Hello everyone, I recently picked up the Open Fire box set, and immediately wanted to move up to the full rules.

I've got this which I managed to come up with through reading various articles and using forces of war list-builder.

I'm not sure of the etiquette on posting lists so please forgive my ignorance, I didn't see any forum rules for posting FoW lists in here, and others have posted them so I believe it's okay?

Thanks in advance for your valuable advice!

Hi. Welcome to Flames of War. Yes, you can post your list.
I would recommend FOW Blog for easy access to list from old book as they are currently not updating.
In FOW, you want a plan to do with everything. Do you have a plan to attack or defend. A way/method/tool to deal with mass infantry blobs, bunkers, heavy tanks.
Also, you do not want to short(minimal) platoon or 2 gun artillery as they bled or are not effective. There is a list that is from Forces.

Thanks for your quick reply!
I appreciate all of your feedback.

Our FLGS is going to run a tournament that is 1420 points, so I modified the list you gave me a little bit to fit that format.

1415 Points, 9 Platoons

I know having 9 platoons is a bad thing from what I've read, but this seems the best I could come up with.

9 platoons is not bad because at 9 platoon you ignore the first platoon lost when you determine victory points. A 8 platoon losing 1 platoon would win 5-2 while a 9 platoon losing 1 platoon would win 6-1. The Force book is a very way to start with. As you go there are lots of better books. Have a good time at your first tournament. Any ideas on mission or enemy list?

I'd try to free the points somehow to run this platoon at full strength. I never liked half- or 2/3rd strength platoons, especially when they're only mid-size and "trained". They'll test and bleed out faster and don't have enough staying power when in close combat against better troops.

It's got it's up- and downsides. bobjoerock mentioned a positive, so I'll go with a negative: in certain missions where you'll defend (which is not unlikely with an infantry coy) an uneven number of platoons will mean that you'll need to put a larger percentage of your forces into reserves.

You can lose 2 PIAT from the mortar platoon to get the 2nd infantry platoon at full strength. As BRB said, if you are defending you will need to put 5 platoons in reserves and 4 on the board.
