So, I'm a long-time Fantasy player who, like many, stopped paying attention the moment it morphed into Age of Sigmar. For the longest time, I've avoided AOS, but now, at a friend's instigation, I am now tempted to give it a whirl. I've put together the following 1000 point Lizardmen...er, Seraphon...list below.

Saurus Sunblood- 120
20 Saurus Warriors- celestite clubs, stardrake icon, wardrum, Alpha Talon- 200
5 Saurus Guard- 100
10 Skinks- meteoric javelins- 80
3 Kroxigor- 180
5 Chameleon Skinks- 120
2 Salamanders- 120
3 Skink Handlers- 40

Total: 960

Thoughts: this is a somewhat ad-hoc list, and I really don't know what I'm doing. I went for the Sunblood because he looks hella mean in combat and I like his Command ability; otherwise, as well, the Slann Starmaster just seems a bit pricey at this points level. I also went for a full unit of 20 Saurus to go for their Cohort ability. Everything else....was chose based on what I have and/or is fully painted.

What I'm wondering, though, is (1) whether or not a cheaper Oldblood would be a better buy; and (2) whether should trade the Saurus Guard for a Skink Priest with Ceremonial Trappings so I can have his magic defence and buffs?

You need some type of ranged shooting. Stegadon, basilidon or fast hitting like the rippers. You need a way to single out supporting characters like mages/vamps who will allow armies to keep summoning back killed models.

Lizzies play well defensively but I havent found a way to be agressive without a firebase support.

No madam, 40,000 is the year that this game is set in. Not how much it costs. Though you may have a point. - GW Fulchester
The Gatling Guns have flamethrowers on them because this is 40k - DOW III

Skinks can be very useful for that role. But I agree in that you should get rypperdactils/long range so you can snipe enemy leaders.

So out of curiosity, are Salamanders not good enough for that role? Also, yes, I figured that my Chameleons could try their hand at character sniping. I suppose I could also try trading something for Ripperdactyls.

Also, out of curiosity, how vital would you say mages are in the game, especially at this low points level?

I was thinking on the first unit at hand. Also, I think that they are the cheapest of the lot and they do a decent job at it.

Not really vital, IMO. Aside a few armies (tzeentch/silvaneth/High elves with teclis) magic doesn't play an extremely big role.
