I have only ever played a demo game of warmachine and at my local hobby shop there are mainly Khador, Cryx, Menoth, Circle, and Troll players.I have some questions for anyone experienced with LoE

1) I've heard that they have very weak defense but they are fast and strike hard. Is this the general playstyle?

2) I really like the warbeasts and I've heard that Legion is (one of) the best for running warbeast heavy armies. Is this accurate? (I don't care too much for most of the infantry)

3) Most players at my shop are warmachine players, is there a good balance between fighting hordes vs warmachine?

4) Most of the players at my store run semi-competitive to tournament tailor lists (which I like playing competitive) is Legion a reasonably good army to field and how difficult would a new player have playing them?

Thursday night is warmahordes at my shop and I'm going there to watch some games and learn about the rules more. I'm excited to get into this game

1. Yes. When it comes to this game buffing damage over defense is generally the way to go.
2. It is equally valid for most if not all of the armies. Your warlock or warcaster come with bonus points that in theory balance them against one another that must be filled with beasts or jacks. First you choose the faction that you like, then you build the list that you like.
3. Generally speaking, hordes is better for early game tactics, while war machine is more for endgame. Meaning, warlocks need their beasts to generate focus (and are less effective late game when you have lost some), while warcasters become more efficient as the number of jacks they have decreases (and other drains on their focus) as the game continues.
4. Get the max FA of succubi and other fury management tools and.use them every game.

Not all of that is completely true.

1) Legion tends to have low ARM on their heavies, but yes, they do hit pretty hard. As a playstyle, they focus on getting the alpha strike or pulling back key pieces after hitting the enemy.

2) Legion remains one of the more warbeast heavy factions.

3) This point is debatable. Mk3 gave warjacks a huge boost, but I think that the fury system is inherently stronger. The biggest issue now (in Legion especially) is that heavy warbeasts are expensive (points wise), and heavy warjacks can be dirt cheap.

4) Legion is competitive, and isn't a bad place to start. There are quite a few viable builds out there, and very few useless pieces.

To address my issues with carldoolys repsonse, the new spirit tap rule really makes a difference for strong warlocks late game. Even if you're down to 1 or 2 beasts, having spirit tap to fill up keeps your warlock relevant to later on. And succubi are an attachment, you only need 1, and not even that often. Shepherds and forsaken are still golden though, with forsaken being one of the best single points of fury removal.

sorry. meant the forsaken. while the walking nuke aspect has lessened somewhat, it is still an excellent fury management tool.
