Forge World Newsletter #232
Hi There,
The Forge World Open Day is fast approaching, and we can reveal more details of what will be a fantastic show in this newsletter, along with a reminder that once again it is completely free to attend the event. We also have news of exclusive new kits that you will be able to buy on the day, as well as details of more exciting events in our 2010 show calendar.

Thanks,
Ead Brown

Forge World Open Day 2010 – Sunday 28th March
The Open Day is a great chance to come along and see what we have in store for you in the coming year, and all of our studio staff will be there for you to come and talk to. You’ll be able to see work-in-progress miniatures and artwork, as well as proof copies of the forthcoming Imperial Armour Volume 8: Raid on Kastorel-Novem. We will also have exciting, as-yet unseen models, participation games and much more.
Doors open at 10am and the Open Day itself will continue until 4pm. No ticket is required, and admission is free at the door.

Sneak Peeks and New Releases
As well as previewing future projects on the Studio stand, we will have a limited quantity of some of them available for you to buy. We will reveal more just before the event, but for now we can whet your appetite with details of some of these new releases:

Raven Guard Rhino, Land Raider, and Terminator Land Raider Doors
The Raven Guard specialise in lightning attacks; demoralising raids from the shadows on the foe’s vulnerable supply lines that weaken and confuse the main strength of an enemy force. When the time is right, ebony-clad Space Marines will launch an overwhelming assault, their stark white heraldry gleaming as they slaughter the enemies of Mankind. While a Raven Guard strike force is predominantly composed of Assault Marines, heavy equipment is also used – the armoured vehicles of the Chapter are honoured relics, lovingly maintained and embellished by skilled artificers to display their battle honours and Chapter heraldry.

These vehicle upgrade sets, designed by Simon Egan, are ideal for use on all types of Space Marine tanks – each contains replacement side doors and a front hatch suitable for use on all Rhino chassis tanks such as Predators and Whirlwinds, and all Land Raider variants. Two sets of Land Raider doors are available, one featuring additional Crux Terminatus icons. Click here to view images of these doors used on different types of Space Marine vehicles.

Elysian Troops for Valkyrie
This fantastic upgrade set for the plastic Valkyrie allows you to embellish the interior of the transport with a squad of Elysian Drop troops prepping in the moments before an assault – the troopers are all highly distinctive; checking weapons, talking amongst themselves and discussing the mission over a dataslate. The set contains a full Drop Troop squad of 10 seated troopers carrying a variety of equipment, as well as lasguns mag-clamped to the roof of the Valkyrie. The detailed heads of each trooper could also be used to add variety to a standard Elysian squad with some conversion work. You can find pictures of these incredible miniatures, designed by Simon Egan and Will Hayes, here.

Elysian Tauros Assault Vehicle
The Tauros Venator is but one variant of this multi-purpose assault vehicle - the ‘standard’ 4-wheel Tauros is used by the Elysian regiments as a long-range scout vehicle, mounting potent anti-personnel firepower in the form of either a Heavy Flamer or Tauros Grenade Launcher. Its four wheels are individually powered by advanced high-yield galvanic motors, allowing it to maintain speed even with damaged tyres – often a crucial edge when faced with superior enemy firepower. This detailed model, designed by Will Hayes, is a full resin kit that comes with options for a Heavy Flamer or Grenade Launcher as well as two resin crew, designed by Simon Egan. The Tauros can be transported in either a Valkyrie Sky Talon or a standard Valkyrie, which the model will physically fit into. See pictures of the Tauros Venator here.

New Forge World Weathering Powders
Our penultimate Open Day release is a new set of our popular Weathering Powders – this new range of eight pigments compliments and expands the six powders currently available. The new powders are Aged Rust, Light Rust, Bone Dust, Faded Green, Dark Iron, Dry Mud, Fresh Mud and Medium Earth, and are available both individually and as a full set – our talented Studio designers will also be demonstrating how to work with Weathering Powders throughout the day, so make sure you stop at their stand.

Ork Runt Bot and Grot – 2010 Show Only model
This fantastic figure, designed by Mark Bedford, is our exclusive Event-Only figure for 2010. Meks are always keen to test their bionik designs on the battlefield, and if no suitable ‘patients’ are available they will build a Runt Bot; a huge, clanking parody of an Ork warrior powered by a rumbling engine and directed into battle by a plucky Grot, who will be provided with a ‘kontrol pad’ for the mechanical warrior. This finely detailed and striking vignette depicts the Grot controller perched precariously on the shoulder of the Runt Bot, wrestling with the joystick in an effort to direct the shearing claws of the monstrosity. This great miniature can be used to represent a Warboss with the Bionic Body upgrade, a Nob in Mega-Armour, or simply as a centrepiece or painting project. You can find pictures of the Runt Bot and Grot Kontroller here.

All these great kits will be available to purchase in limited numbers from our Sales stand at the Open Day – you can also place a reservation order for all these items, but as we don’t yet know what quantities we’ll have on the day we will not be able to confirm reservations until the very last few days before the show.

Attractions and Activities
Ork StompasAs well as all the pre-release miniatures that our designers will be showing off, we will have many other fantastic displays and activities. You’ll be able to view the Forge World Studio’s Kastorel-Novem Ork board in all its glory, as our talented designers have expanded what you might have seen at Games Day UK last year.

We will also have two great participation games: Firstly, our ever-popular Warhammer 40,000-scale Aeronautica Imperialis game which will allow you to take command of either the noble Imperial Navy, a valiant Tau Air Cadre or a crack skwadrun of Ork Fightas and do battle in high-G dogfights to rack up the highest kill tally.

Reaver vs StompaWe will be unveiling a brand-new, giant Apocalypse participation game for this year, which sees an Adeptus Titanicus battlegroup supported by Imperial Guard tanks take on the savage might of a Goff Ork Stompa mob and their Speed Freek allies – skill, tactics and the ancient might of the Titan Legions face off against raw aggression, savagery, and the brutal genius of the Mekboyz.

Our sales stand will carry a wide range of Forge World kits, but you also can place a reservation order. This is the best way of getting exactly what you want, as we will ensure your order is packaged up and waiting for you at the Reservation point on our stand. You will be able to collect it at any point across the day, which means that you can spend more time enjoying the rest of the show – reservation orders must reach us by March 23rd.

To place a reservation, just send an e-mail to forgeworldreservations@games-workshop.co.uk including your name and a list of everything you’d like to reserve, and title your e-mail ‘Open Day Reservation’. You can also place a reservation order by telephone – just call 0115 916 8177 and a member of the Customer Service team will be pleased to assist you.

You can also bring your painted Forge World models and enter our painting competition – the model we judge as the Best in Show will win renown, honour and a unique trophy so make sure to bring your finest work.

Once again we’ll also be running our Charity Raffle – tickets are £1 each and all proceeds will be donated to Children In Need: this year the prize will be the mighty Reaver Titan. You can, as always, purchase as many tickets as you like and the draw will be made at the very end of the day – this is your chance to win a Titan for a pound!

The Warhammer World facilities will be open as normal so you can visit the store, take a look around the Citadel Miniatures Hall and admire the many jaw-dropping gaming tables created by the Scenery Team.
Food and refreshments will again be available in Bugman’s Bar throughout the day – they will even be serving a breakfast menu to start you off in the morning.
If you need directions to the event you can get them from the Warhammer World website Here, and you can find more details of the show on our website Here.

Games Day France and Salute 2010
Forge World will be attending Games Day France on April 18th at the Parc Floral de Paris, and Salute on April 24th at the Excel Centre in London – more details for each of these shows can be found on our Events pages.

We are now taking reservations for Games Day France and for Salute – just send an e-mail to forgeworldreservations@games-workshop.co.uk including your name and a list of everything you’d like to reserve, and title your e-mail ‘Games Day France Reservation’ or ‘Salute Reservation’. You can also place a reservation order by telephone – just call 0115 916 8177 if you live within the UK; 00 44 115 916 8177 from much of Europe or 011 44 916 8177 from the US and Canada.
Left off two pictures for the upcoming event, as SOMETHING needs to be a surprise!

New fantasy/medieval 30mm papercraft models from Dave's Games

Hi everybody. I've been busy designing new 28mm-30mm papercraft models for fantasy and medieval wargames. Most of these will work for Napoleonic, World War I and World War II games, too. Check out DavesGames.Net for my full collection. These are available through Ecardmodels.com, as well as Wargame Vault, DriveThruRPG and RPGNow. I'm also planning to sell my files through Paizo starting in April.

Here's what I've released since my last update:

More 40k rumours from Stickmonkey on Warseer

This has gone all but unseen as he amended his original thread which was moved to their GD area so I thought I'd re-post it here as there's some good stuff. :D

http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=237442&page=11
So, it's been a while, but a lot of my info is finally getting realized. Still a lot to go. Looking forward to the rest of the year for sure.

From my first post...

Nothing new on these:
*********
* New GK Terminators 3ups (5 poses, 1 HQ/leader)
* New Daemonhunter/Witchhunter concept art
* New DH/WH vehicles/support

* New DE models (these are sweet, and I'm not a DE lover)
* New DE concept art

* New Necron MC sized model (new rumor thread here suggests bone giant-esque MC...)
* New Necron concept art

* New Ork vehicles (been a long time since we saw new buggies...)

* New 40k concept art and 3ups tied to a future Codex release

These are all out or soon to be:
************
* New Ork dreads (BM, March)
* New Marine models for a specific chapter (BA, April)
* New SM concept art (BA, April)
* New Guard tanks/artillery (BM, March...more to come? :) )
* A lot of the Missions book tie in releases (ven dread is out...are more still coming?)

So what new things have I seen?

* got to see some preliminary cad for upcoming plastic elite orks
* Tanks! I can now confirm Tanks are coming...following the Incoming email...unfortunately, I can't go into more detail. I will say the age of the hybrid kit is soon to end. Some of you have already made some good guesses.
* More terrain, beyond the recently spotted SM statue set, there should be additional terrain later this year. Although, I would not hold your breath for Xenos just yet.
* And GW still has some surprises in store thru the year end, certainly the Astartes push has not ended April 6...

for a year of Fantasy, 40k is having a banner year...
Plastic Meganobz, oh yes.

Necrons 2011 rumours

Necrons2011 over at Warseer posted this: http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=249667

Hello, I can't start a thread.

I have some information regarding the development of a Necron codex. I do not normally come on Warseer, but thought you would appreciate this information – hence the small number of posts. You have no reason to put faith in me – and I am not prepared to prove my validity at potential detriment to my career. I do not want to specify my exact employment with Games Workshop for this reason.

Necrons have completed the initial concept phase of their line expansion. Release schedule is currently for January 2011.

This conceptual phase has been stop-start for some time – it is a product range that has massive potential, and Games Workshop have been very uncertain of the most lucrative theme by which to capitalise on its fanbase. The development is considered a high-risk investment – a commitment problem that the team is well aware of, and is exacerbated by there being multiple such high-risk line expansions currently being pursued.

3 multi-part plastic kits have been finalised as:

- Immortals
- Spyders
- The Necromancer

Immortals are on a large (35mm) base; they are redesigned as larger, bulkier and more dynamic.

Spyders have 3 different builds

The Necromancer is the central sell of the line expansion and has been the focus of much of the early design process. It has been through several incarnations (and names), but is essentially of the same principle as the Bone Giant for the Warhammer Fantasy range. It has a mechanised skeletal torso housing a suspended crystal, and will likely have a choice between two horrific weapons.

That is all the information I can disclose. I will not post any more.

I would like to add that development staff are getting very frustrated by headquarters’ increasingly tyrannical policies – within and between departments – with regards to information restriction. It’s absurd, and unnecessary.

Incoming!-Spearhead

  — Article by Adam Troke
http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/article.jsp?aId=9500028a

Gather your tanks and ready your lascannons – in June the pages of White Dwarf magazine and the Games Workshop website join forces to bring you a whole new expansion for Warhammer 40,000: Spearhead.

Spearhead is a new way to play Warhammer 40,000 that enables you to unleash exciting tank battles and daring breakthrough missions on the tabletop, bringing the full mechanised fury of the 41st Millennium to bear in your games. June's White Dwarf will contain the main part of the supplement, including new rules, missions and plenty of inspirational hobby advice. Alongside this, the Games Workshop website will feature additional material exclusively for registered members, such as details of how to assemble your Spearhead formations along with even more painting, modelling and collecting tips.

As if a whole new Expansion wasn't exciting enough, it's going to be accompanied by a range of new miniatures including some stunning new plastic kits – more details of these kits, and the Spearhead Expansion, will follow in White Dwarf and here on the Games Workshop website.

A word of advice, however – because it contains a new Expansion, June's White Dwarf promises to be very popular. If you're not already a subscriber now's probably a very good time to correct that, and to register on the Games Workshop website to hear all the news first.

The Black Library..

Has gone live!

http://www.blacklibrary.com/

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Believe us when we tell you that Space Marine is quite unlike any other Warhammer 40,000 novel you’ve ever read.

First published in 1993 – though completed some years earlier – at a time when the background to the Warhammer 40,000 universe was still in a state of flux and not yet fully coalesced, the book follows three young Imperial Fist recruits from their formative years in the underhive gangs of Necromunda through to fighting as part of the First Company within the bowels (literally!) of a Tyranid bioship.

Not only will you find squats in this novel –Tzeentch-worshiping squats at that – but also Space Marines controlling Titans, Space Marines with lasguns, the Pain Glove and more than a small amount of toilet humour. Oh, and a Zoat. How could we forget the Zoat?

Although the temptation was great to rewrite significant portions of this book to make it conform to current background, as a curiosity piece, an historical snapshot of the Warhammer 40,000 universe circa the early 1990s, this book is invaluable. It also serves as a shining example of what can happen when a respected genre author at the height of his powers is let loose on an established shared universe.
Army Painter Launching Normal Paint Range in Summer 2010

Just got this press release (see attached).

I've been converting over to their spray cans (quicker and easier than getting an airbrush up and running for a single base colour), so some 100% compatible touch up colours for them would be nice. On the other hand, I am a massive Vallejo Model Color fan so already have every colour under the sun. Should be interesting at least, and nobody should complain about having too many paint options :)

Blood Angels News

Sorry if this has been put in another post . . . but I couldn't find it.

So . . . I went into one of my local stores today to see an old colleague of mine. He decided he would let me see their pre-release Blood Angel info =D

Here's what I can remember: - Mephishton, T7, I7, one psychic power mentioned . . . done in assault phase, target model must take a LD test at -4, if they fail Mephiston gets to re-roll ALL failed hits AND wounds!!!

Astorath the Grim - Stops the 0-1 limit on Death Company

Gabriel Seth - That massive chainsaw? It's a S8, rending, 2 handed close combat weapon

Death Company have feel no pain =D

Death Company Dreadnought - They DON'T take up a force organisation slot, you can have one for each Death Company squad

Venerable Dreadnoughts - Elites choice

Normal Dreadnoughts - Heavy Support . . . can't remember Furioso =/

Sanguinary Priests - give Feel No Pain to EVERY squad within 6"

Sanguinary Guard - When they deep strike they only scatter D6", instead of 2D6"

So if the Libarian Dreadnought is in there, then that makes a lovely total of 13 Dreadnoughts!!!

Oshova . . . hope you're all excited as I am =D

Chapterhouse - Upcoming: Pre heresy styled Jump/jet Pack.

Hey.
Been sculpting on this for ages now since I wanted something to add to my own miniatures.
It is inspired by old pre heresy themes and I spent a great deal of time getting symmetry and making for easy conversions with other bitz like shoulder pads.

The "fins" at the back was something I liked to add to give a more old look. I call them air brakes and they come separate and can be glued on closed or opened position for added variety.
Bear in mind that they are loosely attached by small blobs of greenstuff in the pics (so the seams between the air brakes and the main turbine hull can look od with green blobbing out a bit) , as is the pack to a plastic mini for size comparison sake so things could always slip a little during my struggles with the camera.

It will be cast in resin for weight and stabilities sake, no need to have light plastic minis with heavy unbalancing backpacks.

Its odd and looks "old" but heck, I hope you like it.

Here some pics to show how it looks with the air brakes in the open position:

INAT FAQ v3.3 (w/Ork Deff Rolla rulings) & Appendix 1.0 now available!

Howdy everyone,

Attached below is the latest version (v3.3) of the Independent National Warhammer 40,000 Tournament FAQ (INAT FAQ), produced primarily for Adepticon 2010.

We desperately tried to hold out on doing a last ditch update until after GW released their Tyranid FAQ...but Adepticon is getting dangerously close and with GW's Deff Rolla ruling we knew that a few rulings needed to get published prior to Adepticon, so we've gone ahead done this mini-release of the INAT FAQ. Of course, knowing our luck GW will release their Tyranid FAQ tomorrow. :P

So what's changed? Except for rulings that were changed/added due to GW's Ork Deff Rolla FAQ answer, there are no other reversed or added rulings in this update. All that has been changed is the removal of a couple incorrect Tyranid questions/answers, a few general typo fixes and four new rulings in the Ork section that are all in regards to GW's Deff Rolla ruling...and that's it!

As always, any questions/rulings that have been altered from the 3.2 version have been denoted as such with a 'plus sign' ( + ) before the question # and have their 'answer text' colored red (just as with the 3.2 version) to make it easy for you to spot what has been changed (just jump to the Ork section this time around).

Also attached to the post below is the INAT Appendix v1.0. This covers all the Imperial Armor/Apocalypse unit questions and has not been changed since it was originally released (hence why it is still v1.0)

Further feedback for future iterations of the FAQ is always welcome and can be done so in this thread or by sending an email to:

adepticon@gmail.com

As always, thanks again to everyone who helped out this process by giving us quality feedback and constructive criticism. We certainly appreciate it!

Orders for KUSTOM GREENSKIN DICE *Now Open*!!!

The ordering for Wave #3 of the Kustom Greenskin Dice is now open!!!

This is the third group order that will be placed, and it will likely be the last. Please keep the excited comments to a minimum. I want to keep this thread as informative as is possible for those who do not know much about this dice project/group order.

You may order your dice and the new dice bag at:

http://www.conquestminiatures.com/greenskindice.htm

Be sure to fully read both this post and the opening directions on the ordering web page.

*If you have any questions about anything BE SPECIFIC. This is not only for my benefit, but also for the benefit of others viewing the thread(especially those people with no knowledge of the previous orders).

*The first post in this thread will be maintained with ALL pertinent information unless otherwise stated. If somebody later on asks a question which is answered in the Original Post(i.e. this post), they will simply get the response “RTFOP!!!”(similar to RTFM!- Google it if you don’t know the meaning). Basically, anyone who is so lazy as to not be bothered with reading this first post will be treated as the worthless git that they are. :D

Now for some FAQ(I'll update this as necessary):

Q: How much will the dice cost?

A: They will likely cost $1.10 US EACH. :thumbs

Q: How big are the dice?

A: The dice are ONLY available in 14 mm size and are solid colors. See the attached images for color options(more options may be added later).

Q: Are the designs engraved into the dice, or just printed?

A: The designs are engraved into the dice, and the engraving is then filled with color.

Q: Are any other dice designs available?

A: No.

Q: Will there be new colors available for the dice?

A: Yes, there likely will be. Maybe Pink even, for all the sexy ladies out there who play Orks. :D

Q: How big are the dice bags, and how many dice do they hold?

A: Maciej from Q-Workshop said: "...the(dice) bag is 10,5 cm x 12,5 cm(roughly 4" x 5"). I was able to put about 45 dice (d12 and d20, mostly) in it and still manage to close it, although that would be the limit - more would make it too hard to be worthwhile." You can probably cram around 50 six-sided dice into one dice bag.

Q: How will I order the dice?

A: You will be able to order the dice off of a web page in a shopping cart format.

Q: How will payment be handled?

A: Payment will be accepted through Paypal ONLY.

Q: Will you ship world-wide again?

A: I previously handled orders from Australia, Brazil, Sweden, and all throughout North America(where I live). I'll be handling the whole of the EU this time around too, and perhaps farther abroad. I will try to accommodate everyone, wherever they may live. *If you fail to add shipping costs to your order then your order will be refunded!!! If you live outside of the areas covered under the shipping areas listed on the checkout page, PM me prior to placing/completing your order and I'll see about accommodating you.

Q: How much will shipping be?

A: To those in the U.S. $7, or more if your order is particularly large. To those world-wide, anywhere from $16-$20 US, or more if the order is particularly large. These prices cover up to 200 dice. The price of shipping on packages that weigh over 4 lbs. increases dramatically, so it is best to keep your order to under 200 dice or so. If you want to order more dice than this, you will usually pay less for shipping if you place two separate orders rather than if you place one large order.

Q: Can I order a bunch of different dice?

A: Yes, you can, though Q-Workshop prefers that there to be at least 50 dice ordered of any color, as that makes it worth their time to set up their machines to produce them.

Q: Do the dice bags come in other colors?

A: No, but there are other dice bag designs available HERE.

Q: Why not just order the dice from Q-Workshop direct?

A: While that option will work fine for some people(see HERE), there are some added benefits to ordering in bulk as a group. The advantage of ordering in bulk as a group is a slight price break, being able to order the exact number of dice you want of each color, and a much larger color selection(35 color options instead of 3).

Q: Will I periodically be notified as to the progress of the overall order?

A: Yes. I will post both public updates on this thread as well as send updates via e-mail to all those who have placed orders. I will get people added to the group e-mail as quickly as I can. The demand seems much greater this time around, so who knows how many people that will be. If you have place and order but still do not receive e-mail updates then either you(or I) may have mis-typed your e-mail address. If you see public updates on this thread but have not received any e-mail updates, PM me your name and e-mail address and I will get it sorted. Last time I had a few people change their contact information mid-order. If you wish to do this then send me a PM with your name and new e-mail address.

Thanks.

GW Cost Cutting, Store Hours and More Changes to GW North America

As might be expected since the departure of Ernie Baker and the installment of Tom Kirby as head of GW US, more changes are in the works besides those announced already like the HQ move. Supposedly some positive and fun things are on the horizon, though details have not been revealed as yet. However, more cost cuts are being made too. As of one week from now many GW US stores will have their operating hours cut to 35 hours per week. Other dramatic cuts are rumored, though without confirmation I would hesitate to list them here. If anyone out there has confirmation of further changes, please list them below.

ChapterHouse Bio Swords and arms

Hi guys, I just finished making a couple pairs of biosword arms for Chapterhouse studios.

Instead of just one arm for big and medium sized creatures... we opted to make both left and right versions... also If you noticed and since they are biological arms, they have some diferences between them just to make it more interesting and fresh to the painters.

Chapterhouse folks asked me to insert some sort of crystal (due to fluff) in some place so the interior side of the swords have them instead of the mysterious eye that is present on the exterior side of the blade...

Without further talk here are some pictures...

Some huge zoom ins just for you guys check the texture and detail work

Oh and dont forget that version 1 of whips is also done... I will do a more classical whip version asap.
