Genestealer Cult War band - Part I


Hi All,

So I thought I would bring the second half of the talent and interest to the blog with the converting up of a Genestealer Cults War band.

So I am creating a back story to this band of Genestealer Cults and will post that soon so stay tuned.

First up as the popularity with the new models it has been a bit of a mission to secure all the models I was after to create the war band. However this has allowed me to concentrate on one model at a time. Every War Band has a story and as with most 40k armies a tale of there deeds (heroic or sadistic) on a standard. I think the rules for the Standard on the Acolyte Iconward are a great buff so I decided to Convert up my own custom icon and I think it talks a bit about the back story. Ill let you be the judge.

The skull is that of there former Patriarch who was killed when their cult was discovered too early. Their cult was all but wiped out save for this war band.

Those who took out there cult have a special place on the standard as the survivors took numbers of their own. The Captains heads of the Blood Angels force that boarded their infected Void Station hang beside there former messiah.

Ok so after much fiddling and working here is the rough design of my aborant.

Still need some green stuff to cover the last khorne icon and to give him the aborant kilt.

The standard is great, but that Aberrant is awesome! The gorepriest is a great model and one I really want to convert; I've seen a few cultists and similar conversions but this is really original and my favourite creation yet!

I was going to post this tomorrow but I'll post it today now.

I present "Seeker" Leader of the Neophytes, a veteran among his kin. A combination of his superiors being slain by the blood angles and proven hunter on the field of war saw him rise to become the Primus' top Lieutenant.

The Seeker revels in tracking and hunting his quarrel over days and through the most heated parts of the battlefield with a predatory tenacity that could only be gifted from the distant Hive mind that birthed their slain messiah.

He as with the rest of his war band have amassed trophy's from many who have crossed their path wielding a Space Marine Scanner. As well as this he wields the power maul "Evangelist" and a shoulder mounted web pistol used to restrain the victims his Superiors have a more sinister fate in mind for.

When I do up a scenic base for him I will add a ripper or two to more enforce his hunter type image I am after.

So today I have been working on my magus and wanted to do something a little different.

In my war-bands background during their search for a new populous to infect they came into conflict with Eldar Corsair Pirates.
Posing as imperial merchants they allowed the pirates to board their freighter.
By the time the Void corsairs had realized who they really were up against, it was too late and they were deep within the vessel.
The Cults magus cast a psychic barrier to prevent them from alerting their ship. Slowly the Corsairs were hunted down and eviscerated.
The Void Corsairs Leader, a savage Female dream weaver, led a last ditch effort to find the powerful psyker and call for aid.
A brutal battle of the mind took place on the bridge of the freighter. Magus battled Dream Weaver in the psychic theater.
The Magus fell as he could not hold the shield as well as maintain a mind assault. The Dream Weavers personal guard fought hard against the war-band with each member fighting with matched speed to the cult.
Once the Dream Weaver had finished dissolving the Magus' mind, she turned to the rest of the cult and it seemed the battle would be over quickly.

However the infant Patriarch to be was filled with raw psychic power sent from the hive mind prematurely propelling its ascendancy. The infant Patriarch locked eyes with the Dream Weaver and a second mind war began.
Caught off guard, the Dream Weaver succumbed to the infants dominion, her mind now being pulled by the creatures psychic strings.

After the loss of their leader the command squad was slowly wiped out fighting bravely.

From that point on the Dream Weaver was the war-bands new Magus. Through many painful biological and psychic procedures, She was linked to the Hive mind a constant headache in her mind.

She is now both prisoner and Magus.

When it comes to battle, her mind is completely taken over by the Hive minds Psychic tendrils. Aboard the freighter she is herself but a prisoner. Slowly she is building a safe house in her mind were the hive mind cannot see her thoughts what will happen is yet to be known but she desires to be free.

I want to use a bare female head but its difficult to find the right one. I love the dark eldar ones but a lot of them have collars that mess with the fitting and cutting them off is messy.

Any ideas?

Just got back from a big five days with Atlas and pumped to get back into things with many exciting developments on the way!

As this is a post about my Genestealer Cult War-band lets introduce our next member of the gang “Harkon” the firepower of the outfit. Harkon carries the seismic cannon a favourite of mine as you will hear in the upcoming Genestealer Cults Codex Review.

Hope you like the model and yes that is blue tac as painting the inside will prove difficult if attached.

The big guy is done and I spent a lot of time thinking of a suitable but not predictable conversion for him. The Primus as with the rest of the War-band is a trophy taker and after waging battle leading up to their defeat one adversary stood out and proved most difficult to overcome. The Commissar was his toughest adversary and when it finally came to the stand off the battle was fierce both cold and calculating adversaries. Evidently the Primus came away best defeating his rival but not before loosing his clawed limb, the hidden nub of which remains a painful reminder. His bone sword is unique and forged from deadly xenos bone. He also wields a unique bolt pistol re-purposed to fire his virulent toxic darts.

After Adding a Metamorph champion the warband is complete!

Now its time to Paint them. Bare in mind I am no where near the painter Atlas is but its time i blew the dust off my brushes!

Very nice updates . The miniatures looks great. I hope that paintjob will be as good as conversions .
