I am not sure how many here still go to BOLS or if anyone has a means to communicate with them but ye have some real issues with their site. Initially it just kept crashing on both my iPad and PC. Then I Started getting intrusion alerts on my PC every time I would go to the main page. My IPad no longer works on the site due to "I won money since I am the millionth user with an IPad" and pages constantly reloading due to error. I have completely stopped going to the site because I can't get to it anymore. Can anyone communicate with their staff that they have some real problems with their website please?

I can't imagine they don't know. They have the most intrusive ads I've seen outside of sketchy torrents sites.

They have more script running in the background of that site than a porn site to start with (and it's in the hundreds of pages of script). It's not worth visiting without a popup and adblocker at the best of times.

Yeah, on mobile they have the most annoying popups, big things that cover half the page and you have to scroll to click the X, etc.

They were bad before, but now wow.

If you get Dakka's address wrong and type dakkadakka.net it redirects you to BoLS.

I often just disable javascript on my phone when I'm outside. It removes a lot of functionality, but it makes it so much faster, and stops all the annoying adverts that cover your screen, or that bounce the page around while you're trying to read. I find if I'm out, I usually just want to look something up quickly, and I don't need all that extra functionality that allows websites to be annoying. Unfortunately, dakka doesn't work without javascript, you just get a white page. If it weren't for dakka and spyfall I'd probably never turn it on again.

I can't use BoLS on my phone or tablet. The screen fills with ads that literally block everything. I wonder if that will ever change/ get better.

I know of no LOLZ why the website named BOLS should ever be clicked on.

Why would anyone want to visit that site anyway?
Even if they didn't spam their users to hell and back with adverts and popups. What does that site have to offer? I've never got why they have the traffic they do.

Sadly, clickbait works.

Also, a surprising amount of people seem to have the innate need of being fed crap on a constant basis. That's the only reason I can think of which would make someone to end up at BOL(lock)S on a constant basis.

Only went to BolS before I found out about Dakkadakka. Then I found out about Lady Atia's blog and after that just good ol' Reddit.

Not ever going back and will be better for it as the only site that'll cause me problems with ad swarms now is Photobucket.

(Edit: just for clarification, That's not a "better than" list but a "other awesome sources" list which are all leagues above BolS' nonsense. Don't want to offend anyone, sorry. )

Someone said if you said "ad blocker" in the comment section you get banned lol. Almost makes me want to make a username Ad Blocker.

Serious now, why would BoLS do this? After all I don't visit so much anymore because of this. I am sure they can't be like GW with lesser customers to make money. I thought they need more traffic, not less. What ever they are doing they sure don't want traffic, not at this rate. I use to like the site but not now because how it freezes my computer. I am afraid it will burn out my possessor or get viruses because I already got a few warnings because of being forced redirected. . Then again I don't know nothing about computers and not sure if I am just petrified for no reason at all.

I regard to a website that usually means they are running scripts from third party advertisement networks hat provide the ads, probably also javascript trackers or third party cookies. Originally the idea was so advertises had data about effectiveness of their ads but it all got a bit creepy with behavioural and location tracking for better ad targeting. Because most of this is automated malware can also slip in (stuff that exploits weaknesses in your browser do something bad).

On your side that usually means more data usage (bad for mobile users or anybody who's not on an "unlimited plan") and more CPU usage (all these scripts need to be executed) which can lead to a worse performance overall (maybe even crashes), more RAM usage, and so on. Also pop up ads, pop under ads, ads that take over your screen, and all that fun stuff.

So bols took a rumour I didn't even think was worth a new thread and made it into a headline. They really are a rubbish site.

I can forgive being like a rumor site, but I can't forgive the shill clickbait article headlines. Actually, their articles tend to fall under several categories:

1) Obvious clickbait "BREAKING NEWS" or "MUST SEE" stuff, usually posted by either Vela himself or "Adam Harry", with Vela's being worse because there's usually some "get your wallets ready!" kind of stupid talk too. I specifically remember one time for one of those lame phone games (I think the 40k-ized Plants vs. Zombies game) where the link was saying how cool/awesome/must buy it was, and all the comments were like no this is stupid. Or one, that actually got linked to the TumblrInAction reddit, that was from Vela talking about how it's a good thing Slaanesh is gone from AOS and how he/she/it should be removed from 40k too because Slaanesh is lame and doesn't appeal to the modern era.

2) "Everything is awesome, here's why" post by "Pimpcron" or Quasi-trolling article posted by "Black Blow Fly" who also proceeds to troll any comments that disagree with his views.

3) "Thoughts on X" that turns out to be a podcast link to Spikey Bits and/or Forge the Narrative (which I find hilarious as a name since they only talk about competitive stuff)

Yeah, I stopped going to BoLS due to all the ads and crap that kept popping up and taking over, whether on my PC or on my phone. It used to be a useful way to quickly see some of the newest news, since leaked pics and such would be there, easy to find on the front page (rather than having to hunt through the last five pages of a 20-page thread here on Dakka to find the pic everybody's talking about). Just too many ads now.

Just like GW. WE all complain about GW but never leave since we all have a soft spot for them, same thing for BoLS. It was my first or second place when I first started coming to the internet for my GW news and fellow members to talk to. I didn't know about Dakka at the time. I thought it was a website for Orks only. So just like how we will complain about GW and never leave, same for BoLS. A place where we started and spent a lot of time with, so can never let go.
