Hi, I'm looking for advises and opinions on my project. I just came back into the hobby and saw this new way of playing: Zone Mortalis. In a fever of modeling I started to build one for my eldar army.

It's an Iyanden themed army and their bases are all showing the struggle they faced against the tyranid. As you can see in the photos.

I'm almost done with the Zone Mortalis Frame. It's time for me to focus more on the details.

I'm still not sure on how I'm going to proceed. It's why I'm trying to crowdfund ideas here.

In my mind there's two way of proceeding:

1. I corrupt the terrain with a lot of tyranid eggs, spore etc... Like I know how.
It presents a lot of advantages. I know how to do it. Brings a lot of atmosphere and details with ease.
However for roleplaying/campaign purposes maybe not the best choice as it narrow the stories available on the board.

2. I don't corrupt it. However I'm not sure on how to proceed if I do so. Gems are a good way of bringing ligth and details and I would use some on the corrupted version too. But after that.... .

Most eldar Terrain that I saw did'nt have much contrast nor details. They used vegetation to compensate the lack of it. I could put some in the gap that I left between the walls and the platforms.
But If I do should I put some climbing plants? "real" Trees? Alien plants?

I'm also pondering the addition of a synapse system in some form to represent the "electric system". However I'm not sure on how to proceed. Maybe using the wire tree technique: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7GsYbalPDY

I could also cut some cardboard and add details on the ground.

So basically If you have any advice or idea for this project I would very much appreciate. Pictures of detailed eldar ,non laser cut, terrain would be appreciate

Tyranid base for an idea of what I can do.

That's looking lovely already – the layered card is a great idea, and I'm sure this is going to look lovely.

I'd suggest that you look at 'raised beds' – i.e. flowerbeds at about waist height for hte figures – at the edges. It'd be a good way to introduce more Eldar-style flowing curves and hint at the Pop-Culture Japanese garden feel that crops up in Eldar background.

Looking at images of Zen gardens or avenues of cherry blossoms in Eastern horticulture might throw up some good imagery and ideas. Certainly sand raked into patterns and mandalas would be a cool image; as would 'Moon windows'.

Thx. I'm building a tree to test out the design. I'm gonna "complete" a tile to see out it feel. Update incoming.

This looks A) great and B) original. Subscribed! I suggest that any tyranid bits be removable, as you say it limits the terrain's use. Climbing Ivy type stuff gives the impression of age. How about a clear "floor" through which you can see space/stars? I liked the idea of craft worlds having "domes", though I'm not sure ho to incorporate that at this scale. How about an unfinished wraith construct? Or indoor tents? Or a burial chamber? Or murals?

While making some trees I decided to try out something. What do you think?

Love the layered card look I've been thinking about some terrain to show off my exodites when they're painted and that strikes me as a kickass idea

Dooooooood that looks awesome.

my only critique is that the side panels meeting in a perfect 90% angle throws it for me a bit. only because i kinda see space elves as being too cool to be squares.

the card layering is really well done.

If you are looking to add more contrast you could always do water, gems, LED related things. or even some metal to differentiate structural architecture vs fancy elf decoration.
