I'm new to AoS, and despite having years of 40k and WFB experience, I'm finding AoS to be a completely different beast altogether.

This is a 2000pt list I'm considering taking to an upcoming tournament, and having no idea what constitutes a competitive list in AoS, I'm looking for some feedback.

The list is as follows:

1 Bloodsecrator 120pts
1 Exalted Deathbringer with Skullgouger 80pts
1 Lord of Khorne on Juggernaut 140pts
1 Slaughterpriest 100pts
Skarbrand 400pts
1 Slaughterbrute 200pts
10 Blood Warriors 200pts
20 Blood Reavers 120pts
20 Blood Reavers 120pts
3 Mighty Skullcrushers 160pts
3 Mighty Skullcrushers 160pts
5 Wrathmongers 180 pts

Total 1980 pts

Any constructive feedback would be appreciated. Please be as brutal with your criticisms as you would like, as I literally have no idea how to make a competitive list in AoS.

You'll get tore apart by shooting heavy army (particularly any that also have fast movement since your army is slow and mostly on foot) and armies like stormcast that deal out shed-loads of mortal wounds.

Khorne bloodbound armies are not very competitive IMO. They are a lot of fun in non tournament environments but against the competitive lists they usually get dismantled piece by piece.

I'd look at how you will counter speed and how you will counter shooty-heavy lists.

I think it's not bad.. may have some problems getting shot but you should do ok playing to objectIves. Throw your fast moving units into stuff that shoots at you, big monsters will help balance you out. skarbrand looks like the most fun!

What would be the best way to mitogate some of the weakness to shooting?

Maybe a hell canon, if you can get one!
Else a second bloodsecrator would be nice to have one as backup! He does so much for Khorne armies!

The weakness to shooting would be that your opponent will be getting to remove your models for a few turns before you can even start rolling dice because he will have range and you will be walking.

Faster units helps.

Would a bloodstoker or 2 be a good idea to speed the army up? Or would those points be better spent on some cavalry like marauder horsemen or chaos knights?

one way to minimize shooting is to stay out of range. but that is only possible in some missions. as awesome as skarbrand is he's not fast.
I'd probably drop the blood warriors and slaughter brute. take 20 more reavers and then some quick stuff.

and ya keep your secrator protected and out of range at all times.

I find adding cavalry helps. Its not really the army I want, as I like infantry, but I typically run 20 reavers and a unit of 10 warriors and then the rest mounted in some way so that I can get across the table as fast as possible.

Russ Veal, who almost won warlords - but came 3rd after losing the final game to the overall winner took a list that was Bloodbound + 2 Warp Lightning Cannons and a Lord of Change.

So you could do that? add in 2 Warp Lightning Cannons, a Lord of Change and spend the rest on Bloudbound. I know Russ also uses double Bloodsecrator and lots of Blood Warriors.

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

I figured that two Bloodsecreators are a must have in such a list. Otherwise your infantry is too vulnerable. Space them our for maximum area coverage.

I think in this list with its heavy amount of reavers, you'd benefit from a chaos warshrine over a slaughter brute. The ward save makes you a tiny bit more survivable and the rerolls will help a lot. And if you want to stick with khorne and stay fluffy a unit of 3 skull cannons wouldn't hurt. Khorne would never ally with tzeentch lol

So after a couple of games, I've amended my list as follows

1 Bloodsecrator 120pts
1 Aspiring Deathbringer with Goreaxe and Skullhammer 80pts
1 Daemon Prince of Khorne 160pts
Skarbrand 400pts
1 Slaughterbrute 200pts
20 Blood Reavers 120pts
20 Blood Reavers 120pts
20 Blood Reavers 120pts
3 Mighty Skullcrushers 160pts
5 Chaos Knights 200pts
5 Chaos Knights 200 pts
10 Chaos Warhounds 80pts

The lack of speed was indeed an issue so I've added a few faster units such as the Warhounds, flying Daemon Prince and the Chaos Knights.

Bloodreavers and their ridiculous amount of attacks through buffing seemed to be much more effective than blood warriors so I removed the Blood warriors and doubled down on blood reavers.

I'm still on the fence with the Slaughterbrute. He's incredibly fun to use in the game but I agree with the feedback that a warshrine may serve the army better. I'll play a few more games and see how I go.

So what feedback would you give on this updated list?
