Hey guys and gals

Serious question here for people and if I offended I am sorry it is my feelings towards it. If you like it right on but my feelings are very different so please do not be offended this is not about trying to bug people or throw random rants out but me trying to save a hobby I had since I was 13 and am quickly lossing intrest in.

Now my story.

I am a fluff player army buyer ect. i always bought tons of models for the last 16+ years. The earlier years 100+ a month but for the last 6 years as my income grew so to did my pocket change into spending 500+ a month on models.

I loved collectimg buying painting and having a board scenery per army. I had skaven( hell pit) easly 4k points worth, vampire counts strogi mass ghouls and necro tons of zombies ect which suits the most disgusting vamps lol. Night goblins nearly an intire army 2k worth of squigs then added forest goblins to them. Tomb kings I even took the time to have an intire scenery board made took weeks but it was pretty anoher 1k points worth. Warriors of chaos from all the gods more models then I could count. Empire because everyone needs some good guys for a fight. Orks more then I would ever field atleast 1 of each boxed model.

Then came my babies my prized collection I collected from the first day ogres.
3 tyrants all custom
All special characters twice each from when I first started buying them and then when they where last called.
4 bruisers
4 fire bellies
100 bulls
40 iron guts
40 lead belchers
100 gnolbars
20 trappers
2 hunters
12 saber tusks
20 mournfang
2 scrap launchers
2 iron cannons
4 slave giants
Ogres ridding rhinox 2 of each from forgeworld
2 of each ogre mercs
3 stone horns
3 thundertusks

Then for 40k chaos all the gods 2 k each, eldar 500 points all harleys, orks and tyranids. All valid 2k lists.

And countless FW fantasy and 40k models.

Now I sold everything except.

Fantasy warriors of chaos archaon with bloodbound 80% khorne and some iron kawz I just bought

40k eldar

My entire collection fits on the 2 shelves over my computer. Sold them all because like many others I tried to keep 8th going and failed, AoS is just not fun and my fear that they will do it to 40k got to me so much that I thought get out before the dollar drops on the models no one wants anymore.

So I am finishing up the last few things I always wanted a couple titans, I got a reaver chaos not built not even sure why I bought it. A eldar phantom titan to go with my harley army thats almost done.

Editing because scared I was going to lose what I wrote lol

Now here is the problem.

I go to the website see nothing I want but a few harleys, I like the look of iron jawz since they are ork but the 500$ worth I already bought 4 weeks ago are still in their boxes. I kept the hard cover end times books but even they are becoming iust in the way more and more.

I really am trying to just keep with it but I really get... Frustrated and embarassed when reading AoS books and lore, the old ones where dark and groas and more of a set in the past alternate world type of feel. These books of space stations floating over a stargate to 9 wolrds and him teaming up with a space dragon and a god dwarf to make the world wrestling ork god and then dwarf god blows up and becomes rocks or so ething. Then iron men whos souls from living creatures fight for the guy who is hommies with the dragon appeared from the stargate with lighhtning hammers throwing lighting with robot metal wings or something...... Just I feel like I am to old for this new sifi fantasy stuff, I feel like I am in the middle on a middle school watching spongebob.

The local GW has become mostly teenagers now playing AoS with no rules because the 4 pages are too much to remember.

I just cant get into it anymore and it is kinda making me sad. I loved it for so long but now....... I just feel like I am to old for it or it just not my type of people. So far in the last 5 months I bought archaon and my wife brought me to a gw store and said pick what ever you like for your bday so I grabbed the iron jawz..... Anyone else hit this wall? How did you deal with it?

Oh quick edit I tried to get back into the hobby when I got the iron jawz by buying the book and trying to do the army of lore which I always tryed to for the other armies. Well after doing what I would need and want to buy.... I just have no intrest in doing it anymore... Which is a first for me.

Sounds like you are probably over saturated with it. Take a break from it and come back when you feel like it has more to offer you than it does now. Either that, or it might be time to branch out into other companies' games, which will introduce you to new players, new models, and might refresh your feelings for it.

There is a viable alternative: play Kings Of War for a bit and see if that recovers your joy a bit.
You may be experiencing some remorse how GW "dropped" the old Fantasy game.
Maybe Malifaux would work for a bit?

Seconding the Kings of War suggestion. Better game, better company, and if you think GW models are better you can feel free to use them.

Oh, I certainly vote with my dollar, but the problem is that that is not enough. The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

Does sound like a good time to try some other games, I swapped out a few years ago.
there are a lot of games out that are cool and offer a lot of cool minis and interesting worlds to explore.

I have found that now people are more open to trying difernt things also that they have been pulled or pushed free from GW gaming.
More open to fluff and naritive style gaming also

To the OP-
I too have rejected the death of the Olde World. And I am not happy with GW at all for doing what they did to WHFB.
I used to be a WD subscribing rabid fanboy (fantasy battles anyway) but no more. I do not like the aesthetic or the price of their new stuff and will have none of it.
Over the last year or so I have played Mordheim, Frostgrave, and Bolt Action and it's been a lot of fun. Also doing some WHFRP.
I still have my lovingly painted armies and I may dig out 8th or 7th edition and have a game with my friends should they want to, but for now, for me, GW is over.

Get into other games by all means but don't sell on you existing stuff. You never know when you might want it again and the return on used gaming models is not great. You don't want to end up buying all over again.

^^ What he said.

Besides, in quite a few cases, your minis can be used with other game rulesets (just not all at the same time).

With the collapse of WHFB into AoS, my elves moved to mantica whilst 9th age settled in. Sure, some units aren't in KoW, but the rest are fine. The same army gets used in 9th age now, also.

My remaining 40k models work fine in Tomorrow's war, In the Emperor's name, and a few other rulesets (you can upscale most of the 15mm rulesets to handle 28mm easily enough).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

Thanks for the info guys I am going to go check out the other genres. I am more of a fan on fantasy over sifi. The age of big monsters, heroes leading armies no sifi guns. I was checking out hordes or was it warmachine the one with the mercs. The pigs and crocs.

Also I really like the look of I think it is malestrom, but after finding them on that website before they collapsed and only finding kickstart is a kick in the nuts.

The pigs and crocs are cool, they are hordes they are basicly the merc factions or that.
I do love my pigs and crocs.

Go Kings of War. A far more flexible game with much more tolerance for alternate models. You can feel free to build the army you like, from the models you like and even build it around the fluff that you like and the KoW rules are flexible that as long as you stay within a few very broad guidelines you'll have a completely legal army.

Like the Hordes figs? Great! Buy them and even if WM/Hordes doesn't do it for you you can still use them in KoW.

I like the WHFB(pre AOS) and 40k lore, but I've left those rulesets behind in favor of KoW and Warpath. Now I can build my Chaos Mauraders army and my Squats at my leisure, with no worries about how soon a couple of hundred dollars or so of rulebooks will be useless or a unit will be squatted.

Worst case scenario I have to buy one $35 rulebook every 4 years or so. It's alot better than being at the whims of GW.

AoS seems like it's going to get better. It was always going to take time for them to adjust to a newer model range and ruleset. But there is no point in selling the models and army you like.

If you're not enjoying it, why are you doing it?

Here's the thing. You're older. Things change, and views change when you get older. What appealed to 16 year old ogre makes thirty year old ogre wince, blush and run a mile. So it is with 40k and fantasy. The 'nostalgia effect' is huge with these games. I see these comments all the time as to how 'the fame was better years ago, the lore was better years ago when I got into it. Now it's just kids playing'. Yeah, well when you played and enjoyed that stuff you were a kid just like them. 40k and fantasy haven't changed. You've simply grown older in the meantime and you've suddenly woken up to the fact that what you wanted as a kid isn't wha you want now. If you read the stuff from years ago still thinking it'll be great, you'll probably be disappointed. I know I was. And there's actually ok. I don't go on complaining about how these games are aimed at kids - I just accept I am not the target audience, they're not for me and I move on.

Now you have two choices - if it's hobby burnout from hobby overexposure, take a break and do something else.cwalk away for a bit and get some fresh air. If it's the fame you have burned out on, but you still want to game, look into new/other games. Warmachine/hordes is releasing its third edition, infinity and malifaux are great, and bolt action is solid. And then there's loads more besides. Golden age of gaming. Jump right in.

I got hit with similar feelings when 4E D&D hit the shelves; AoS seems to parallel that in a lot of ways. D&D used to be my life. I switched over to Pathfinder for a while and picked up 5E, but as of late I haven't played RPG's now in over 6 months - I'm mostly playing X-Wing and have been dabbling in Bolt Action, 40K, Warmahordes and various boardgames - all things I had a scant interest in back in the day, but now with my time freed up, I've been giving various things a try.

As others have suggested, it sounds like you might want to break clean from GW and take a look at Kings of War and/or 9th age. Both have free rulesets you can use to see if they fit what you are looking for, and go with it if it suits your taste.

Even if neither fits your tastes at the moment, don't get discouraged and get rid of what you do have; more than likely the negative feelings will subside over time and there will be a point when you'll feel like picking it all up again and giving it a go with a few like-minded friends. Just because the rules aren't in print doesn't mean you still can't play the old games you like.

I would suggest taking a break from miniatures all together and indulge in a different hobby for a little while. If you don't have any other hobbies, this is a perfect time to start something! I suggest doing something that interests you, but is very different from miniatures. Perhaps explore hiking trails in your area, gardening, reading books on something you haven't been exposed to before in politics or philosophy, geocaching, bike riding, working out, carpentry, wood working, or study a language.

The options are endless and there's a lot out there you might be surprised to find you love! Sometimes a stagnation in a hobby can be a great thing because it opens doors you never would have considered before.

I can almost guarantee that in a short while, you'll be itching to pick up the paint brush or roll some dice too. Win win!

Only thing I could say is see what your friends are interested in. If you normally just play at your local game store take time and check out new games.
As with most areas, AoS killed many local games of warhammer fantasy and even if you like the game it is hard to be the only one pushing the game.

Sure it seems AoS is trying to make changes to bring back players, but as with most of us, the past years of crazy prices, destroying game systems
was the straw that broke the camels back. Most of my friends have moved on to other games. As have I.

You might even look into board game nights or the RPG nights at the local game store.. completely try something different. But if you love your
Ogre army .. I would suggest hold on to it.. because I seen to many times, years later regretting getting rid of your favorite army and trying to buy it back
and GW prices rarely go down.
