Now, as we all know, Genestealer Cults have the "Cult Ambush" Rule, that allows them to get quite close to your Terminator Squad (or Deathstar) and wipe them out With Demo Charges

Now, Inquisitor Coteaz has the "Ive Been Expecting You" Rule, where, if an Enemy unit arrives from Reserves (Which you have to do with Cult Ambush) within 12" of him (I.E Demo Charge/ Charging Range) he and his Unit may fire at the unit (there is no limit on how many times this can be done)

Most of the Genestealer Cults have 5+ saves, so Boltguns will rip them to shreds

Your Thoughts? Is Coteaz the Ultimate Counter to Genestealer Cults?

they can have really good cover and also don't forget that this 12" are measured from Coteaz himself - not the unit. So, if you're not bunched up, the gsc can still probably pull charges on the squad.

Also, you can't have Coteaz in every squad.

No, but you can put Coteaz in a Squad that any sane GSC player would want to destroy first thing (hence why they'd use a Cult Ambush with either a strong assault unit or Demolition Charges). And while fundamentally Bolters would be great against most GSC Koooaei's point about distance cover does stand.

I still think it's a neat little strategy that is worth considering, and Coteaz is also just great for most armies anyway so it's not like you wouldn't be bringing him otherwise. I like your idea, but I think it'll need some play-testing to see if it can be refined into something truly deadly.

3000pts Blood Angels (4th Company) - 2000pts Skitarii (Voss Prime) - 2500pts Imperial Knights (Unnamed House) - 1000pts Imperial Guard (Household Retainers)

2000pts Free Peoples (Edlynd Fusiliers) - 2000pts Kharadron Overlords (Barak Zilfin) - 500pts Ironweld Arsenal (Edlynd Ironwork Federation) - 1000pts Duardin (Grongrok Powderheads)

Wargaming's no fun when you have a plan!

I'm not really worried about Coteaz as a GSC player - Ambush more than 12" from him and his power becomes useless. If I need to hit him or box him in, I can drop some Summoned Neophytes in front of him or something.

The Tau's Early Warning Overrides are a lot more bothersome to me. They do essentially the same job, except they get full range on whatever weapon they're firing and can be paired with Smart Missile Systems which are AP5 Ignores Cover.

You don't actually come in from reserves if you roll high enough do you? its infiltrate at that point I believe and doesn't necessarily count as coming from reserves first turn at least, correct me if I'm wrong?

No they are coming from reserves regardless of which result they roll, it's actually a prerequisite for them to come from reserves to use the ability except on the first turn when you can use it with infiltrate.

And note Coteaz can use his ability an infinite number of times in one turn.

Safest bet is to come in out of 12" from Coteaz himself but as close as possible to his unit as has been previously mentioned it's measured from Coteaz himself not his unit.
