Looks great. What is the best method to paint Berlin urban-style camo on the tanks? Seems like that would be... difficult. But damn cool.

Also saw these, which I am excited for:
Mechanics Workshop (BB209) (Late October)
Convenience Store (BB210) (Early November)
Automotive Garages (BB211) (Late November)

Looks good.

The one downside is that the US is lagging further behind in the list options race. They need to be brought up to spec with the other three nations.

Also, more WarPac would of course be good.

Really excited for this, think for many people having this 4th force available is going to swing them into playing the game (at least, here in the UK!)

I assume the next force is likely to be Warsaw Pact (as the Russian players will be getting a lot of games otherwise!)

Nationale Volksarmee is up early next year, which is where I will be buying in . Then there's the Group of Soviet Forces Germany, Warsaw Pact will get their share of the love.

These minis do look very cool, always good to see our boys ready to kick some on the table. Sadly have to many models that need building.
Maybe a new year project.

This could get me into Team Yankee but sadly I have no one to play :(

I am not sure on the rules but everyone I have talked to who served with chieftans say the 120m was 1 shot 1 kill weapon against Soviet armor....the rest of the tank was a mechanical gak pile but the gun was a good un. Is this represented at all?

I assume the armor rolls is the same in FoW so a T-72 with a front armor of 16 would need a 6+ to save?

Also do nations have access to Armored recovery vehicles?

They try to avoid the mechanical issues these days in rules because it's beyond the scope of a single game. Even in FoW WWII, unreliable vehicles just can't use their high speed moves without risk, and that's it.

It used to be pretty debilitating and annoying, and completely not worth the cost.

On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

There's a pretty cool article in the new Wargames Illustrated about the Brits and Iron Maiden.

Some interesting tit-bits - not sure if they are new info or repeats from elsewhere, but the article is well worth a read for anyone thinking of picking up the new force.

Quite a good review of the new book on this blog.

http://www.breakthroughassault.co.uk/2016/09/iron-maiden-team-yankee-army-book-review.html

Overall this is starting to look like quite a characterful release! And a nice trend of adding more depth in terms of the forces involved.

Yeah, the biggest problem with the two new books is that the US is looking positively bland in comparison with the other three nations.

The only issue as I see it is that they are running 3:1 for NATO vs. Warsaw Packs right now. We really need some more communist forces!

BTW, I just heard over on the Battlefront forum that the British starter box is going to include a soft cover mini-rulebook for TY.

Yes I read that as well. Nice little extra (although the main rulebook is only about a tenner so hopefully won't upset purchasers of the previous starter sets too much).

From what I have read the next release is likely to be Warsaw Pact (although wouldn't be surprised if some extra 'mission briefings' along the lines of Afghansty were released).

It is at the moment, although I think not too bad for essentially what is a very new game.

The speed of the releases seems positively meteoric compared to what I remember when FoW was new!

Can't speak about when FoW was new and still in V1. But during V2, you'd usually see all of the soft-cover books for a LW campaign cycle released over the course of a single year.

So I finally got mine last night - 6 days for a 2nd class parcel to travel 20 mile FFS Royal Mail!!!

Anyway I'll admit that Iron Maiden and Charlie's Chieftains is the first FoW products I've bought in 2-3 years as I was never that enamoured with the game preferring Battlegroup for my WW2 gaming.

I was finally tempted back at 15% off and a free Team Yankee rulebook and I wanted to have a look at BattleFronts plastics.

Re the Iron Maiden Book I an really impressed with this. I can't comment on the mechanics or the lists at present given my unfamiliarity of the ruleset but there is a nice range of units from the period included. As a 40 year old this is a real blast from the past from the many Army Days I attended as a kid; from back when they would let you clamber over real tanks and 8 year olds were encouraged to wave a SLR about and everyone would laugh as you struggled with it! Anyhoo its a really pretty book, better than any I have bought from BF over the years. I only had a brief read I had last night but I liked the reasoning for the setting and the descriptions were interesting in that very lightweight BF style. My only gripe is the lack of Challenger 1's but I guess this will be a second phase addition.

A good purchase I think if you like either the setting or FoW.

The Chieftain box I was really looking forward to. What's not to like; Lynx's, nice but put 8 anti-tank missiles on it and it's just plain sexy. But the core of the box was the Tanks. Now my most used toy a little 'un was a metal Matchbox Chieftain with a springloaded gun, so I'm well please with 5 albeit plastic new ones. My only disappointment with this box is that the sprues looked a little bit limp and cheap. By this I mean to me they felt more Airfix than PSC and less sold than the resin I am used to from BF; less so the tanks than the Lynx's. I think this is probably doing them a disservice as the proof will be in the building.

I have not opened up my two boxes of Charlie's Chieftains yet, so I can't comment on those models specifically. I play FOW too, though, so I can comment on BF plastics in general. As far as durability once assembled they seem to be pretty close to the old resin/metal miniatures. A little lighter, perhaps, but generally solid. Detail, on the other hand is IMO significantly better on the new plastics than the old resin/metal vehicles or metal figures. Hulls and other pieces are straight and true, tracks are nicely detailed, and surface detail is much crisper.

In a van down by the river

I built a Chieftain and an FV432 from my allotment. Both were fairly straightforward, went together well and look very nice. There's a couple of attachment points on the top hull of the Chieftain I'm not fond of; when clipped they leave a bit of clean-up under the lip of the stowage boxes. In comparison to some other kits I've assembled, a minor nit. I like the look of the models, though I haven't started in on the Lynx yet to comment there.

I've built all of the models now and am happy to report back that my initial unease at the robustness was mostly mistaken.

Lynx is lightweight (rotors, particularly the rear ones) but the inclusion of magnets with the kit (didn't realise before) means that the main rotor blades shouldn't take much/any damage in use. The stand is nice too and should make it look really smexy once painted.

The Chieftain is a superb model - I was definitely wrong here. Once it's together it's solid enough and the gun barrel looks like it will last a lifetime. I started a sample model and enjoyed it so much I got all 5 done right away. Very unlike me. I agree with the cleaning up of the rearmost sprue attachment on the upper hull; really tricky to get done neatly. I came to the conclusion that I would cover these with stowage/tarps/weathering in the end. The underside connections on the tracks are also annoying - why did they put it between the track links rather than on the flat pad on top of the track link?
