I am looking to get into Warmachine with the new release, but I have a tight budget. I like to magnetize arms and weapons as much as possible to keep redundant model count (cost) down.

In warmachine the models look like amazing for swapping arms and weapons on the warjacks, and not so much on the infantry models. Which brings me to my question for the board . . .

Are the light warjacks for a given faction all different weapons on the same body/chassis?

So for example in the Cygnar battleforce box, would the two light warjacks be able to change weapons to become a different type?

Thanks for all you combined expertise.

Yes and no.

Several warjacks in a faction share a chassis, I play Khador so we don't do lights, but all our Warjacks are either Berserker Chassis, Juggernaut, Devestator or Kodiak chassis. You could magnesite between jacks of a particular chassis, but you couldn't really do it with all of them.

Yes and no.

For Cygnar, there is the Charger (light), Hunter (Light), Ironclad (Heavy), Stormclad (Heavy) and Centurion (Heavy), as well as character 'Jacks. Each heavy chassis can be used to make three Jacks, which differ only in their weapons. You should certainly look into magnetizing them. You could possibly get away with swapping arms between the Stormclad and Ironclad chassis, as the Stormclad is basically an Ironclad with added bling (But check with your local scene to be sure). Some Character Jacks are heavily modified, and couldn't be magnetized, but some (Triumph, Gallant, Dynamo) are newer and more readily magnetized.

As for Lights, the Hunter chassis is a problem, as every jack based on it has notable differences to the chassis, similar to the differences between the Stormclad and Ironclad chassis, or character Jacks. For both the charger and Hunter Chassis, there is not much point to magnetization, as you only get one set of weapons per box anyways.

The standalone versions of many heavies can be magnetized. For example, the Cygnar standalone heavy kit that has the parts for the Ironclad, Cyclone, and Defender. Though in that particular case, magnetizing the Cyclone guns is doable but awkward.

The slightly annoying thing is that the battlegroup box versions of some kits are more limited. The Cygnar ones just have the parts for an Ironclad, no Cyclone or Defender parts. Magnetizing might still pay off, though, since if you buy the battlegroup box and a standalone Ironclad then you could mix the parts around to be able to do say, a Defender and Cyclone. Or two Ironclads. You couldn't do two Defenders or two Cyclones without more parts, though.

The light jacks don't have much use to magnetize because, yeah, they don't come with extra weapons and therefore unless you get really creative with converting replacement weapons you have a problem.

The lights often share a chassis, but they come separately, so you only get the weapons for a specific one in the box when you buy it.

Thanks for all the quick replies everyone.

Hmm, so It sounds like I can save a couple model buys, maybe more if I get creative. Swapping heads is not too big of a deal to do either, as they are quite different sometimes.

I like that the stand alone boxes come with more options, notably with the heavies. Even though the battleforce box has only the parts for the pictured models, it's price makes it a steal. The webstore has a bitz section to order any extra weapons or parts for me to swap around.

I think I may just spend some hard earned cash down at the store later this month

What I did with my Cygnar was to get the battlebox and the Ironclad/Defender/Cyclone box. It gives enough stuff to create a pair of heavy jacks. I've done this with a number of other factions as well for myself and for friends.

Though as others have said, magnetizing the cyclone guns is a bit of a pain, but doable. I can run any 2 of the 3 jacks in any given game.

I've also magnetized the Khador set (twice) Legion set (twice), Cryx (slayer and crabjack chassis) and the Circle set. From what I can tell all the kits can be magnetized. Also, some character jacks are simply upgrade kits instead of entirely new models. They are probably something you could add magnets to, but some of them might be awkward. The only Cygnar one I can think of off hand is Gallant. And he has a couple pieces that would not make it very easy. But if your group is pretty laid back and focuses just on the weapons then no problem. But if you want to be strictly, 100% for sure no doubt tourney legal then it will be tough with the character jack upgrade kits.

As mentioned by others the Cygnar light jacks aren't really designed to be magnetized since they are not kits with multiple parts and each is a bit different. I suppose you could probably magnetize the charger, firefly and lancer. But since they don't have kits I'm not sure where you'd get the extra arms from. Bitz maybe, but it might be cheaper to just buy the whole model. But if you order arms, make sure to get the card, too! Hopefully in the future they will make more kits.
