Looking to build a 750pt ~ 1,000pt army before Christmas and my eyes have been set on vanilla Marines! (Yay!)

But I have no idea which Chapter to follow!

My general theme was to build the army around shooty-Tactical Marines with mainly. Assault Squads.

I just love Jump Pack Marines! Just the normal chainsword + bolt pistol marine with jump pack model is so awesome!

I don't plan to stick the Tac Marines into Rhinos/Razorbacks. I just want them to stay back and shoot while my Assault Squads do the up-close-and-personal business.

https://www.games-workshop.com/en-AU/Space-Marine-Captain-Lord-Executioner <--- I even plan to have this as my HQ if possible.

Any Chapter suggestions?
I thought Crimson Fists would be a nice color scheme. Nothing too fancy.

Are there any Chapters which fits into my theme I had in mind?

By today I'm going to buy me a box of Assault Squads so any suggestions or tips would be great!

Raven guard are jumppack pros even have nifty formation. And FW rules/upgrades.
Fists are shooters and Kantor makes stern guard scoring.

On scanning Chapter Tactics and metadetachments the Raven Guard, White Scars, and Ultramarines interact with Assault Marines in some way, plus the Carcharodons, Minotaurs, and Fire Hawks out of the Badab War update.

Keep in mind you can make up whatever paint scheme you like for whatever Chapter Tactics rule you'd like. No reason you can't make up a Raven Guard successor that happens to be dark blue and red.

Create your own. It limits the amount of damage GW can do to you with each codex release.

I'll echo what others have said and suggest Raven Guard, painted up as a successor chapter of your own choosing. You can roll with the Raptors, which are one of the named Raven Guard successor chapters, or you can come up with your own.

Another Raven Guard successor chapter to consider is the Revilers:

Reviler's Wiki: http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Revilers

Either option lets you field them with the Raven Guard chapter tactics and get their benefits but also allows you to play them with alternative chapter tactics if you prefer to try them out.
All that said, you can of course choose to go with Raven Guard as well if you prefer that paint job.

In any event, I hope this was helpful and best of luck on building your force. Take it easy.

Definitely sounds like Raven Guard. If you wanted to go even more Melee I would suggest Carcharadons too, but that is FW.

Thanks for all the replies guys.

I actually want to follow a color scheme set by the codex so I guess I wont be creating my own any soon.

Someone suggested Flesh Tearers from the Shield of Baal Exterminatus supplement.

It allows for the Flesh Tearers Strike Force formation which is 1 HQ, 1 Troop and 1 Elite choice compulsory and then allows a whooping 5 more Fast Attack choices (with other more optional choices of course).

This fits my theme wouldn't it?
(Oh and just a question on supplement codices, can I use them in tournies as well (do they count as official rules/formations?) or are they just for fun?

If the rules are totally legal and will continue to be, I think I know how which Chapter to do!

It’s worth noting that the Flesh Tearers work off of the Blood Angels codex, and not the vanilla marine one. There are a number of subtle differences.

Just so you know the Flesh Tearers, will be using the Blood Angels Codex and not Vanilla.

Then if I get the BA codex, would I have to get the SM codex as well?

Hm... I guess I strayed off from my original post of sticking to vanilla marines but I think Flesh Tearers got really what I wanted (loads of Assault Squads!)

Disregarding the separate codex purchase, yay or nay to Flesh Tearers?

While both “Space Marines” and sharing a lot of units and gear, the BA and normal codex are separate, self contained, armies. So you would need one of the books, not both.

If you love jump packs, the BAs have a lot of options to use them. However, do take note that while JPs are iconic and cool, mechanically they are a little lackluster on the table. The Vanilla marine codex is stronger overall, and has more/better supporting units and formations. Not that BA are unplayable in a more casual environment, but will struggle with their current book in a more competitive setting.

If you like the rules, colors, and play style of Flesh Tearers, then go for it!

As a Blood Angels player, I would recommend Raven Guard if you want Assault Marines. I no longer use regular assault marines in my BA army. I prefer the elite jump units (Sanguinary Guard, DC). The Raven Guard's chapter tactic ability to use their jump packs in the movement and assault phases makes them better. And their Assault/Vanguard formation is better too.

That is not too say the Blood Angels don't have cool stuff. I love my Baal predators and Furiosos. It's just Death Company and Sanguinary Guard are a better investment than Assault Marines. So with that knowledge, if you still want in. Welcome.

BTW, the books you'll need:

Blood Angels: BA Codex and Angel's Blade

Raven Guard: SM Codex and Angels of Death

Space Wolf Skyclaws are beasts at CC with 4 attacks on the charge (assuming pistol + CCW), cheaper than assault marines because they are the equivalent of scouts (but with power armor), can take a hidden power weapon plus can give power weapons to the squad leader. They also have a detachment called the Firehowlers Greatpack that is all bikes or jump packs. Combine with Wulfen to make Skyclaws able to potentially pull off turn 1 charges and zooming around he battlefield with crazy speed (or turn into murder machines when locked in combat).

As for color schemes space wolves use that pale grey blue color but you can also use their 30k colors which is grey if you don't like that (or paint them however you want).

I agree with most of the comments thus far either raven guard or blood angels would be perfect for what your planning
