Hi all!

For all of you that don't know me already. My name is Steve Smith and iv been wargaming on and off for longer than i can remember. 25th Anniversary 40k Dual Kit Boxes

Hadn't seen this anywhere else on Dakka, so apologies if it's already been said elsewhere.

GW are releasing some special new 40k boxes for various armies to coincide with the 25th birthday celebrations starting on the 25th of this month.

I know for definate there will be the following;

10 x Tactical Marines & a Drop Pod
10 x Chaos Marines & a Chaos Rhino
11 (or 12) Ork Boyz & a Trukk

I think there may be others such as Kabalite Warriors and a Raider but can't be certain on anything other than the ones listed above.

I'm pretty sure I saw that these dual kits were going to be Direct Only but that might just be me misunderstanding it. Think they would be missing a trick not sticking a few of these boxes in all stores to reach the maximum amount of customers.

Also pencilled in as part of the celebrations are releases for Space Wolves, Tyranids and Imperial Guard. Can't say for sure what these will be, but these are the armies listed as getting some new model goodness.

[i]Dune Raider units are equipped with rugged quad bikes that are usually fitted with heavily modified versions of standard infantry weapons. These legionaries are generally employed for scouting out enemy positions, harrying isolated pockets of enemy resistance and providing support to the slower foot based elements of the army. These fast attack elements of the Junker Legions also have a well-deserved reputation for depravity, and mobile strike forces are often detailed off to pillage and despoil regions deep within enemy territory.

As is the norm in the Legions, Dune Raider Decurions have gained their rank through merit and many hard fought battles. They invariably lead from the front and will always be found in the thick of the fighting, or hunting out the richest loot.[/i]

Hi all

Anyone who's been following our progress log will have seen these already, our new [url=http://www.warmill.co.uk/-Portable_Utility_Pods/cat814919_1121501.aspx] Portable Utility Pods with modular gantry system[/url] . Lasercut from 3mm MDF, this is a premium kit for experienced modellers, as even the basic pod clocks in at 55 parts! Available in a range of kit sizes, the biggest Colony set weighs in at a bonkers 702 parts, so you won't run out of ways to set them up any time soon.

They're a very flexible kit, you can add optional fences and supports, and pods can be stacked as high as you like, the walkways can have support parts underneath them but they are also very self-supporting when painted. We've shown a couple of setups below, but there's no real limit to it as more sets can be added in later. Walkway parts can also be combined to make room and corridor setups for indoor games, we've thought about using the pods as containment cells for a clear-the-lab-of-zombies-or-aliens-depending-on-what-takes-your-fancy (or CTLOZOADOWTYF,( or 'cut-loz-ow-dow-tif' ;) ) scenario.

The sets are available now for despatch on Monday 20th of February, the first 25 orders received will also get a free set of antennae arrays that make nifty little objective markers.

Early Rumours on Dark Elves

the next Dark Elf army book release still is about a year in the future, but here some rumours that eldargal has heard:

Lord of the Rings new models per box ratio and price increase

I was browsing through the Games Workshop site ( as you do :question: ) and noticed that most of the Lord of the Rings Infantry box sets now only come with 12 models. ( 4 of each type of model, archer, warrior and warrior with shield )

They used to have twice that amount (24), not only have they decreased the amount per box but they have put the price up (surprise surprise). In Australia for the box of 24 it was $55 ( thats equal to 37 pounds or 60 American dollars ). Now for the 12 its $37 ( 25 pounds or 40 American dollars ) and there only 2 part snap together models.

What the heck was Games Workshop trying to do? There making it harder to have a resonable force and it would cost a heck of alot of money if your trying to play War of the Ring ( the larger version of the Strategy Battle game where you pay points for bases of 8 models ) and you would have to buy two boxes to be able to make a single base of each type.

For a new player to get into the game they would have to spend a load of money (and the starter set isn't even that good), with The Hobbit coming out soon there is likely to be atleast a few. At my FLGS I could get the box of 24 models for $38.50 ( $40 US or 25 pounds )and still can while the stocks last but when they run out and the new 12 model boxes replace them I'm going to have spend around double to get the same amount of models.

I'm sure some of you out there are just waiting for Lord of the Rings to die out, well its got its oportunity now.

In addition the new Finecrap command sets that are a being released are a whopping $66 dollars for 4 models ( $70 US or 45 pounds ). I dont see anyone buying those, most will probably try to get the remaining metals off ebay.

Has GW shot itself in the foot again? (its must be starting to look like cheddar cheese) What are your thoughts?

So awhile ago there was a rumor going round that THQ had cut the cord on Dark Millennium. THQ came out and said that they totally hadn't and that it was still in production.

"While the game in development promises to be a high-quality consumer offering, because of the large financial commitment and associated risks, we are being realistic about our resources and we are actively seeking a partner for this compelling MMO," he said. MMOs are an expensive business and Dark Millennium is certainly no exception. In March 2011, THQ CFO Paul Pucino said the game would cost around $50 million to get to market. [/quote]

Sounds like it will either quickly follow the release of the official Mac release for Hero Lab, or that the beta will run concurrently or overlap. The information is not exactly [i]specific[/i].

I, for one, am extremely excited about the coming release of Army Builder for the Mac. Not only as someone who lugs around a Macbook for a living. But also, due to the easy port to the iPad/iPhone interfaces.

Here's hoping they upgrade the visual "look-and-feel" of the interface, because it is incredibly dated.

When greenskin tribes gather for war, foetid effigies depicting the Orc gods Gork and Mork will be constructed. Using rock, dung, old battle trophies and other detritus, these ‘statues’ are intended to bring the favour of Mork (or possibly Gork) to the Orcs and Goblins mustering in their shadow. Some are no more than a heap of stones or no larger than a chapel door, but when a Waaagh! is brewing they can grow to immense proportions, and become so infused with the greenskins’ lust for battle that they are roused into life and will lumber forth to crush and bludgeon the enemy.

If a Waaagh! is subsequently defeated, or the concentration of greenskin magic dissipates, the idol will lapse back into immobility. However, when a Storm of Magic rages across the Warhammer world these gigantic devotions to the greenskin gods may rise up again as a Rogue Idol, mindlessly attacking all in their way until the storm blows its course.

How hard is it, as authors, reigning in artistic licence when bringing to life something that has been rigidly laid down in Warhammer 40,000 lore since its inception?

Graham McNeill: Part of the fun is that it’s not that rigid.

Dan Abnett: There is a lot of material to draw on and it’s about respecting that while trying to find the angle that you want to approach it from.

Graham McNeill: There are established events like Calth and Prospero that people know a bit about, but we can add in things that you didn’t know, so that you come away knowing more than you did before.

There have been hints at how the Grey Knights were founded, any chance of a full story into how the Inquisition was established and the great secret behind the ‘I’?

James Swallow: I was deliberately subtle with this, perhaps too subtle, as everyone seems to miss it. Malcador’s symbol was an eye, and that is what Garro wears on his shoulder. I was playing around with the fact that it is impossible to tell the difference between ‘eye’ and ‘I’ when you are listening to an audio drama. I was interested in exploring the concept of things twisting and changing over time.

As for the Grey Knights, Garro and the Knights Errant are the root of the chapter, but there is a long way to go before they become what we now know. I like to think that Codex: Grey Knights contains the very end of their creation myth, while the Garro series explores the very beginning.

How much does fan interaction help or hinder your own writing process?

James Swallow: I like talking to fans, because I am a fan of so many things myself, so I can really relate to their excitement and enthusiasm. I regularly drop into my local Games Workshop Hobby Centre and chatting to the staff and customers there can reinvigorate my passion and enthusiasm for my writing.

What, of all the things written, both by yourself or others, have you found to be the most heart-rending or soul searching of events or characters within the Heresy?

Graham McNeill: I definitely had a lump in my throat when Torgaddon died.

Gav Thorpe: Corax’s single tear in Raven’s Flight as he realises the galaxy has changed and doesn’t know where he fits in it anymore.

Dan Abnett: I don’t have a specific event, but I love the fact that, before he falls, Horus Lupercal is such a likeable character. It makes it much more tragic when he does turn.

James Swallow: I really liked the moment in Flight of the Eisenstein when the planet is virus bombed and Temeter nobly sacrifices himself.

Do you find it difficult to write scenes for the Primarchs because of their powerful stature in the Warhammer 40,000 universe?

Dan Abnett: I actually find it easier than writing dialogue for Space Marines. Primarchs are superhuman, but Space Marines seem to straddle both worlds. I suppose writing about superheroes for so long helps a bit.

James Swallow: You have to remember to be epic, but not all the time. You have to be able to give them depth.

Will you ever do a book from the Emperor’s point of view?

forge world now has scarab bases on sale on the "new stuff" section of website. this probally means no GW box set for them. if GW continues to nmake scarabs they will probally only come as add ons for warriors or maybe the spider kit when its released. 16 pounds for 3 bases... not great but not horrible either i suppose.

Horus Heresy movie in the works from Codex Pictures?

Here is a very rumoury rumour based entirely on observation by myself.

The latest Horus Heresy black library video for Know no Fear:

At about 1:05 it plays an audio clip of someone stating that the imperium is finished and Horus is rising. The style of the recording (accent, quality, effect) is very similar to that done by Codex Pictures for the Ultramarines movie. Codex pictures and relic/thq are then thanked at the end of the clip (1:38). Previous Horus Heresy book videos have thanked THQ and Relic so they seem to have some part in the existing videos, but this is the first time Codex Pictures have been thanked.

It would also be a logical choice as Codex Pictures previously stated that the Ultramarines movie was marine vs marine to save on 3D modelling expenses, so this would allow them to make a much better movie with focus on scenery and animation now that their space marine models are largely completed (in terms of animation, etc) from the first movie. Perhaps GW have a bit of guilt from barely promoting ultramarines at all as well.

Victrix 28mm plastic Greek Hoplites preview

Whew, looks like victrix is finally getting their stuff sorted out with the greek hoplites. They have an estimated release time of April/May for these guys. I hope it sticks, for the record we have seen development on the greeks since late 2010 and they were expected to come out soon after the Austrians.

I am a highly skilled terrain painter and former co-owner of Sabol Studios and Sabol Designs, Inc. I painted the majority of all the work for the last 11 years at Sabol Studios. I have painted simple pieces, full table tops, terrain for stores and massive display pieces.

I am now doing free lance work on my own, taking on terrain painting for any scale for fantasy, sci-fi, historic or any other genre.
