Welcome to Dakka and the Space Marines.

Do you have a chapter in mind?

Your list looks pretty good, especially for a first one.

Why the captain? What’s his job and where is he going? He’s got a CC weapon, but you don’t have any units for him to hang with. I’d swap him out for a librarian. They are more generically useful. Captains are great, but need to be geared up, and ideally stuck in a squad that help them get to combat and backs them up once there.

Sternguard are great. One of the more versatile units in the codex. But they are on the pricy side, and die just as fast as tactical marines. You really want to get them into rapid fire range, preferably before taking any casualties. Which is why you often see them in pods. Also, bolter fire, even with special ammo, works a lot better in mass. I’d look for places in your list to shave points to buy these guys a ride and boost their numbers.

As a note, some people like to go combi heavy for a massive alpha strike. I prefer a more bare-bones approach, but like the HFs. 9-10 guys in a pod with 2xHF is how mine mostly see the table.

Scouts in a LSS is a great troop pick. Shotguns are a jack-of-all-trades weapon. If you are playing Imperial Fists, bolters are going to be better for the drive-by shooting role. I like a mix of shotguns and CC scouts in my LSS, but it’s really a mater of taste here.

Tac squads really want transports. Most of the game types require getting to objectives, and footslogging in the open under enemy fire is not the best way to get that done. For the plasma squad, I’d swap the MM out for a HB or a grav cannon, depending on points. You generally want all the squad to shoot at the same sort of thing.

I’d drop the 5 man HB squad. You don’t need that many troops in a list this size. Those points could be spent getting you more killing power (sternguard) or leveraging your other points better (getting the other tac squad a ride)

I like a TML/HB speeder these days, but you need to respect the firepower of the duel MM. It’s more high risk/high reward, but you can push it’s nose up against most tanks and watch them explode. And while it’s still on the table, it projects a bubble of dangerous terrain your opponent has to respect. His tanks might not instantly evaporate if they get within 24” of it, but they have to respect the chance they might.

I like my talon with skyhammers as well. Good flexible flyer.

Your HS picks are both solid.

Overall your list has a good mix of firepower to deal with a variety of targets. The one flaw I can find is an overall lack of mobility, but even then, you have the scouts, so aren’t totally immobile.

Hi Nevelon thanks for the help. I have revised the list however I'm not sure whether to take more devastators to combat squad and soak wounds/splitfire or more sternguard

The only reason I ever take full 10 man Dev squads is when I’m going full-fluff. (There are a handful of other times it can be worth it, like the skyhammer annihilation force, but I don’t play that). While it makes the squad more durable, it also boosts the price per shot up as well. Not a decent trade IMHO. If you were taking Devs for an anti-infantry role, then the bolter boys could actually contribute. But most marine lists have plenty of bolter fire just by being on the table, so I don’t feel compelled to bring more.

I’d take those points and get a pair of transports. Pods and/or rhinos, both have advantages. If you just want to shuffle bodies around, more sternguard is almost always the right answer.

What Chapter Tactics are you using? That might help with adjusting the list and making it more powerful

Hi, I was planning to take Imperial Fists Chapter Tactics.

Also, How would I reduce this list to 500? I was thinking:

Chapter Tactics [Imperial Fists]

+ HQ (65pts) +

Librarian (65pts) [Mastery Level 1, Force Axe]

+ Elites (110pts) +

Sternguard Veteran Squad (110pts) [5x Veterans]

+ Troops (154pts) +

Scout Squad (55pts) [5x Scouts, 5x Shotguns]

Tactical Squad (99pts) [5x Space Marines, Plasma Gun]

+ Fast Attack (70pts) +

Land Speeder (70pts) [Heavy Bolter, Typhoon Missile Launcher]

+ Heavy Support (100pts) +

Thunderfire Cannons (100pts)

I know that the Land Speeder has a different loadout but if i leave them tacked on instead of glued will that be okay? Anything else I need to know?

Not a bad list at 500, but very light on AV fire.

In general, magnets and leaving things just tacked on is a good idea. Gets you a lot more milage out of your minis.

Hmm I could leave the Land Speeder with 2 Multi-Meltas instead. Thanks for your help

Hey man,
I like the list; but wanted to offer a view on the whole "10-man Devastator squad" thing. -I ALWAYStake my Devastators in 10s, because ethe ablative wounds protect the weapons you've paid premium for, and also allow the squad to combat squad into 5 man teams with 2 heavy weapons each, thus creating b2 targets instead of one, ensuring you have an AV threat for longer, and also allowing you to engage multiple targets, albeit at half strength.

another suggestion would be to take those 5 ablative wounds from the devastator squad, and make them into a 5-man tactical squad, then switch out the 5 man tactical squad with heavy bolter for another devastator squad. all this does is changes the sgt to a devastator sgt, giving a free auspex that you can use to boost the efficiency of the otherwise underwhelming heavy bolter, and of course making 3 more heavy weapons opportunities.

-Not sure if this is "Necro-Threading"? but I only seek to help!

A nice trick is to go 6-man devastator in a razorback. Gives you an extra HW for the cost of the squad. I like the las/tl plas but I have seen arguments for others.

If you need antitank I would go with the MM speeders
