Hey mates, another Poll question for you all. Basically a huge debate erupted at my gaming store and this was the topic that happened to be at the center of the discussion. While a lot of Space Marine players prefer the White Scars for the Chapter Tactics and the new formations, there are quite a few DA players and then some others who feel that the Ravenwing are the better option due to their choice of Specialized Units. Anyways, just wanted to see what you all thought and please feel free to share the reasons why such as Army Lists,, Formations, Units, Fluff and Background, etc.

Ravenwing has the heinous rerollable jink save and access to Sammael, who is actually pretty beastly given that he has EW (which his LoW Chapter Master somehow doesn't have), an AP2 Sword, Plasma Cannon and Storm Bolter (all of which can fire at once if I remember).

However I am a little bias as I own a lot of Ravenwing bikes. Scars are not worse per se but the two use different tactics. Ravenwing also shines more with landspeeder support while Scars can do with just bikes.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

As a Ravenwing player I'm giving it to the White Scars. Cheaper, skilled rider, better support from the rest of the codex, objective secured, and the Hunter's eye.

Black Knights are the best bike unit, but for a whole army I think Scars are better.

I dislike both good cover + grav spam shenanigan bike builds with a passion. Any hint of my opponent playing these lists makes me want to dust off all the cheesy anti SM stuff I have in my collection. Not sure if I am the only one but this is my reaction to them.

I am personally leaning towards the White Scars as due to them being a Codex Chapter, they are more flexible then most and they have proven to be very efficient with there Chapter Tactics. Still heavily enticed by the Ravenwing though for the Black Knights. Those guys are just brutal for what they do and they can still field a solid Bike list backed up by good Landspeeder support.

I say Ravenwing, but I'm somewhat biased as that is what I actually run. White Scars are good too though. To me, the clincher for Ravenwing is that rerollable jink save. That is very clutch, although when going head-to-head White Scars can just say "nope" and use Hunter's Eye on them to turn it off.

Black Knights are perhaps the second best bike units in the game though, right behind Eldar Scatterlaser Jetbikes.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~15000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Adeptus Custodes: ~1900 | Imperial Knights: ~2000 | Sisters of Battle: ~3500 | Leagues of Votann: ~1200 | Tyranids: ~2600 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000

White Scars look cooler...and probably are cooler. Ravenwing can be had for relatively dirt cheap because of Dark Vengeance plastics. That's all I've got.

White Scars. Skilled Rider, Hit & Run and godly support for SM win the day for them

But Ravenwing is pretty good.

AI & BFG: / BMG: Mr. Freeze, Deathstroke / Battletech: SR, OWA / HGB: Caprice / Malifaux: Arcanists, Guild, Outcasts / MCP: Mutants / SAGA: Ordensstaat / SW Legion & X-Wing: CIS / WWX: Union

Ravenwing aren't BAD, White Scars are just better. White Scars have access to all the toys in the SM codex, and all of the SM formations. Their ability to do stuff like spam Grav better than RW is what sets them ahead. Grav Bike Command Squads have more utility than Black Knights.

I am in the process of making a White Scars biker army. From some play tests it's OK even without pumping it with cheese.

WS really shine with the MSU Gladius though.

In the end, it probably doesn't matter. You can play with both codices and choose the one you think is better.

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...
