my mephiston, I've got a finished pic, this was an earlier wip, I added cork for a rocky base and touched up the painting. I'll get one up once I get home.

Here is some pics of my 2x2 segment for my trenchwarfare board. It's set so that it is exactly six inches to assault into the trench, it is designed to allow no line of sight over twelve inches in the trench.

We decided at the store to do an apoc game, and since I had no super heavies at the time I decided to make one. I ran across this gi joe tank for five bucks in a pawn store, so I snatched it up, chopped it up, and added some plastic.

Not happy with the barrel, but it is the start, I have since decided to swap out the burlap and do the camo netting with some gause, and to drape over the side platings as well. Will hit some pics of this as well. I was going with Blood Angels for it, but now may convert it to be part of my Pre-Heresy force.

I already have a Stompa, painted and customized to match the rules for the basic version, currently painted to belong with the Blood Axe Klan. I have wanted a stompa to lead a dread mob all of which are currently painted in a Goff Klan color scheme. Well a Local player here was ditching his Orks and was selling a Stompa for $60, needless to say I jumped on it and made the transaction this last Friday to have it done by the clubs Apoc game that I thought was 3 weeks away. Turns out its not its this coming Sat. I was some what frustrated since i was attempting to have an entirely painted Ork Waagh for the Apoc game (4000pts per player for the club games) I technically have it but I wouldn't have my new Stompa which i had already decided was going to be a Klawstompa. In steps Rob, rob rare plays is a mediocre modeller but has an intense love of the game, he is always encouraging players to paint and model better, he has continually been amazed at the speed in which I paint and assemble models. He said "No way I just say you take 20 boys from sprue to painted in an army that won Best Appearance at the tourney last week, you got this". So Challenge accepted, to prove to myself that I can do it here I go and to keep some accountability I am going to post it here.

DAY 1
Day one was spent tearing off the bitz I didn't need, and replacing the horns and left arm of the Stomp. I also started on a chainsaw claw similar to the one that found in the Killa kans and Def Dread kits. Now that this is posted, time to get back to work. But now I have a tourney to go to in three weeks, i'm actually going to get stuck in and get 1500 points painted up, and hopefully keep going.
Starting with CSMs, mostly Nurgle (mainly the tanks to be honest), needing 4 Rhinos, 2 Vindicators, 1 Predator, 2 Lash Princes (one painted one bought), 8 Zerkers, 5 Chosen and 10 Plagues painted up. I then have a lot more I need to get done (Land Raider, 3 Dreads, lots of CSMs, Bikes, and some more stuff). And i'll also be starting my Nids soon as well, very stealer heavy at the moment!! And then I really want to get a diorama done, not 100% sure what yet, i've got a few ideas, i'll probably ask for advice on that in the near future.

So basically, although I suppose i'm alright at painting, I just never finish (or even start) anything, have never played with a fully painted army of my own, don't even think I have a full painted (by me) figure in my collection. So this will be a real challenge to keep myself motivated and get lots of stuff painted.
(i'll probably change all the above at some point, just wanted to get this started)

Will post some WIP pictures later this evening, here is one rhino that I kinda finished, but didn't really, so am going back to finish that now as well. Just to give you a taste of what I'm looking for with my Nurgle tanks:

The above two images, my first (well second, first posted image is the first rhino I did) rhino, from either side. Obviously need to add hatches. First image has come out very badly, using my phone camera, which is supposed to be good, but doesn't have macro setting. They are brown Plagues, drybrushed with rotting flesh, and also have the pipes tin blitz like the green plagues, not very easy to see though, even in person. Done black eyes on both colour plague marines, not sure if thats the best option though... I think the green ones are going to look fairly decent when they are done.

First off, been playing for 40K for a few years now, and, my daughter has watched me build and paint nearly 4,200 points of IG during that time. She has spent plenty of time at local stores watching me play. After all that, she says she wants to play, build, paint, and enjoy this game. She is ten. She has been playing games with my wife and I for a while now, everything from "bakers dozen", "ticket to ride", and many many more. "Small world" being her favorite. She decided to play Orks, oh, the heresy in that (me playing IG). Anyway, at least you can get orks on the cheap. Did some trading, and got a good start with more on the way. So, here are some pics. Some I have painted, some she has. She will now do all the boyz, seeing as how they are a never ending stream of bodies.

This is my project log for all my various creations. For almost 2 years now I have been exclusively focused on skirmish gaming, and more specifically Necromunda. While I may return to some Necromunda, or =I=munda modelling (and possibly even some Blood Bowl - or a crazy 40k version of Blood Bowl I've been contemplating) for the time being I am returning to 40k, which I have decided to dive back into with 6th Edition on the horizon.

It's a somewhat odd feeling to starting fresh after having sold all my previous armies years ago after a break from the hobby. I considered quite a few armies including Dark Eldar, Orks and Chaos Daemons but decided I needed to rebuild my old legion, the Death Guard. They are my all time favorite army in 40k and the temptation was just too great not to rebuild my old army. So this log will very much be a Death Guard 3.0 log, as it is my 3rd time to build a unique Death Guard army. What will be different from my previous armies is that I have set a list that I will build and not have much deviation from that. In the past I just built what I wanted without too much concern about building towards a certain list.

This serves two purposes for me, the first being that my friend and I are both rebuilding armies from scratch, so we've set a 1,500 point limit as a goal and the deadline is to have a fully painted 1,500 point army ready for play by the launch of 6th Edition this summer. Second, is that I'm also expecting a new Chaos codex some time in the next year, and I want to stick to a core army that shouldn't precipitate any big changes to my army when a new codex is released.


My army wil consist of the following:

Daemon Prince

Sorcerer

Greater Daemon

x2 Plague marine squads w/ rhino transports

x3 squads of lesser daemons

x4 Obliterators

and several Chaos Spawn. Yes, Spawn, I don't care if they are the worst unit in the game, I like them! :soapbox:

I also have a roughed up vindicator they may be requisitioned into service if points allow. Blight drones may be added after the first 1,500 points are completed, we will see.

The one hard and fast rule for this army is that it will consist entirely of plastic and resin. No metal models at all. Other than that my main goals are to step up my painting skills and try some new techniques. Oh, and finally make some plastic plaguebearers than I'm happy with. That's been a ongoing problem for me with my previous amries, and I plan to get it right this time!

And here is an Ultraforge greater daemon I managed to snag on eBay the other week from an absolute steal. It is missing is horns and the mouth had a greenstuff tongue that appears to have been glued in the mouth. The stripping on the paint was a bit tough due to all the folds and other detail, so it's definitely going to need some more work, but I'm just happy to find one of these since they are no longer available for purchase.

It's time now to start again, reboot and do it properly. I intend to model and paint an army I can be proud of and that leaves nothing unfinished. It's going to take some time!

My first priority is to get 875 pts of marines finished in time for the tournament in June/July. My end of the bargain is as follows;

I'll start at the beginning, I found a load of Night Goblins at a car boot sale a while ago and have been searching through people's bitz boxes for a while and made a couple of choice purchases from ebay. So this is an army on the cheap!!


First up is the haul, 120 Night Goblins and 6 Snotling Bases from Car Boot Sale for the princely sum of £40!

I've been trawling around on the forum (or should that be trolling? Probably...) for a while now and have put up a few things here and there. I'm in the process of starting a Space Wolves army, having some Grey Hunters I've been painting on and off for the past year or so and a Razorback in the cupboard which is in the process of having custom made Assault Cannons (read, PITA cannons) fitted using brass rod...

So, I reckon having a blog of sorts will give me the impetus and the general kick up the backside to see my paint more! I have some Long Fangs and Wolf Guard which need assembly and a Wolf Lord in the sketching phases.

My Great Company will be that of Bran Redmaw, the reason being that I love Grey Hunters (they're cool and their fluff reminds me of chasing the weaker kids through the forests back up in Scotland...).

On to business, I've played GW games on and off for 6 years (haven't really played since HS) but I am picking it back up. I am working on my 2K imperial guard list and I'll warn everyone, it's not for casual play. But just because I am making a tryhard list doesn't mean I'm going to have a boring army! I am working on trying to convert every model in my army in some way. I have a heavy special forces theme, lots of suppressers, camo, etc.

I also am making the 22 Nob Biker list for fun. I will best posting pretty regularly until I finish my IG (could take a while). Getting a new camera, but for now you must live with my iPod's camera! Sorry. T_T

I started building this army by getting lots of cheapo boxes of 1:72 Zvezda kits and creating a basic army to play games with. I also got a box of the beautiful Perry miniatures WoTR (War the ROSES, not Ring) which are pretty much the right era (as they started 2 years after the 116 years of conflict of the HYW, say what you like about the Medieval English but they liked a scrap or two).

I have finally started to paint these guys and wanted to start a blog to see what people think..

I already have an IG Blog, (clink in sig) which you may or may not have strayed across, I will return to it at some point..

I wanted this army to be painted to nice standard and less speed painted than the IG, more like my Marines (which I will do a BLOG for, probably nearer the release of 6th/new SM Codex).

For £15 (now £18) I got 20 Billmen (halbardiers) and 20 Archers, the quality is excellent too. I assembled them as 17 Bills with a Hero in Full Plate, an ASB above and 20 Longbowmen, the English superweapon (and one spare full plate guy).

I wanted the troops to be in retinues, and looked about for nice colour schemes/heraldry, I ended up taking inspiration from Medieval Total War II! with its red/yellow colour scheme. So my first minor lord got these colours..

So I took a quick break from painting my CSM to make one of my old Russes look more Chaotic. Please excuse the horrible picture quality and don't mind the left over paint from my "stripping". I'm not sure what to do with the front part where the hull mounted weapons go, suggestions?

Also, everything is straight. Some of it looks crooked from the angle.

just my short story before getting to the picture. I'm starting this Blog in hope of improving my self. I started playing and painting about mid september, but have been enjoying the fluff for a lot longer.
My two favorit chapter were the crimson fist and the sons of guiliman, I went with the Fist simply becaue they were an easier color scheme for a beginner.

For my army I am prioritising praticality over estectic, but I am still want them to look good, so critizise away, point me towards tutorials and ect...alright enough blabing, picture time.

Infinimunda!? I hear you lament. Well, again, i haven't lost the plot. My interest in Infinity and particularly it's models has driven me to use Infinity models for my Necromunda gang. I'm using Nomads and few Yu Jing for the time being as they fit the look i'm going for.

I've been interested in the narrative aspect of Necromunda for a while so i've decided to build my own gang. If i have a skirmish game and something particularly interesting happens to one of my characters then i may well make a new model for them to represent the event. I'll build a campaign eventually if i can find some folks to play with, if that happens i'll buy a backlog of models and possibly make alterations to a character after each game. Anyway, for now there is ten members and this is the list:

_ slowly integrates himself with the Tau and begins recruiting individuals to work in all parts of his fleet and armed forces. To ensure their is no animosity between species he commands there be at least two Tau recruits in each unit that are sent to the Underhives.
His interest in Tau technology eventually leads him to upgrade most of his Imperial Sanctioned tech.

The individuals sent to the Underhive receive, arguably, the best training in the galaxy although they don't all come out alive, if at all. They go in as individuals but those that come out come out as a unit with a bond that cannot be broken. Not only do they have to contend with and purge unruly gangs and outlaws but their Tau companions put the entire unit in the firing line of any other policing force they encounter. If they make it out they are prepared for anything. To add to their problems, they are only issued with Imperial weaponry and low level Tau tech, this includes a flight suit which [u]doubles[/u] as armour. This isn't due to a lack of Tau resources or the risk of losing expensive weaponry but simply that it would make it far too easy for them. Each unit is expected to complete a few random objectives, often delivered to them while they are already in the Hives, and most importantly they have to try and survive until they have served their full time. Anyone who manages to exit early will be turned away on return to the fleet or, often, simply killed for disobedience.[/quote]

As you can see , the army will be heavily converted.
Instead of autocannon HWT's i will use german WWII Flak37 from TRUMPETER.
I believe that sentinel drivers will fit in the seat.
They will be converted to Dkok as you can imagine.

Instead of Heavy mortars i'll use german WWII 10.5mm Howitzers.
Instead of earthshakers i'll have german WWII 21cm heavy artillery (From trumpeter again).

Well ... this is the idea.
I estimate at least a year until completion and around 500 Euros (or more :guardsman: )

I'd like to introduce myself, since no one really knows me in these parts beyond my few posts here and there. I am Molotovsoda, graphic designer and web designer extraordinaire. I have quite a few 40k related projects but I'd love to post some of my random musings! so let me show you whats on my current chopping block!

- Penal legion kill team with a converted chimera (WIP)
- Big :bleep: dragon head made out of paper mache (close to finished but I have the WIP pictures)

- Cities of death (WIP) consisting of 1ft x 1ft tiles and 6inch wide roads that are 1 foot long.

After watching quite a few videos and reading many threads on this forum among others, there seemed to be some patterns of tecniques to produce some great results. I wanted to improve my painting further and realized that it would come with time but only if I was using the correct tools. I was hesitant to spend more on an airbrush but I was hitting a wall with brush-work. As the saying goes, when you cant get out, go deeper so I finally caved in and bought an airbrush. I know that there are lots of people out there that are in the stages as myself so I thought I would post my experiences from a complete noob perspective. I get a bit wordy but I hope it will help someone.

Like any other hobby or interest, there are 1001 opinions of how to do a single task or about which product is bettter and why. Of course, many of these contradict and seem devoid of any logic. I purchased a new flat screen TV last year and by the time I was done readign about it and listening to others, I was ready to go beserk. The same can be said of airbrushes, compressors, and perhaps paint. I opted for an Iwata Eclipse HP-CS airbrush as nobody had anything bad to say, parts were easily available, and this particular model has a .35 mm tip which is better (apprarently) for smaller detail work/lines. Its also dual action meaning the air and paint are controlled with push down and pull back motion enabling better control of what is going where.

I ordered my airbrush as a kit from TCP Global off of ebay but they also have a website. Strangely enough, the price on ebay was cheaper than the same kit on their own site. I live in Canada where the price of everthing seems to increase magically as soon as you cross the border. Fortunately, I live beside this border and I often ship my packages to a US address of companies who offer this service. The price is about $4 per item and the savings on shipping far outweigh the rubber-glove treatment one expects at the border.

So I order the airbrush along with a generic TCP Global compressor, the TC20T which has some of the recommended features such as tank (helps lengthen the life of the compressor), moisture trap, auto shut-off, and a 2 year warranty. Some people say this compressor is crappy yet others really like it. Consider the price and value with the features included and a 2 year warranty, its not bad. I also order a brush cleaning pot, some paint, stir sticks, etc as part of the kit. The box arrives and I go pick it up, bring it home, and start going through it. Its well packed but there is a problem.....they sent everything but the airbrush itself. The box shows no signs of tampering and even the packing list include shows the brush picked at the warehouse and packed. I immediately phone (long distance) and state my case, expecting a fight. The rep agrees to send the brush without a hassle. Although there is no compensation for my time or an apology, I consider myself lucky that they believe me. A new brush is sent and I finally have it in hand.

Now that I have everything, I had to find a place to work. I usually set up shop in front of the computer but Im concerned about ventilation, overspray, and the ever-present deadline of the wife arriving home and complaining about a mess and/or access to the computer. We live in a condo so there are no other spare rooms for the hobby so I go to the one place where a man still has some privacy to decode Ovaltine messages etc, the spare bathroom.

It actually works quite well. There is good lighting, a ventilation fan, and it all vanishes from sight with a pull of the shower curtain.

Its my first time even holding an airbrush and Im surprised that its a bit heavier than I expected. The build quality is very nice and the trigger mechanism is very smooth with a long pull for paint shooting and a short press for air. I have quite a bit of exerience with pressurized air as I have played paintball (another money sucking hobby) for over 20 years so the learning curve while working with a compressor is not as steep. The instructions that came with the compressor are terrible and are printed in a tiny font. There is no indication of what the output pressure is set at or even how to set it in the booklet. Thankfully the dial of the regulator has some arrows on it so I figure it out eventually. The output was at full pressure, appx 60 psi which is not suitable for what Im doing. I recommend that if you buy a compressor, dial the regulator all the way to zero before you turn it on and learn how to adjust it from there. Overall, I find the compressor shuts off as designed, the regulator can dial the pressure down to about 5 psi, and its fairly quiet. I would compare it to an aqaurium pump but just a bit louder. The tank and auto shut off are nice as its not constantly running and apparenlty will lengthen its lifespan.

Rather than jump right in shooting paint at the expensive grey plastic, I choose to practice first on some plastic food containers that have been washed and primed with some Armory brand grey primer from a can. To save time, I tend to prime stuff wel in advance so there is some other items in the background. The plactic box seems like a good substitute for a rhino with the edges and some recesses.

Im a big fan of the work that the artist on buypainted.com does and he has a technique that I have seen others use as well. Pre-shading the model before the base color seems to be the way to go vs trying to shade afterwards. The blending looks a bit smoother. Originally, I was going to thin down my GW and Reaper paint to help with costs but opted against it in the long run. I bought 5 or 6 Vallejo model air in the desired colors but I thought I would practice with the Createx brand stuff that came with my kit. I used opaque (non-see through) black on the recesses and white on the edges. I found the airbrush very very easy to control for air flow and paint placement but as they mention in their videos, accuracy is not that important. I was shooting at about 15psi from appx 2 - inches away. Another thing I noticed was that it is better to set your pressure when air is flowing through the brush as it will drop appx 5 psi when you first push down the air flow lever. Setting it while air is flowing is a more accurate way of knowing your output pressure.


I was surprised at how quickly the paint dried and how smooth it was so I squirted some regular Windex into the cup and sprayed out the last of the white and black and tossed in some of the transparent blue that came with the kit. I upped the pressure to about 20-25 psi and increased the distance to about 6-7 inches moving back and forth more quickly for a fine coat. The pre-shade worked as I had seen before showing through. Then hit only the top flat area with 1:1 mix of white and blue. The pressure and distance, along with back and forth application seemed to be a good match as base coat was perfect as I had no spidering, pools of running paint, or orange peel roughness.

Considering I have never even held an airbrush, the overall result was far superior to what I could hope to achieve with a brush with my current skill level. With an elapsed time of appx 15 minutes, it was by far quicker as well.

I will continue to practice and will update as I have time but so far so good. Next time, I will wear some sort of glove and I expect future obstacles will be how different brands of paint perform under the same pressures etc.

This past weekend I had some time so I wanted to actually try putting paint on a model. I started out on a razorback and my intention was to only put down some pre-shading of black in the recesses and white on the edges but the speed of how quick this thing works is amazing. One thing led to another and I ended up doing quite a bit of highlighting.

Im still using the Createx paint that came with my kit and some Vallejo Sombre Grey and Wolf grey game color paint. Ive been thinning the Vallejo using straight Windex and I have not had any issues with clogging yet. Ive learned a bit more about which pressure does what for the compressor as well. Most of the time, Im running at about 20psi but on some spots, I dialed it down to 10 psi which seems effective for getting in very close for small areas.

Ive got a long way to go on the razorback including fine detail on the gun, crew, some interior, decals etc but Ive achieved the look I want on the hull. Still debating about doing any weathering or battle damage as it seems like a crime to mar the smooth finish.

As promised, here is my humble first attempt at painting... (well, I did paint some horses in multi-colours, but I don't think they count :P)

The idea behind the cloaks will hopefully become apparent when I upload more photos- for anyone who has read the 'Song of Ice and Fire' books, the idea is loosely based around Renly's Rainbow Guard. I aim for each elf to have a different colour cloak.

The contemptor had already been built and part painted by the client but he wasn't happy with the way it came out so it will be completely repainted.

The idea, to make a Necron army in the theme of Terminator, all shiny chrome and stuff! I wanted to bang this one out fairly quickly so the majority of the work will be done with an airbrush using the amazing Alclad 2 paints. GW have released some really cool new models for the Necrons so I have been tempted to scratch that itch I had ages ago. I had already bought loads of the models so got quite a bit to be getting on with including 3 monoliths! I haven't decided yet whether to do their eyes green and keep all the green theme going or to make their eyes red and go with the full terminator theme. Please vote for how you would like to see them come out by posting!

So made a start with a test model which I posted on my Emperors wings blog and reposted here so you can see what I'm up to!

nobz mob lurk behind the boyz mobs for protection and then pounce!

Now I'm not completely set on this list until I have my bus ready, I will even sacrifice an existing chim. for the weapons or take one from my other heavy weapons team.
