So I recently made the step into Daemons. My FLGS is sponsoring a bunch of AoS events and I'm that guy that wants the best of both worlds. I picked up the Get Started box for Nurgle and a box of Plaguebearers. We're playing a 500 point game tomorrow and I was wondering: How do most people play Nurgle? Should I sit back and try and summon more units? (I have 10 Khorne Dogs and 10 Bloodletters). Should I roll biomancy and try and smash stuff? Do I deep strike anything?

Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

When it comes to Nurgle here are the main tactics:
1. Nurglings are amazing, get some. We infiltrate them into 4+ cover, preferably onto objectives, for a sweet 2+ cover.
2. Plague bearers in large numbers are great for taking down tanks with high armour values because of rust. They are slow though so think about deep striking them. Get a Herald with the feel no pain loci to make them a real annoyance.
3. Plague Drones are the main punch of a Nurgle army, these things are fast, tough and hard hitting. Jump from cover to cover for a constant 2+. Grab FnP for the same reason as above.
4. Daemon princes are my bread and butter with their access to all BRB powers, flying and 2+ jink.

Tactic wise you want to stick to cover like glue for a constant 2+/3+ cover save, use deep strike on your bearers so that they can actually get where they want. Also take a look at the hellforged artifacts from curse of the Wulfen for things like Grotti (-1T to nearby opponants) and the doomsday bell (-1LD across the board for devistating psychic shriek). Biomancy is pretty nice on GUO to make them impossible to kill as well as daemon princes, the FnP(4+) power is great on plague bearers to make them even more pains for your opponant. Nurgle is a bit meh but can be fun with the right powers.

There are other tactics but since you are only playing a small game this should be enough to get you started. Good luck and have fun.

P.S. if you are starting Daemons get Curse of the Wulfen.

Sounds good, thanks!

I like to use Heralds for summoning and Daemon Princes roll on Biomancy for smashy.

What about in small points setting? My next buy is going to be a D Prince, but for now should my Herald summon are act as a melee enhancer?

That should be generally good. Rolling solely on biomancy will also give you the primaris for a bit of ap2 shooting.

Lower points with less warp charges will make it harder to summon reliably.

Yes, at low point games summoning can be extremely strong but only if your list is tailered towards it, i.e. Tz Heralds with horror WC batteries.

With only being ML 2 aren't I only able to roll for 1 Bio power since I have to take Plague Discipline for being a Daemon of Nurgle? Sorry, I play KDK and Tau usually, LOL.

Daemons no longer have the restriction that marked CSM do, they aren't forced to roll on their god's discipline if you don't wish. However, they DO still have the restriction where you can't roll more than half on their god's discipline - unless you run the Incursion Detachment (as of the draft FAQ).
