I'm not sure if this should be posted here, and I'm not sure it fits anywhere else.

Many months ago, I started my Astra Militarum army after a conversation with two of my friends about how badass they were. Last weekend, one of my friends came clean that he felt he had forced my hand to purchase an army that he tends to borrow and play with far more than I did, even in casual games. More accurately, AM is the least played army in my collection.

After being introduced to Battlescribe, he spent a ridiculous amount of time building all sorts of army lists. He felt like he was addicted to the game and decided to withdraw from the game, leaving me with nobody to play with since everybody else with any interest is either out of town or pretty busy nowadays. He said I only bought the army because he praised it, and more recently I had bought a squad of Bulgryns because, again, he said they're awesome. In truth, I wanted to build something up, and I decided that I might as well get him something that allows him to give me a better, more exciting game.

I stopped asking him if he was interested in getting together for a full day of 40K and told him to let me know if he's ever interested in playing again. He agreed to that and said his guilt came from the fact that he feels he had somehow "pushed" me to buying an army I really wasn't interested in, and that he wanted to pay me back for it.

I'm not sure whether to sell him the army, say dinner's on him the next time we meet to play, or shut him down completely. I just don't like what's going on here.

Any advice?

Honestly, the most important thing is how happy you are with how your force looks. I hate fluffbunnies with a passion, but even I still wouldn't build an army that looks terrible on the table. So long as you know what you're getting into by using gak units and accept they aren't going to ever be good, who cares?

Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

Do you like your AM army? Even if you don't play it much did you enjoy building and painting it?

If so, you could explain to him that many people have armies they just have because they like the look of them but would never actually play a game with. You could also tell him that although they are mainly a 'display case army' that you enjoy the fact that they get some 'play time' via him having a game with you.

If you don't actually like them as an army or don't think they look cool, then you have got yourself into a real pickle. Sorry mate :/

I had plenty of fun collecting that army. Probably the most fun of all the armies I have. By model count, they are by far larger than any other army I've got.

There you go then, just say your AM is a display army that you have had lots of fun building and that you don't mind him borrowing them for a game or two (or more). Just as long as he doesn't scratch the paint work.

I know I wasn't forced to buy anything.

To make him feel better, I told him if he really wants to pay he can get dinner.

I would tell him it was a little insulting that he thought you were so weak minded that he could convince you to make a multi hundred dollar purchase that took lots of time to assemble and paint if you didn't really want to. Shut down the guilt by making him reexamine his thought process.
