otherwise...I'd love to see the French when they come out. AMXs and FAMAS for the win!

Those Leopard 2s are just as brutal as I thought they'd be. I foresee a lot of very dispirited T-72 commanders.

Of all of the t series why did BF have to pick the most generic one?

Because they're all over the place in the real world. And as a result, people who aren't interested in Team Yankee, but want to refight real world conflicts like Chechnya or the Iraq wars will purchase them (Russia also used T-80s in Chechnya, of course; but Iraq didn't have any).
And also because they appear in the novel. The T-62 and the T-55 also appear in the novel, but wouldn't have been good match-ups for the M1.

Those look great, the Tornado in particular is going to be a must-have.
Has there been any news on whether the infantry for Germany will be a plastic release?

They weren't one of the plastic kits listed.
And given that the US and Soviet infantry are both metal, highly unlikely even if BF had said nothing.

That does make sense, thanks.
Love the little Pah helicopter! A nice alternative and contrast to the Soviet Hinds.
Love some of the terrain pieces that are coming out with this as well, saw some in the flesh the other day and they are very nicely done.
4Ground also has some terrain out which looks good although not on the cheap side!
