I don't have a credit card, nor do I live close enough to a GW store to warrant ordering to there. Is there a certain prepaid gift card I could get that covers international purchases in a different currency?

Check and see if a pre-paid Visa card will work. If so, figure out the cost and load enough to cover that amount plus currency conversion fees.

If you have a bank account, you can link that to a PayPal account.

Allow for your state sales tax (for example, 6.25%-8.25% in Texas), and again 15% for shipping (unless you order £250+ of product, in which case free shipping)

Yeah, I use paypal direct debit to pay. nice and easy.

Like Carlson said, though, their shipping costs are stupid, unless you're buying enough on your own to qualify for free shipping (~$350, iirc).

Often times, players will pool their orders to get free shipping. That could be another avenue for you possibly, order with someone else, give them your money and they order it.

Your local GW can hook you up as well. They have the catalogue and can help you in getting the one you want.

The poster could be a teen, but if you have the money to buy FW, you should have your own bank account you can use a debit card for.

Get ready for fees they do not tell you about and lots of them.

Pay for the model with taxes

Pay for the conversion and the paypal fee that it includes think it was 8$ last time I did it.

Pay for shipping unless you spend I think 500$

When the item arrives you will pay the import fees and taxes for the item that FW said where not paid, and the goverment wants.

Then after you spend days unwarping and building most of the model and filling with green stuff and filling holes. If anything is a problem and you contact FW with pics and other info can take a few days to weeks.
Depending on which FW rep you get you may need to pay taxes and import fees once again at the door.

So be carefull if you give them your bank account I ended up with 196$ worth of fees I never agreed to or was told about.

So if there was just enough in your account you may be hit with not enough money fees. Ot is 40 per try and they try twice.

Also paypal currency conversion is not the most accurate they abuse it a bit. People never cared but paypal exchange rate canadian to usd was 130 canadian for 150 usd. But the RBC conversion had it set at 139$ canadian was 150 usd.

Also with large purchases paypals fees are alot more noticable and they charge for conversions.

This seems to be a Canadian problem. I have never had to pay import fees or taxes, other than the state sales tax that applies to any purchase.

For Canadians, double it if you order 250 quid worth.

Double and a half if you don't.

Knight Cerastus is almost $400, for example...

Almost the entirety of this post can be safely ignored for someone buying in the U.S. The big takeaway is that the Candian Postal system can be the entire bag of dicks, and then some (as people who have done U.S. - Canada trades and personal sales can occasionally attest to).

I have made international purchases before and never had to pay anything ridiculous either. Usually it's less than a dollar for paypal's international fee surcharge.

I did get hit for a surcharge when shipped something via UPS, which is why I try to avoid them like the plague. Out of curiosity, what are you looking at?

Assuming you are a teen with no card, give money to your parents and let them order.

When sending to US gifts of up to $100 are not taxed. So they get a little more than the UKs £34 value gift cut off.

Oh another thing to remember.

FW models tend to be warped so you will need hot water and alot of pressure and buy about a pound of green stuff. The bigger parts and flat parts will never be flat and they will always have a gap about 2 inches in them.

Also many come with holes and such.

I'm not sure you understand what "inches" means.

Also, no, you won't usually have significant warping or gap problems on the finished model. You'll almost always have to bend stuff in hot water, but most of the time it's very straightforward to fix the warped parts and the finished model looks just fine.

Where did you buy it from? Actually from FW or your usual source?

Equally, PayPal doesn't charge the customer any fees for a purchase, just like your Credit Card and Debit Card don't, but both charge the retailer a processing fee.

They are a little less than up to date on their exchange rates, but then you get to see the exchange before you commit to pay, so it really is your choice to accept it or not.

He was part of the last order I ever bought from FW direct.

One christmass was war mamoth, chaos warhound even had the paper saying you have the right to field a warhound lol. The chaos dragon who I used as.... Aww crap forget his name the first chaos dragon. And a bunch of chaos dwarfs.

Ended up with tons of fees and the warhound back plate was so warped that I got a replacement and ended up needing to pay more fees for the replacememt.

On a side note all the pieces I bought from ebay from fw came perfect.

Unfortunately for whatever reason my debit/master card won't process on FW site. I actually put a thread up in the trade forum here and got a friendly Dakka-ite to be my surrogate. He ordered them as a gift so they shipped directly to me and I paid him via PayPal.

Just make sure if you do that, the Dakka user has a positive reputation on the trade forum.

It depends on the model itself. I just finished building my Warlord Titan and it required proportionally less fixing than a GW plastic model would.

Newer models are better generally.

I've never had to pay such crazy fees when ordering FW. I've also never dealt with all the issues that ogre was talking about when building FW models. The only pieces I've had to bend are hoses and cables that come straight and need to be bent to build the model. Hair dryer works well for this.
