Hi guys, i'm wanting to start a small 200 point space marine kill team using the heralds of ruin rules, just so i can play against my brother.
I dont know anything about space marines so a decent list, maybe a terminator or two, would be really helpful, as i dont know where to start with heralds of ruin.

thanks in advance!

Now, i dont want you to take this the wrong way, so please done, but did you read the rules for space marines, and the rules for HoR. Because if you do, it will tell you pretty clearly what you can and cant take.

At that point it boils down to what do you think would be good to take?

My advice would be set the army limit to 200 points for models, and then up to the remaining points up to 250 for gear. So your total point cap is 250

It depends on what you want, do you want stealth? Melee? Fast attack? Shooty? If you read the rules they will tell you what can do that.

To many unpainted models to count.

I don't really know what the differences are between legitimate Kill Team and Herald of Ruins, but I am sure anything that can fit into regular KT can fit into HoR, so just know that is where I am coming from.
I have been toying around with Marines in KT lately as well. this is what I've come up with:

Vet Sgt on bike w/ Chainsword & pistol - Leader
Marine bike w/ Plasma gun - Weapon specialist: Master Craftsman
Marine bike w/ Plasma gun - Guerilla specialist: Preferred enemy

Sgt w/ Chainsword & pistol
Marine w/ Heavy Bolter - Indomitable specialist: Relentless
4 Marines

9 models total, 197pts.
The idea is to use the bikes as durable hammers that stay at range and only get close when they need to. Both Plasma bikes have a Specialist rule that limits Gets Hot! rolls. The Heavy Bolter marine deploys hidden and peaks out to lay down some heavy fire.
The other Marines fan out to get any objectives.

check out he kill team rules they are awesome, you can take a lot more stuff, like librarians, chaplins, mix and match models.

For example, i have a 400 point kill team that is 10 tach marines, a deathwing apothocary, a deathwing terminator with an assault cannon, and a librarian in terminator armor.

You can also run none standard armies, like you can play a rogue trader kill team, or my current one, and assassin kill team.

Nah, I just got the KT booklet and HoR doesn't seem official and thus is pretty much a collection of house rules. I play in multiple different areas with multiple different groups, so to avoid confusion, I always assume GW official rules.

Plus, I like the extreme limitations KT has. It's a breath of fresh air compared to the virtual free-for-all of normal 40K

Honestly its much better then Kill team, best way to do it is follow the rules in the book the HoR Rules are very well flushed out, and runs more like mordhime in 40k. A lot more narrative as well. I would advice giving it a go.

Thanks Galef! thats a pretty good list and something i might consider, but since i dont have any bikers in my old SM collection, heres a list for you to critique:

Sternguard vet sarge (24)
tactical marine x2 (28)
scouts x5 - missile launcher, x2 sniper(70)
Terminator x2 (70)
(194)
so that what i was thinking for heralds of ruin, that said i do kinda agree with galef saying he liked the tight restrictions, so i might do another list within the gw kill team rules
