Tomorrow I'm having 2 of my wisdom teeth removed and so I've got a week off work!
I'm going to use this free time to try and get going on my deathwatch army, 2000 points pictured below:
This is the test mini, a black shield with robes, mk IV amour and double plasma pistols. I wonder where he came from ?
Here's the first mini for the army, the Razorback "Sword of Telio". I'm not entirely happy with the OSL (I've also remodified it after this photo but still not happy) and I'm thinking of painting over it completely and going back with the airbrush.
Next up on the paint table for Thursday (don't think I'll be fit for painting tomorrow) is a squad of 6 veterans to go inside the Razorback. The goal for this week is to get a 650 point army painted for a league at my local GW. Here's the list:
HQ: Librarian with bolter.
Troops: 5 Veterans with 3 stalkers and 2 heavy bolters with hellfire ammo.
Troops: 6 Veterans with 2 storm shields, 1 frag cannon and Razorback dedicated transport.
Fast Attack: 5 Bikers with 5 power axes.
Wish me luch for the teeth and I'll keep this updated in the week to come!

Both models look really good. I see what you mean with the OSL, looks too chalky. Apart from that though, they are very well executed with a nice bit of freehand too.
Hope you have a smooth experience at the dentists tomorrow. Try to think of all the models you'll get done

Lovely start, can't wait to see more. I have to ask though, is that really 2000pts? Looks awfully few in number, even by Deathwatch standards.

Thanks for the replies and the encouragement for the teeth guys! I'm hoping to get one squad of 6, one squad of 5 and the Librarian done this week, and hopefully the bikes as well. Anything else is a bonus.
I'm really happy with the freehand but yeah, I might have to rethink the OSL, especially as I have another razorback and a land raider to do and I'd like them to be all the same.
@ Valkyrie you're not the first person to ask that but I think it's because it's all packed in the box like that. There's actually 22 veterans, 2 transports, 5 vanguard, 5 bikes, a land raider, a ven. dread, a watch captain, a librarian, and an assassin. All kitted out that adds up!
@ TheEldanariPrince Basically Mephistion Red followed by a green glaze in the folds, then another coat of mephistion red to even out the transitions. Final highlight is blood red with a little bit of white in it. And thats it!
Righty-ho off to the hospital now!

Thanks evildrcheese!
Well, the teeth are out, my face is massive and the whole thing is really quite horrible, BUT I haven't been idle!
Between last night and today I've got 2 marines fiished and made a good start on another.
So, what does one do with a marine who is so zealous that even the Chaplains of the Black Templars feel a bit uneasy around him? Offer him the "glorious opportunity" of smiting the foes of mankind in the hallowed Deathwatch! Brother Caron is perfectly happy in his new role, as he is able to slay xenos scum all whilst reciting them scripture!
Here's the WIP of a Silver Skull:
An a shot of the as-yet unpainted members of the squad:
Enjoy, any c n c is welcome especially as this is the first time I've really been trying to do "shiny armour" highlights like this! And yes, I will be the first to say that the photos could be better!

The Librarian's sword looks great! Hopefully your teeth aren't hurting too much, I know teeth pains are some of the worst placs to have lingering pain.

Cheers WarbossDakka I'm glad you like it! It wasn't so much painful as just really uncomfortable afterwards but I'm pretty much almost back to normal now.

Looks great. Are you glazing your armor? Or is that just your painting skillz. Or both?

Lol yeah it's just my mad skillz!
But seriously, I'm painting in the hightlights with Dawnstone, then going over them more carefully with Administratum Grey.
Then I go over the edges of that several times with a blue, green and black glaze that I mixed up myself to blend it into the black armour (which is actually slightly blue to start with).
After that I highlight the points and the middle of the shiny bits with Blue Horror and it's done!
That said, I think the really tricky bit is trying to imagine where the light would fall and making that realistic. Not sure if I've mastered it yet but it's getting there!

Your blacks are fantastic and the cloak on totally not cypher is really good for what seems like quite an unusual and simple process

Thanks very much mate!
An idea I picked up on a little while ago that I've noticed a lot of really good painters use (I'm copying them not saying I am one) is to use the colour opposite on the colour wheel to shade. So green to shade red, purple to shade orange, etc. It can work really well!
