Thinking about starting AoS after Christmas so I've been kicking around a few army list ideas.

This will primarily be a painting project but it would be nice to be able to play without being slapped about so please tell me everything that's wrong (or right? ) with this 2k list:

Leader/Behemoth:
Freeguild General on Griffon (General)
Celestial Hurricanum with Celestial Wizard

Battleline:
20x Freeguild Guard w Spears
10x Freeguild Guard w Sword/Shield
10x Freeguild Guard x Halberds
10x Freeguild Handgunners
10x Freeguild Handgunners

Other:
6x Demigryph Knights

Behemoth:
Steam Tank

Artillery:
Volley Gun

While you sleep, they'll be waiting...

Have you thought about the Axis of Evil pension scheme?

I don't have the points at hand but you should drop at least a unit of demigryphs to get a cannon. Then drop the spearmen or whatever is necessary to get a gunmaster and re-roll failed to hit rolls with the cannon. Then you're gold, it's a decent list.

I have been playing with Freeguilds lists since AoS dropped, and generally I do get slapped about. Trying to make them competitive has been a big struggle for me but largely because I like making small units of weakling humans and in AoS small units of weaklings do NOTHING.

So from looking at your list, I think you'll find the Hurricanum quickly becomes your MVP. I love mine, and it has helped take out Star Drakes and all other sorts of nasties. I recommend you give it a Phoenix Stone to keep the wounds healing.

General on Griffin will also be very handy to have especially to contest objectives in enemy deployment.

You'll find your Steamtank to be a massive threat for the enemy but in reality not all that punchy. Have it near your Hurricanum because that +1 to the cannon shot is the most important factor in making sure the Steamtank has a good game.

So I would keep all of the above, and keep your Volley Gun, but I think you'll want to make changes to the rest if there is still time (i.e. they are not yet all painted).
Firstly those 10 strong units of models will be useless in battle. They'll stand around not killing things and then die when charged. I would put the handgunners into one unit (Freeguild's best battleline unit by far so if you have the heart to make more do so). And I would drop either the Swordsmen or the Halberds (to make the minimum 3).

Your Demigryphs will also do nothing. They have a minimal damage output, so their best role would be to capture objectives turn 1. For that you would only need 3, so drop the others. In fact, if you have any Archers they can do the same thing, score an objective on turn 1. If you have any archers (lovely models - the best infantry kit they have imo) I would drop the other 10 strong unit for them.

So that would save you 300 points, and with that I would include a Hellstorm Rocket Battery and another 10 handgunners.

I hope this gives you some food for thought :-)

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

Shouldn't the start of the list be that formation they have? I think Freeguilds needs that formation.

And doesn't all that infantry get boni for being 20 +? So.. take them in 30's or 20's at least?

I think your list is lack of elite units.
Horde of freeguild guards are waste of your points.
I recommend you to add more greatswords and elite units. And keep your battlelines in minimun number.

I really like to use hordes of weak humans against monsters. But that is seriously not effective.

Hordes of rank n file with buffs are nothing to sneeze at really. I'd go artillery before those elites.

The infantry freeguild will do great with 20+ units.
Ad to that a generic general to buff them with command ability and they are golden.
20 handgunners with the generals CA throw out 20 shots that hit/wound on 2+/2+ if they dont move. That makes it insane for your enemy to move up fast elite units.

Also, great swords are awesome in their simplicity, and just keep them fairly close to a hero for a 3+/3+ hit/wound (or a powerful 2+/2+ if they stand defensive with the generals CA, and thats 40 possible attacks in a unit of 20. hit wound on 2+2+ and -1 rend -I have not checked the maths, but it equals to death and destruction)

Cannons (and some other artillery) are really great, and with what I said above, the army can make a really competetive army based on defensive infantry supporting a gunline.

Edit: I dont agree with bottle about the demigryph. The riders dont do alot of damage, but the beasts generally put out some hurt on the enemy due to their special ability. With their speed and rich wounds/armour I would say they are more likely to be worth their points if they hunt down annoying "medium elite units".
