I bought a couple of the SW start collecting boxes. Both came with the standard Space marine Captain sprue. Is this correct? The box clearly shows 11 different Space wolves specific legs and torsos but the box only comes with the 10 plus the standard captain. I cant find anything on google that answers this for me.

The box contains the sprues for 3 Thunderwolf Cavalry, 10 Space Wolves in Power Armor, and 1 Captain sprue. 3 rider legs and 11 (10 from SW sprue, 1 from captain) infantry legs.

GW doesn't build the contents of the box specifically for their box art, they just grab a bunch of models that are more or less right, meaning some times box pics will include too many of one piece, or even include pictures of pictures that aren't actually part of the box.

I think there is normally a disclaimer on the boxes that 'contents may vary'...

This is normal indeed. I have assembled my SW lord mixing the SM captain sprue and the grey hunters sprue. You can have a decent SW lord doing this.
