Icarus Miniatures Competition Post

Quick start rulebook unlocked, now a new Artbook social goal!

Afternoon all, Icarus Outrider Jim here with another broadcast from http://icarusminiatures.com. I've been a little silent on the hobby front - mainly painting when I can (blood rage wip http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/692991.page) and some infinity operation icestorm for a friend but my real joy has been seeing the progress made by Icarus Miniatures since last year. Anto, the main and only man, behind Icarus has been working hard to build his range and through the help of the community he has the starting range for 2 of the factions in the game.

I have seen the behind the scenes work and been partial to some brainstorming for further development and the future is definitely looking bright. I have held off posting anything about the kickstarter plans and my support till the painted miniatures were available, and they are now here!

There will be a post up on the Icarus Miniatures blog ( http://icarusminiatures.com/blog/) probably Friday with the details but for now enjoy the spoils of 1 years worth of development, some sample shots of both factions and 2 of my favourites so far. Also if you want to keep abreast of my attempts I shall be hoping to start some more painting and reviews in anticipation of the kickstarter - here are the links to the Dakka posts I hope to keep updated.

Pleased to see this going back on kickstarter, and I think he's in a much stronger position having the minis sculpted now. Hope it does well as I like the aesthetic and the rules read very well (although I haven't actually played it).

Do you know when the campaign's likely to be? I want to keep an eye out for it.

Was part of the last one so I was hoping we would see another one soon.

I think it should be a 2 week or so campaign ending at the end of September so that everyone should have been paid :p but I'll link up the announcement tomorrow hopefully.

Damn, looking really good. The proportions are really well done. It's strange to see proper proportions in miniature, after seeing compressed torsos for so long, seeing it correct almost makes them look elongated.

Afternoon all, well the news is out, Kickstarter starting 16th September. Have a read of the release news here http://icarusminiatures.com/icarus-miniatures-kickstarter-starting-16-september/

This go round they are looking to fund the release of the first 2 starter boxes. The stretch goals will be centred around adding a variety of extras to customise the starter sets. The aim is to establish these sets for retailers as well and provide a boost to the company in order to start the process of creating the new races as well.

Have a look here and check out the serious eye candy that is the painted minis album:

For those not inclined to Facebook here are some tasters.

Enjoy all.

Morning All! Hope you've managed some hobby time this weekend, unfortunately I have managed to only paint the outside of the house in my week's holiday :p So i thought I'd share a few images of why I like the direction Icarus are taking.

Firstly concept art, they are hiring quality artists to create high quality concept artwork. Not line drawings or rough sketches(though I've seen some truly great line art in my time)but fully realised and textured art - I'm an artwork nerd so this really appeals to me!

Second, they are faithfully recreating the artwork in miniature form, a few tweaks with posing for casting purposes and dynamism but otherwise very faithful.

Lastly, the casting. I haven't seen the outrider cast, and I still need to post my mini review of the Gunslinger, but so far the casts have been very easy to work with, sharp details and very minimal mold lines. I am more a painter than gamer so I've yet to see how well they stand up to gaming but so far they have proven to be robust enough for my heavy handed approach.

Real shame they decided to go with a 2 week duration Kickstarter, doesn't allow anyone to back if they don't have the money on hand right away as you can't even spread it over one pay packet depending on payday. Love the Nexus but no way I'll be able to back it this time.

That's why it's ending on the end of September, they were going with a whole month, but changed tack - either way it was always going to finish after pay day (providing people get paid at the end of the month that is ) hopefully enough backers will mean more retail release. You could always back for a small amount and change it up in the pledge manager?

Evening all, Icarus are getting ready to launch so I thought I would get my second small review done on their miniatures, this time the Gunslinger. http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/662777.page

This is one of their Kickstarter miniatures so I was keen to see the quality.

Enjoy your weekend

Evening all!

T minus 13 hours till launch. Here is the link to the preview page https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/icarusminiatures/2119543973?token=df3fa1b0

I'm just really glad to see some good human models, with realistic proportions and armour, plus the stretch goals are all extra miniatures or Add-on features such as weapon packs and there's even rumblings of possible alternative head packs!

Hoping to see some of those packs unlocked soon Till tomorrow.

Beautiful minis but sadly they seem to have stuck with the weird 2 week duration so I won't be backing this time. Best of luck with it, hope it funds so can get these retail.

Put down for a £1 pledge then, you can always up it in the pledge manager when your funds clear. If my maths is right it's a 20% discount off retail.

Evening/morning/afternoon all!

Kickstarter is coming along nicely - £150 shy of target after 1 1/2 days is not too shabby. Having had a little peak behind the scenes at Icarus it looks like those starter sets could both bulk up sooner than expected and some social stretch goals are coming as well. I updated the first post so people don't have to hunt for the link to the Kickstarter.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
All right folks, fully funded in 36 hours. New stretch goals revealed and some social goals.

150 backers gets quick start rules booklet in each starter so no need to keep referring to your phone - you can leave that for tunes instead

I'm hoping for the upgrades to be unlocked, I could really do with those Missile launcher upgrades.

Keep sharing the word!

Turns put they are hoping for the quick start rules to be a small booklet not just a single sheet, so should be a nice little free addition.

I have also seen some sneaky peeks at the 3D prints of the arm upgrades and they are looking great so would love to see them produced sooner rather than later so hopefully we can encourage more people to back!

They changed the next stretch goal so that both starters receive a fee miniature and that was following feedback from backers so they are very responsive to the community. Definitely pass on your comments here (I will pass them on if they don't see them) or over on the Kickstarter and we can all help shape this game.

NEXT GOALS

Just 15 backers left to go!

Quick update time, Icarus have posted up the variety of poses you can get from the basic Nexus starter and it's quite impressive!

Whilst I do favor the Alliance miniatures, there are some cool variations in there! That's not even including the upgrade packs when they get unlocked!

There's a gallery over on the Icarus Miniatures Facebook page with pictures of the actual resin miniatures in the various poses as well. https://www.facebook.com/IcarusMiniatures/photos/?tab=album&album_id=1352068171471779

Hopefully cracking the quick start rulebook soon and then onto free miniatures!

Be excellent!

It's Add-on Wednesday so they have released the above upgrade kits as optional Add-ons. Those Alliance heads are a must for me and due to the scale they should fit with my infinity miniatures as well!

They are also starting sculpting work for the Nexus head pack as well! More of those cool 4 eyed helmets please.

Those are only placeholders but it's got my attention. Coming into the last 48 hours so if you're on the fence then now is the time.

Have fun all!
