Good Afternoon Dakka,

Having followed painting logs for as long as a I can remember and marveling at how quickly people are able to churn out models and images, I thought it was high time that I set up something similar to give me an incentive. Whether that's an incentive to get updates quicker for you guys, to improve my skills through criticism or to quit due to sheer volume of hate remains to be seen .

At the end of November I have a tournament held by a couple of friends that has as one of it's rules "All non-painted models will have preferred enemy applied for the entire of the opposing army". Now, because i've always been a hobbyist rather than a player, I have never in my life owned a complete army. Much preferring to jump from 1 model I liked the look of to another.

The time for change is nigh!

It is time, good friends of Dakka, to create an army from the very beginning. With the chance to start something fresh, with the added challenge of actually finishing what I start out to do.
The initial plan is a 1250pts army but this will grow to a 3000pt and beyond army in the future.

Army of Choice: Space Wolves
The reason i've chosen space wolves for the first army I shall ever be able to call a complete and legal army is pure and simply because I think they look awesome and always have done. The original Grey Hunters 10 man box was the first box I ever bought back in the 90s and although it never got painted, it still brings back fond memories.

So without further ado i'll get to some images. First i'll show some of the previous work i've done and then get onto my current progress with my wolves.

Albino Ork:

Necron Warrior:

Necron Scarab:

Necron Overlord:

Necron Command Barge (WIP):

Blood Angels Vindicator
This was a birthday present for a friend.

Nearly Finished:

WIP of Side with Freehand:

WIP Dozer Blade (No masking or spray. Full freehand lines):

WIP Gunner:

Space Wolves:

Stormwolf Pilot:
This was the model used for testing my paint scheme. As of now, the rest of the model is still completely unpainted.

Long Fang with Missile Launcher:
This model was the first on a base with the scheme. The left shoulder hasn't been attached yet with the cream (yes cream, not yellow) colour scheme. I'm also not happy with the smoke trail which will be improved.

Thunderwolf Cavalry with Thunderhammer and Stormshield:
Complete apart from still needing flock on the base.

Grey Hunters Pack:
Primed and ready to receive some paint

The same pack with the first load of base colours and minor highlights. My first attempt to set up a 'chaotic' production line for the first time in my life instead of painting 1 model at a time.

Progress is starting to be made with details.

Cool stuff. I really like the scheme you've used on the crons.

Gotta give props for the free handing the hazard stripes on the Vindi too!

Ok after failing to live up to my own expectations and ignoring this plog for too long after it's initial flamboyant start, i'll try again.
Progress is painfully slow as it always is with my projects and I really need to speed up otherwise i'm in serious danger of having nearly all my units having preferred enemy against them.

With only 1 month (4 weeks 5 days) to go till the tournament, I have the following to make/paint/finish:

10 x Grey Hunters with Drop Pod (GH nearly finished and DP first subsection made and base coated)
5 x Blood Claws with Drop Pod (BC made in subsections and undercoated. DP first subsection made)
5 x Wulfen with Drop Pod (WF made and put onto bases which need pva sealing before undercoat. DP still in box sealed)
1 x Landspeeder with Typhoon Missile Launchers (Made and base coated)
5 x Long Fangs (3 out 5 finished apart from bases need painting/flocking)
3 x Thunderwolf Cavalry (1 nearly finished but taken apart to repaint shoulder marking and TH)
1 x Wolf Lord on Thunderwolf (kitbash) (TW and Lord basecoated and washed)

Now before you all start shouting at me saying nearly 5 weeks is a huge amount of time, I'll just mention that i'm married, have a full time job that takes an hour to drive to/back from and a 8 month old son. Painting time is limited :(

However, i feel it's still possible so i'm going to revive the plog and I'll post some pictures of my nearly finished grey hunters unit up tonight when i'm home from work. I'll also try to take a picture of everything in it's current state of disarray so I can berate myself as to just how much i've got to do.

Anyway, for now i'll leave you with a couple of teaser shots of the recent reinforcements to the army (minus the scouts as they're only there for the eventual blackmane formation).

Criticism and praise are equally welcomed so I can try and improve as much as possible over the course of this journey, so please don't hesitate to join in any and all discussions.

Xeanee

Don't worry, nobody is going to tell you that you are too slow here.
There are a lot of parents, husbands etc..
I'm a student with a good amount of free time and haven't painted my minis for weeks, for example.

I really enjoy your Space Wolves, more than your previous work.
Looking forward to see your army full painted !

I wish I was back at Uni with the inordinate amount of free time that brought...especially when I was skipping lectures to play WoW :/

Next Up: Obligatory Pup shots.
Patiently waiting for me to finish painting so she can go for a walk

...and a completely different Pup!

Wulfen Pack Leader (WIP)

Anyone else noticed that the old Reikland Fleshshade gives everything a glossy sheen? Hopefully a lamian medium wash will fix the effect in this model though. *fingers crossed*

The GW washes can look glossy, I found that a good shake of the pot before using it should stop it, keep up the good work!

Appreciate the advice, but i've been painting on and off for nearly 20 years and always shake every pot well before use. Drilled into me by the teacher who ran our warhammer club back in school.
The old reikland shade seems to be the only one i've found to be this shiny. I've bought a new one today in the larger pot, as the one Duncan uses seems to be a lot more matte. Here's hoping.

About time that I revived my own painting log and shared some of my recent endeavours. Suffice to say that I did not meet the painting challenge that was set upon me at the end of the last year, and more than 1 unit was fielded unfinished during the tournament, and unfortunately remain unfinished to this day. Slacker I know!

However, even with the handicap of having preferred enemy against 50% of the army, the Wolves managed to secure a joint 1st result overall, beating a Grey Knight army through objectives and nearly tabling a tyranid invasion.

Anyway, on to my painting. As my Space Wolves Wulfen are significantly powerful and really fun to play, I figured it would be a test to myself to paint something a bit more complicated to paint, and a bit more complicated to play as a secondary army. So I present to you my Harlequin's! They are being played as a mono army with no allies, and so far have a W1:L1 result against Blood Angels.

Harlequin Player 1

Harlequin Player and WIP Troupe Master

Completed Troupe Master

While i say this one is finished, I have yet to do the gem on the belt and obviously the basing.

The idea behind my harlequins army is to have 6 Troupes each with 4 Players, a Troupe Master, a Shadowseer and a Star Weaver transport. Each troupe will have it's own unique colour: Green, Purple, Red, Blue, Orange and Pink, with yellow, black and cream being consistent throughout.

Fingers crossed it works out
