I will be playing against a Necron army allied with Tau, and all I know so far is that he is bringing 3 hammerheads and I think a Tesseract and monolith, possibly two monoliths. There is a possibility for fliers. I also don't know the mission that we'll be playing yet until we get together for the battle.

Here is the list that I've put together to face his army.

Lion's Blade Strike Force

- Battle Demi-Company

- Company Master

- Ten-man Tactical Squad
-Missile Launcher

- Ten-man Tactical Squad
-Missile Launcher
-Flamer

- Ten-man Tactical Squad
-Missile Launcher
- Flamer

- Assault Squad w/ jump packs

- Devastator squad
- Lascannon
- Lascannon
- Missile L.
- Missile L.

- Ravenwing Attack Squadron
- Ravenwing bike squad
- Ravenwing land speeder w/ assault cannon

- x3 drop pods

(Now here is where I'm unsure of what to do. I can take the Int. Chap. with terminators in the formation, but then the other units that I have wouldn't be battle-forged.)

-Interrogator Chaplain in terminator armour, etc.

- Terminator squad w/ assault cannon.
- Terminator squad w/ Cyclone M.L.

- Predator
- TL Las
- Side las

- Vindicator

Devastator squad
- Multi Melta
- Multi Melta
- Multi Melta
- Missile launcher

That's 2000 points exactly.
The plan is to put the meltas in a drop pod with one of the tac squads in another to land behind either the tessaract/ monolith or the hammerheads (most likely the hammerheads) to cause some damage and hopefully distract some of his other units. The terminators will deepstrike next to any units that they can obliterate in one shooting phase and, if they are in the formation, can run either to nearby cover or towards the next target.

What are your thoughts? What tactics should I consider or am missing in this list? Should the terminators be in the formation to benefit from the command benefits or will I have to just take those not in the Lion's Blade as a CAD?

Thanks for your help!

I think you are miss making the list.

Lions blade strike force needs 2 demi companies.

I was able to squeeze 2 of them into a 2k point list best way to run it is lean and mean, you get 6 tac squads of 5 and give them free razor backs, run the 5 devastators with 2 heavy weapons each, and the assault squads with jump packs.

Stay away from missile launchers they kinda blow

To many unpainted models to count.

You need grav in your tac squads and dev squads. Seriously, they make all the difference. I use plasma cannons as counts-as grav cannons (really, who can tell the difference, they're giant cannon-looking guns).

The list says you need one core choice (the battle demi-company) and one auxiliary choice (which would be the Ravenwing attack squadron). Plus, I don't have that many marines to fill out the squads.

Right you only need one demi company for a Lion's Blade, though you won't gain free transports. Would you have enough models to run a full Battle Company if you used 5-man squads?

That Necron and Tau army sounds very rough. Make sure you play a fair objective mission not just Kill Points. But no matter the mission you'll have a very uphill climb. Try borrowing a friend's Imperial Knight to match his super heavy. Don't forget that every 3 HP you remove from Tesseract Vault is another Victory Point, and if you don't have a Lord of War you get +1 to Seize the Initiative.

You can't put two units in one transport (unless it's a super heavy or they're two Combat Squads of the same unit.)

Multi-meltas are not gonna work if they're snap shooting. Instead, Give each drop pod tactical squad a melta gun and combi melta.

Move Marines out of those tactical squads and into the devastator squads; they need the extra wounds more.

Like axis said, try running it as 2 demi companies with 5 man squads, at that point you then get free transports. Load up some drop pods with marines that have multi or melta guns and drop right on top of them.

Alright. So I realized that my friend isn't taking the tessaract, but the formation that includes the obelisk and two monoliths. One of the hammerheads also has the long strike thing plus another upgrade that brings it to bs 6.

I've taken your suggestions and is the list that I've come up with using two demi companies. (Although, I really don't have very many transports to use. I only have three drop pods and a rhino. My second rhino has been ripped apart to be used as a wrecked vehicle.)

Lion's Blade

Company Master with combi melta

Tac squad
- melta gun
- combi melta
- drop pod

Tac squad
- melta gun
- combi melta
- drop pod

Tac squad
- melta gun
- combi melta
- drop pod

Assault squad with jump packs

Devastator squad
- las
- grav cannon

Chaplain with combi melta

Tac squad
- multi melta

Tac squad
- heavy bolter

Tac squad
- missile launcher

Assault squad with jump packs

Devastator squad
- las
- missile launcher

Interrogator chaplain
- terminator armour, etc

Terminator squad
- Assault cannon

Terminator squad
- cyclone missile launcher

Librarian with combi melta

Vindicator

Predator
- TL las
- SS heavy bolters

So there it is. What are the chances of taking out the obelisk in one turn of shooting? I really don't want the monoliths deep striking without scatter next to that thing. Would it be better to land next to the hammerheads and shoot them? Also, can my characters join with the drop pod units?

Thanks much for your help. I'm really trying to learn this game well.

Dont take the following

CML
ML
HB in tac squads

Its pretty worthless today considering you can get HB for free.

Also the Predator and Vindicator seem outta place.

You can get a twin linked laz canon on one of your razerbacks for 20 points, put the devs in that squad and use them to pop tanks.

I personally love terminators, but unfortunately they are not that great, especially with out teleport homers.

Swap out the CML for a plasma canon
same with the ML unless you are using it for flakk

Again thats my opinion.

Also you need to take a chaplin for it to be a lions blade, the interrogator Chaplin does not count

Backespacehacker's advice is p good.

If he wants a close game and he wants you to learn how to play Battle Company, your friend should be generous enough to let you proxy transports. small boxes for rhinos, coke cans for drop pods, whatever you can find.

and again: moar grav
