Owen and I dust off our Warjacks, fire up War Room and print the new rules to give it a go.

Watching now. Very interesting and I like it!

One nit pick. The rules for warlocks and beasts in in Prime and vice versa. Check the appendices at the back. pg 96 I believe.

These rules are also in the Battlebox rule book and the main rulebook. So you do get both with one book.

That's correct! Appendix C good catch.

Still begs the question; why two rulebooks?

What's left of Cadia

Another great batrep! What do you think of the new rules so far? I quite enjoyed them when I got my own little test game in yesterday

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

Well, the two rulebooks still have the fluff and model showcase for their respective game, so I s'pose it was a case of keeping it as two books, having one really big book, or cutting back on the fluff and model stuff, and 2 books was what they went with.

It's the same game. Hasn't really changed fundamentally, the factions just got a reshuffle.

Some of the game design choices I find interesting. There are sort of two paths to balance in games... either through subtraction or addition. You can remove stuff from powerful units (Focus Camp, no tough on Knockdown, Eyeless sight seeing through woods, Fury stats across the board) or you can choose to increase the abilities of units not taken as much (Warjack Power-up, RoF instead of buying additional ranged attacks, etc).I've always been a fan of balance through addition as it doesn't fundamentally change the abilities the consumer paid money to include in their given army, but is a positive reinforcement to players that spent money but might feel as though they struggle. It's an interesting choice and we've no idea right now how it will play out.

That said, the game doesn't feel particularly new. Even units whose statistics and cards changed a bit still fulfill the same ROLE. My Iron Fangs still jamp. Still crit knockdown things. Slightly less defense... fine. They were camping armour anyway. More MAT... that's nice. Means when someone takes a charge they're more accurate and don't rely on CMAs as much.

I'm doing my best to dig into the new mechanics in list building... but the ROF change doesn't really change a MERC shooting army (Galleon is basically identical with some small stat changes).

I think maybe my expectations are really high; they've billed it a 'WHOLE NEW WAR'... but it's still the same ol' Warmachine.
