Dipping Miniatures Using Quickshade and Turpentine (HD YouTube Video)

In this video, I go through the steps of dipping a Mantic Games Krudger, also showing how using Turpentine helps us to dilute, erase, thin and blend the Quickshade to achieve the desired effect. I recommend these materials:

- A pair of adjustable pliers.
- Disposable gloves.
- Pure Turpentine (note: this is critical).
- A decent, clean and cheap brush.
- Quickshade, or another suitable varnish of some sort (such as polyeurethane).
- A cool miniature - base colours applied and ready to go!
- Paper towels.
- Baking paper.
- Ventilation. It is important to have a source of fresh air.
- Make up removal sponges, cut into small chunks (this doens't have to be required).
- A disposable container (for holding the excess dip).

Although the examples in this video are basic to begin with, the possibities of this technique are quite massive :)

It was very fun to make - I hope that you enjoy and give it a go! Thank you very much for stopping by :)

Best regards,

Cosmic.

Edited for grammar and punctuation - no other alterations made.

Simple Metal Basing 2

Another way of creating simple metal bases:

Just instead plasticard, I used an old telephone card. These plastic cards can be found in SIM card packging, old debet cards, etc.

Computer flat cable from spare parts used as underground wires.

Left base:
- Cut circle from plastic card.
- Scribe straight lines (or separate by cuts) into 3 or 4 parts.
- Drill little holes (not trough) at tile corners.
- Glue plastic card pieces to original plastic base (you can leave little gaps between pieces if you want).

Right base:
- Cut circle from plastic card.
- Make rectangular opening, starting by little holes along edges. Make rectangular opening also on original plastic base, just a little bigger (1mm).
- Glue plastic card to original black base.
- Glue piece of flat wire at the bottom.

Flat wire glued at the bottom of base.

Left base:
- Make metal flooring as in Simple metal basing 1 tutorial: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/425625.page
- Cover rectangular opening with transparent plastic card piece (found transparent SIM card package card to do this).
- Cut frame from electrical stick tape and cover the gap. Paint wires before placing transparent piece :)

Right base:
Prime with black and drybrush with boltgun metal by Citadel. You can make some painting improvements here, but this is the simple metal basing, right? :)

How to build War Buggy/truck from scratch (sort of) Tut - Ork Army

this is my Ork War buggy / truck Tutorial, I've tried to keep it simple for all you big kids out there, you should be able to follow this no probs, if you can't you need a new hoby

the first pick is my tools as always, you need good glue too, NOT GW GLUE, there are some very good glues out there, i use Humbrol poly cement, it comes out of a needle point almost, it rocks

Next you will need a GW Deffkopta, buy them from eBay, don't pay more than £3.50p for them, thats postage too, this guys is where i get all my stuff from http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/the-bitz-store/?_trksid=p4340.l2559, make sure your Deffkopta is not built or stuck together, it makes life a whole lot easier.

you will need to cut the model up like ive shown with the red lines.

all the bits left put in your bit box, you never know when you need some crap for your basing.

next are the wheels, you can get these from eBay, more a GW model or mould your own, up to up, i'm not here to wipe your ass.
i made some discs, this is just to give me some support at the back of the wheels, this is made from normal plastic card

i then made the bars that the wheels go on, you wont really see this as it will be under the vehicel, and i normally cover it in mud anyway.

sit the Deffkopta on the bar to give you an idea what its going to look like, at this point you can still change things if it looks crap, so dont glue, anyway its not going there.

now we build up the front of the Deffkopta, mate it look abit like this, it dosn't have to look great as a Ork skull symbol will be stuck on it, ive put a big tube cut in half there to, this is there to give it more strength when i stick it to the wheel bar.

this picture shows what the wheel bars look like, i sit them on my table and moved them around till i like the size, then i make the bars marked with the red line, these are like girder's, i got them from a model train shop, you can buy big and small, as i said before, this is the underside, and wont be see, but do what i've done if only for the strength of the model.
the big red arrows are showing some supports that are there for mud guards that i was going to put in later, but i didn't.

now sticking time, stick the front down, well easy, the back is different, you will need to make up some sort of support like i have, stick the model down first, then build up around it and make sure it straight, then leave to dry, 2 hours or so, MAKE SURE IT STRAIGHT.

once dry, i then build up the strength of the model, putting more beams in, plus it looks good

and again here, dont go over board with them, too many may look silly.

this is a good time to fill in any hole that might be there from cutting up your Deffkopta, or like me, put some more armour plates on it.

now we are going to make the suspension, this is easy, dont panic, garden wire is your friend, go buy some, its kool, get some plastic tube or brass, drill a hole, stick it in the hole, twist, hay we made a spring, trim, bingo.

cut to size, mark a little support and stick.......well easy

do both sides

now we going to make it look like it can steer, again, this dosn't have to look great, i will probable cover this area in mud

follow what I'm doing, build it up with card and tubes

ok, the bits that are marked are struts that will support the mud guards.

now make your mud guards out of flat plastic card, just bend it to shape, take you time, get it right, don't forget to cut out holes for where the springs will sit next to, marked with red rings

bang on some armour plating, mark it look abit of a mess, this is where your off cuts come in handy (never chuck anything away)

make a skull symbol, draw it first then cut out, don't forget to make it a bit rough, if you struggle, copy a GW one or go to your bit box.

stick it on

make the back flat bed, dont stick it down yet tho, we are still building it up

these bits and supports as i wanted my one to be big big big

now stick it down, at this stage you should be thinging, do i stop, and make it a flatbed, or keep building it up, what ever look your going for keep at it or stop

i built up my sides

and put some armour plates on it

add the roll bars, easy to do, just build it up

bang some armour on it, make sure the ork can see out, it will look crap if he cant and you wont like the 10 year old telling you at a games one day.

making rivets, start with small square

stick them on, randomly and in places that look like a rivet should go

cut some suds

stick them on, also stick some on where you havn't put squares, its all orky

looking good

hope you like, i will paint and post at a later date.

how to make a Hatch from scratch - Orky Army

how to make a scratch built hatch for you Orky Army.

First off get some 0.1mm plastic card, I've tried my best to make the hole thing out of the same sized card, so to keep it very simple, cut 3 1inch by 1inch squares out

Stick 2 of them together and dill holes in each corner, this needs to be bigger than the plastic rod you will be using later to make it look like big rivets in the holes. the stick the last bit of card to it.

Now with your GW knife, roughen up the sides like I'm doing, this will make it look like its been cut with a welding torch.

Cut up some more card, this is going to make the sides of the hatch, so up to you really how high up you want your hatch to sit.

Build up the sides like I'm doing.

Now make some re-enforcements just like I've done and stick them on, you may need to file them a little just like i had to.

do this on both sides, you can make the base bigger, and do this on all 4 sides, up to you.

Now file the side at an angle, this is where the hatch will sit, it also makes it easier to stick and stronger.

in the picture above there are some tubs and rods cut to size and ready to be stuck on like in the picture below, these are going to make the hinges.
i also filed down a little of the hinge to make a flat area to stick the hatch, just makes it stronger again.

make the hatch to size and stick it on, also make up so detail, ie I've put some card inside the hatch to make it look a bit more real.
the area's highlighted are area that again I've made look like they have been cut with a welding torch, just do this again with you modelling knife.
These bit will be stuck to the out side of the hatches.

Cut a small bit of Tub, the same stuff as before, this will make part of the hatch handles.

then cut some bits like i have and stick on like handles.

make some rivets now by cutting a fin peace of card (square) just bigger than a smallest plastic rods you have, you may need to us you modelling knife to pick these up at they should be very small.

are now paint.

hope you like, just file down the edges before you paint as this will help it not look so new.

Crypt ghoul from vargheist left overs

I would like to share how i made three crypt horrors from the left overs from the vargheist pack. The two options in the vargheist box share only the front torso and the legs. Furthermore the crypt horrors are hunched over quite a bit so i would say you dont see the front side of the torso anyway (at least not much).

i started by filling the torso piece with putty (or rather paper clay - to save some greenstuff)

Then i laid a thin layer green stuff over that, and sculpted the breast from 2 larger balls of greenstuff and the abdominal muscles from 4 smaller ones.

i bent heavy wire into a form roughly similar to the legs from the vargheist and joined the two pieces at the hip with a large blob of greenstuff.

i dont know if it would be better to sculpt the legs in one go, but if found it easier to form a base (like in this picture) and then put down one larger piece roughly the shape of the muscle i intend to sculpt.

Legs and upper body joined. I wanted to get it done so i lacked the patience to sculpt two claws on each foot. However i would strongly recommend to try two claws or a more realistic foot.

primed white.

Finished painting. Im not satisfied with my painting to be honest. I belive its too green and with too litte depth. However for a model which i will most likely not field and got fro free its pretty ok.

how to Build a DakkaDakka from Scratch - Orky Army

Scratch built Heavy DakkDakka's

Ok the first thing we do is chuck away GW glue and go to a good model shop and buy some liquid glue that you can brush on or it squirt from a needle point.

next are your tools, that pic below is mine, i use metal rules too, a big and small one, all so a girls nail file, best thing ever and also some sand paper, fine is good.

the next things you'll need are plastic tubs, buy them online if you know the size or go to a good model shop and buy with your eye's, you need to buy 4 different sizes, they should all slide in to one another, you will see in this tut as we go on, make your own minds up, im not here to wipe your ass.

cut to size, remember your making gun barrels, so if your making small dakkadakka's then cut them small, how ever we are making the big mothers.

draw a line down the centre, the is just a guide for when we drill the holes, we start drilling in the centre on the line and work outwards.

i use my GW knife to make the holes bigger, i just stick it in and twist, it all so make them look a bit uneven and ork like.

put some glue on the inside tube, this wont need loads, then side them together, twist as you do so so the glue gets everywhere.

now we are going to cut some rings from the 4th side up plastic tube, this will help with the look of the gun barrel, you can use very fine plastic card and cut into strips and rap it round till you have the right side. i have done this in the past on bigger guns.

next we are going to make the bodys of the gun, this is make from just normal plastic card, the thicker you have will determine how many you need, as you can see, i only need 2 bits to start with

i'm starting now to cut up other bits of card to build up the look of the gun, i some times us GW DakkaDakka's and copy a small bit of what they do.

this part of the gun (below) is the empty case ejection hole, again build it up with plastic card, don't worry if it looks all over the place, its Orky.

now stick the barrels to the body of the gun, to keep the gun looking straight, the nail file comes in handy and all so twist the barrel round, some times this helps, do this as your (NONE GW) glue drys

making the ammo boxes is easy, we can all make a box, if you can't, then dont read on, and go play with doll's.......OK !!!
you can see ive also made some bits to stick them to the gun and for the ammo to lay on.

i always save the ammo belts and gun sights from my ork models as you never know when you will need them, as a small bit of GW model will help are scratch built guns look the dogs bollocks, and they.

the ammo belts are a little rounded, so just squash the with your finger and remove the mould lines.

now im making bits that look like the ammo boxes are attached to the guns and that the ammo is sat in a cradle, this dont have to look great, as we is Orky Army.

you can see how i'm building it up, its not hard, just cut to size, have a play, then stick.......easy hahaha.

now we are using the smallest tube, not really a tube, more of a soiled small plastic rod, but it fits inside the inner gun barrel, that's the bit we cut into rings, this part of the gun is the recoil rod or Gas buffers, if you know out about guns, but anyway, it make the gun look like a gun.

just copy what ive done and stick it at the bottom of the gun.

now we add rivets, this is cut from a very very very small rounded rod, like the one above, but well smaller.

and now paint.

i hope you like, Orks for ever !!

Magnetising GK Strike Squads: Two-handed and special weapons

Okay, this is intended as a short guide to show how I magnetise up two-handed (2h) weapons and special weapons as, from what I could see, no guide actually covers this and instead seems to deal with one-handed (1h) stuff. I wish I had more pictures, but as a lot of work required two hands, it was difficult to take pictures; I'll thus try to describe with as much detail as possible what to do where my pictures are insufficient.

In my opinion, if you are magnetising your GKs so that you can take every possible weapon configuration, then you want to pose all of your models to hold the 2h stuff. If you need to switch out your gear, you'll find the 1h weapons will fit easily enough and not look too bad. If the poses aren't doing it for you, magnetising the left arm can also allow a bit of repositioning when you change the weapon options. I just think it's good sense to use as many 2h weapons as possible since it frees up your 'reserve' 1h gear.

I am unsure as to this time whether or not you can swap the Incinerators easily with Psycannons, but they look the same size to me and use the same arms, so I see no reason why they shouldn't fit nicely.

What I used:
-A handheld drill
-A 2mm drill bit
-GW superglue
-2mmx1mm magnets (wide enough to be fairly strong, but not very deep, so they fit into Marine hands practically perfectly)
http://www.waylandgames.co.uk/expert-terrain-and-disc-magnets/magnets/50-standard-neodymium-disc-magnets-n40-grade-2mm-x-1mm-/prod_11903.html
Here's an example of a 2h posed model switching out:

Anyway, this is probably a no-brainer to most people. But ensure that you read the instructions that come with the kit and, when you choose your 2h weapons, use the correct arms! I was a bit of a fool and put together so many arms simultaneously that I mixed them up. It took a lot of trial and error to get everything right again; I think other people should be saved this hassle and know to be careful :P

Here's what you need for both the special weapon and the 2h sword (which fortunately uses the same arms as a Daemon Hammer and is actually immediately interchangeable if you magnetise the left arm to allow mild re-posing) and a special weapon:

Special Weapons
First, drill a hole in the left side of your marine's torso (I glue on the right arm to save magnets). I use a handheld hobby drill and like to start off light so I make a slight scoring; thataway I can see if I am on target (i.e. on the centre). If you find you're off, the scoring is slight so you won't be guided back into the hole you started drilling. I'd recommend always scoring your model before you start drilling proper. If you've made a bigger hole than you should have, you can 'point' the drill in the direction the hole should be and reposition the hole, albeit, now a bit bigger than it should be. But GS/superglue can fix this.

Do the same with the left arm, try to line it up with the torso as best as you can; again, score the arm and hold it up next to the torso to see how well you've done:

Apply superglue to one of the holes, then put in a magnet, do the same for the other hole. I like to keep the magnets stacked onto another GK's weapon (or arm, if relevant) so I remember the polarity. For example, if I'm glueing a magnet into a GK's torso, I'll grab an arm I've already done and stack the magnets on it to ensure that the polarity will be correct. If you are doing a magnetised army, you want *all* of your minis and weapons to have the same polarities on their stuff. There is nothing more irritating than getting this wrong as it can be very difficult to retrieve your magnets, so use caution!

Next, drill into the hand holding the special weapon (in this case, an incinerator) and the right arm. Notice that the 2mm hole is pretty much the maximum size possible:

Apply the magnets

Here's what you'll have (hopefully):

Pop on the left arm and glue the right, whilst it's still malleable, position the right arm, using the left arm as a guide, until the weapon lines up nicely with the grip. You are then done:

Edit: I've said it already, but just to be clear; I glue the right arm and position it whilst the glue is wet. You could magnetise it if you wish, but I prefer to save the (rather expensive) magnets and just pose the left arm to suit the right if I happen to change the weapon loadout.

You'll see that I didn't get it perfect, but I am by no means proficient at this yet!

Swordsman/(M.C.)Hammer

Drill the hands on the sword:

Magnetise them, then magnetise the left side of the torso and left arm.

Pop the arms onto the weapon, use the magnets to let you position the weapon onto the torso as pictured, you will then know where to glue the right arm, just like with the special weapon.

(Ignore the fact that the picture has no magnet on the left arm)

You're then done!

Finished product (same pic as at the top):

And there you have it, pretty easy. I found the process very intimidating at first as I had no idea how to go about it, but a little bit of trial and error got me there in the end (I think my biggest mistake was glueing on left arms, although it's possible to do all this with both arms glued, it means that my Justicars can't easily swap their DHs for 2h swords, which would free up some of the 1h variants). Hopefully what I've put here is enough to magnetise up a whole squad as, obviously, if you can magnetise up 2h stuff like this, 1h stuff is a picnic! Again, I recommend using as much 2h stuff as possible so it can be switched to 1h reserve gear. This wasn't something I realised until about half my stuff was done, but for my first all-magnetised army, it's a good start and a learning experience.

I hope the tutorial was useful!

How to make Blasters from a Shredder and a Blast Pistol

Ayo! I had a few minutes waiting for paint to dry, and I got a bit carried away. I needed to convert a blaster, so I thought I would take pictures of the process and share with the class. This is the first attempt, and I think it came out pretty good for being done so fast and easy.

The items you will need are an Exacto Knife, Glue, a Shredder and a Blast Pistol.

Cut the ammo bit off. This was a clean, easy cut to make.

Next, carefully cut the end of the Shredder. The bit that goes under the barrel is very fragile, it took me a second attempt to not completely snap it. Even then, I had to glue it back together because I put a small amount of pressure on it.

Next, cut the barrel off the Blast Pistol.

Glue the barrel onto the Shredder, and you're done! Wasn't that easy? You've probably got a ton of these laying around too.

Have Fun, and let me know if you have any questions or suggestions!

Step by step speed painting guide for black guard tanks.

Hi guys. In my tank thread the guys asked me for a step by step guide. I thought I would share that guide on this forum to. So I hope you enjoy and get some good ideas and tips from it.

1 After getting a nice black base coat do a fairly light drybrush of codex grey. I use a standard drybrush for this not a tank brush.

2 Repeat this with skull white.

That is the base armour painted and highlighted all In 2 easy steps.

3 Next the metal work. Paint anything you want metal with a solid coat of boltgun metal

4 Then give it a really good heavy coat of badab black

5 Then repeat this step with devlan mud

And thats the metal done.

6 Next step is to add the company markings. Start by painting the colour that will make up the sides regal blue.

7 Then using tape mask off a straight line the side closest to the front of the tank. You can you the indent on the other side to make the far edge of the middle colour. When this is done paint a codex grey stripe to form the base colour.

8 After this has dried apply 3 watered down coats of space wolves grey onto the codex grey basecoat.

At this stage you may need to do some touch up work on the line and any back parts inside it.

9 Now we will do the gun burns. firstly roughly coat the barrel in dwarf bronze.

10 Then add a purple to the area in the same fashion but a bit closer to the barrels end.

11 Repeat this stage with regal blue and then chaos black getting closer to the end every time.

12 Now give the whole barrel 2 good heavy coats of badab black over the section showing burn. Once this has dried stipple some dwarf bronze at the back of the burn to blend over the wash stain line that will of formed.

And after that All you do is add the id number. This is done with vinal numbers and letters sprayed skull white then simple added to the tank and add some dirt. I give my tanks a light drybrush of bestial brown using a tank brush to get the affect seen above.

Right I hope that works for you guys. Any more questions that I have not covered?

CC please.

Simple Metal Basing

I had no luck with searching for easy and good looking metal basing of my space marines. Then I had an idea about using sticky advertisement foil. This foil has little holes and one sticky side.
Here comes the thing:

The paint on this foil did not hold well, so i took a little off with sandpaper.

Cut the shape of the 'metal' part from the foil. Remove protective paper layer and stick it just like this on base.

Cut the overlaping foil and form a circle. Paint the foil with metalic color. I used the 'Boltgun Metal' from Citadel colors for this.

Wash the foil to get proper effect and pop up details. I used 'Devlan Mud' wash from Citadel colors.

I'm new in the w40k painting, so forget the details about the model ;)

Building Landing Craft for Dystopian Wars

So, I recently decided to run a mini DW campaign for my game group; you can see the thread for it here:

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/424899.page.

I wanted to include land, air, and sea components into each of the games. This mean that I had to have some way for the players to transport their land forces to the beach, but Spartan has yet to release (or even announce) official landing craft for the game. So, I decided to make my own! I had a few design criteria I wanted to incorporate:

1. A carrying capacity of at least 2 medium tanks or 3 small tank tokens.
2. Operating bow ramps (for the "cool" factor).
3. A simple design for mass production.

So, below is what I came up with:

First I started with a rectangle of styrene, 1.5" by 4":

As you can see, this is large enough to hold the two tanks I wanted to carry, while still leaving room at the back for a small supersturcture that would notionally house the engines and crew quarters:

Next, I took some 1/16" square styrene and lined the edges of the base plate, in order to provide bracing to the vertical side walls of the hull:

Once this was done, I fashioned the two sides of the hull from 1/2" strips of styrene sheet, with an angle cut into the bow end. I attached one of the sides:

Next, I started working on the door. The hinges for the door consist of styrene tubing and wire from a straightened paper clip. The first step was to attach a short piece of tube to the bow of the lander, on the same side as the one the wall was glued to above:

Next, I glued a longer length of tubing to the piece of sheet stock that will form the bow ramp:

Here are all the components for the door hinge, right before assembly. I found the trick is to make sure the piece on the boat and the piece on the door have had a little time to dry. I then inserted the wire into the piece of tubing on the door, slid it onto the piece of tubing on the lander, and then slipped the short piece of tubing onto the opposite end of the wire. I then glued that short piece to the hull. Once the other side of the lander is glued on, there is no way for the wire to slip out:

Here is a view of the completed hinge:

At the aft end, two pieces of styrene sheet were used to block off the cargo compartment and the stern of the lander. Another piece was added on top to completely box this area in:

Here is a look at the finished landing craft. The superstructure is a simple box made from styrene, while the smoke stack is a short piece of larger diameter styrene tube. The bow ramp has been equipped with a magnetic closure by gluing a rare earth magnet to the side of the hull and a short piece of paperclip wire to the edge of the ramp:

Overall, these landers satisfied all of my initial requirements. They certainly proved to be very useful in the first game of the campaign: Here is a group of three that have just disgorged their cargoes onto a beach:

Circle Orboros Colour scheme

Over the last six months i've had a bunch of people e-mail me and ask about how I created the colour scheme for my Circle Orboros army. It is a bit of an unusual scheme, that's always what I go for when painting a new project - something surreal and drastically different from what is shown on the miniature creator's website.

After getting underway with the army I would definately say in hindsight that if I were to do it again, I wouldn't do it the same way - the choice of colours didn't turn out 100% the way I wanted it to, although they are reasonably effective.

And although i'm never in the top 3 best painted for any tournament i'm at, whether it is warmachine, fantasy or 40k - I try to do my best wherever possible, so for those of you who aren't very good at painting at all, and feel that you have the motivation to pick up maybe one or two basic ideas, this video is for you:

http://youtu.be/5cBxIhqhL_Q

Also, Here is a link to a thread on another forum where i've posted some still pics from the rest of my army:

http://www.cityguard.co.nz/forum/index.php/topic,3494.0.html

Hello my fellow Dakkaites,

today I finished my first Cygnar Warjack Wreck markers and I wanted to share my techniques with you.
How to use Gw washes with thinning

More of a warning than anything, to those who arnt getting the effect they want with gw washes

The most simple and effective way to use them i have discovered is to ALWAYS thin them down so its roughly 1 part water and 1 part wash (1:1) , although they are already very liquid it is extremely important that you do thin them down or they will often pool and create streaks which is anything from subtle!

If your wishing to create very dark shadows with washes or simply create a darker look please PLEASE just use another coat of the thinned mix over this first as this will then make the wash darker, thus making the effect much better than just putting a whole load on in one go. You also need to wait until the first layer of the wash is fully dried before adding the second or will will simply become the same as adding one thick coat. ( i often hold my model close to my painting light which emits quite a bit of heat and so greatly speeds up the drying of any wash or paint i have used)

Hope this helps anyone new to washes or having trouble with them!

Happy washing :P

Eldar Corsairs: From Guardian to Corsair with a few key conversions

I figured I'd share this here knowing it'd reach more folks than if I posted it elsewhere.
With the release of IA11, I decided to finally try my hand at converting an Eldar Guardian into a Corsair using the Forge World model as my template/inspiration.

Here's how he came out. He's kind of involved, but you only need to build one and then a whole squad is easy to replicate.
The whole tutorial is here on my blog: http://fromthewarp.blogspot.com/2012/01/forge-world-inspired-eldar-corsair.html

Simple "Steampunk" Grey Knight Daemonhammers

First and foremost, excuse the terrible picture quality. The pic was snapped on my phone, and then edited through GIMP via the touchpad on my laptop, because my mouse died. It's the poster child for pictures that should not be, but I'm making this thing happen anyway.

So then, you get one, count 'em, one Daemonhammer with your GK Terminators. That should be enough for anyone, right? What if it's not? Furthermore, they offer you all these weapon choices that AREN'T psycannons, as if you're suddenly going to decide that using psilencers sounds like a novel and genius idea.... Hah!

Enter my solution:

Step 1, cut the ends off of two psilencers. You want everything on up to the iron sight on them, so the entirety of the "tri-barrel" assembly, and the round disc that seperates it from the actual body of the gun.

Step 2, glue the other piece that is the end of the actual psilencer barrels to that piece.

Step 3, repeat step one, and glue it to the opposite side of the open barrels you glued on in Step 2.

Step 4, cut off the tip of a haliberd/warding stave and glue this on. You may wish to try to pin/greenstuff as appropriate.

The picture as assembled is below. The red boxes seperate each individual piece.

Let me know what you think. This is how I'm representing my mastercrafted thunderhammers. The barrels kind of make me think of steampunkish pistons, which is kind of a nice touch.

Painting Aurora Chapter Marines!

I posted most of this in my blog, but its more of a tutorial, so I'll post it here.

This guide assumes you have an airbrush, as many of the steps require one. I used an Iwata HP-B Plus for this model. This is for an assault marine, but the techniques could easily be adapted to a tactical marine without any real trouble, or even a terminator.

Step 1: Base coat the model with VGC Dark Green mixed with VMG Imperial Blue, 6 drops to 1 drop, mixed with 4 drops thinning and 4 drops satin varnish. Just do light coats, and go back to hit any spots you miss. You need 100% coverage here.

Step 2: VGC Goblin Green + Thinner, 1-1 ratio.
Be sure to only spray this downward towards the top of the model, so it falls naturally on exposed parts of the armor.

Step 3: VMC Light Green + Thinner, 1-1 ratio
Spray this at a steeper angle downwards, so it hits less armor than the previous coat.

Step 4: VGC Transparent Green + Thinner, 1-2 ratio (filter layer)
You basically want to hit the entire model with a light coat of this, to give it a nicer shade of green.

Step 5: VGC Black Ink + Thinner, 1-3 ratio.
This is the shadow layer, and is mostly sprayed from the underside of the model upwards, under the jets, under the arms, behind the legs, etc. Anywhere that there shouldn't be much light falling on gets hit with this. It also acts as a basecoat for the rocks.

Step 5: VMC Stonewall Grey + Thinner, 1-1 ratio
Spray the rocks, leaving the middle a darker black.

Step 6: VMC Ivory + Thinner, 1-1 ratio
You want to do only the edges of the rocks with this to give them a final highlight.

Step 7: VMC Terra Earth + Thinner, 1-1 ratio
Step 8: VMC Florescent Green, undiluted.
I skipped a picture here, but the goal is to paint the base with the earth (duh), then to paint the top of the head, top of the shoulder pads, and the top of the jet pack with the florescent green to really make them pop.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
more airbrushing!
Step 9: A coat of badab black along the shoulder guards (just around the edges), around the helmet edges, and all over the arms and legs.

Step 10: Paint the chainsword and bolt pistol VGC Scarlet Red

Step 11: Paint the tips of the weapons VGC Orange Fire

Step 12: A bit of Black Ink near the base of the chainsword and back end of the bolt pistol

Step 13: Your done airbrushing at this point, so throw down a coat of satin varnish to protect the work so far.

Step 14: GW Black ink in the jet intakes and mouth piece

Step 15: GW Codex Grey around the jet intakes

Step 16: GW Chaos Black around the weapons, exposed suit between plates, and shoulderguard rims.

Step 17: VMC Dark Grey on the harness, belt buckle, chainsword guard, and pistol clip.

Step 18: GW Dwarf Bronze on the Aquillia and skulls, as well as fuel pipes on backpack.

Step 19: .2MM Black Micron Pen applied to seams in armor and the harness.

Step 20: GW Flesh Wash (OOP Ink) applied to the areas where step 18 was used.

Step 21: Didn't take step by step pictures for this, but at this point its pretty easy to just do a lot at once... not much left but details.

Basically just add codex grey to the harness as a highlight, then skull white to the harness as an extreme highlight. Then paint the chainsword and bolt pistol with some mithril silver, and then outline the chainsword blade with black ink. Paint the eyes with a spritz of blue for the OSL, then paint it imperial blue, then light blue, then a final highlight on the eyes of skull white.

At this point, your ready to finish the base with whatever basing material you want, put any decals you want on him, and your good to go!

Speedpaint Tutorial: Space wolf terminator

This is an old tutorial of mine, just translated it in English and shortened a little bit. It should take about hour and a half including basings. You should definately use wetpalette, because it makes work so much faster and easier. I painted five of these with these instructions and it took 3,5 hours. Not bad. But back then I was in constant hurry :)

Base with Citadel Chaos Black Spray.
First layer is mix of Game color Cold Grey and Citadel Ultramarine blue 1/1. I I'd had Citadel Shadow grey I would've used it.

Shoulder pads Yvanden Darksun and reds Mechrite red. Metallics Boltgun metal.

Badab Black wash over all blue and red parts. Avoid yellow unless you're painting Nurgle. After this another layer of Bluegrey

Mix Bluegrey with Game color Wolf Grey about 1/1. Dilute well (I used water). Several thin layers one after another.

Stages.

Golden yellow for yellow parts and mithril silver for boltgun parts.

Highlight red with first Blood Red and then Blood angel orange. Add some white dots to make it look like shiny. And that's a cookie by the way.

Dheneb stone for the face, wolftail on gun and purity seals.

Gryphonne sepia wash on face

Devlan mud wash for knee symbol, shoulder symbol and the beard. Then add some Devlan mud to bring shadows on powerfist, face and all the recesses. Sharp and thin lines with small brush 00, 3/0 or fine detail brush.

Yellow highlights are a mix of Golden yellow and Bleached bone 1/1. More Devlan mud for recesses.

Skull White highlights for yellows and Wolf grey tp armour.

Gun cover(?) Dark angel green, Gun pattern golden yellow/bleached bone mix and highlight the greens with Scorpion green. Another layer of Devlan mud on tail and then drybrushlightly with cold grey and after that with wolf grey.

Gem's painted with Blood red, highlighted with Blood angel orange and that small dot is Skull white. Powerfist runes are scorpion green, which is diluted with water and applied to recesses.

Result.

As I said this is old tutorial, but please ask and comment if you find something useful. What's that Green part all over storm bolter in English?

I have also Speedpaint tutorials for Necron destroyer and Plaguemarine. I'll post them here some day when I get them translated :)

How to Make Vulkurios Jetbikes

Ok here it Is My first Tutorial in 40k! So now let’s get started on how to make a easy Imperial Unique jetbike I will be showing in a set of pictures with the steps to make it in the below description so lets begin also below is a list of what you need to make it:

List:
1. A Space Marine Bike box set or a Ravenwing box set (recommended for a squad)
2. One Sanquinary Squad with the Wing Parts and the Jump pack end parts
3. a weapon set like a 40k Heavy weapon for example a plasma cannon or combine the bolters with the space marine bike.
4. One transparent stand or wood stick
5. Cutting knife
6. Glue
7. Space marine bike stand

Now lets get started with the assembly:

step 1: take the bike main parts and remove the Wheel extents to make the bike mud guards smooth along with removing the circle hooks for the Wheels to go on because this will help with making the Jetbike.

Step 2: Add the Bike Front Plate but first remove the sides so that it looks like in the second image looks like along with glueing the bike base for the foot grips (note remove the lines underneath this part because it will be needed for later) and attach the bike handles

Step 3: On the bottom of the bike, smooth out the flat surface of the space marine bike wheels and glue them as shown. As for the back of the bike, cut a wheel by picking two opposite sides of the wheel and cutting so they fit into the rear gap of the bike to use as the thruster. Also add a heavy weapon to the front gap where the front Bike wheel should be placed I recommend a Plasma cannon or a Heavy bolter from tank spare parts and let it dry for 15 mins keeping the gun to be straight.

Step 4: Attach the Sanquinary Guard wings where they are shown in the image on the bike along with adding the sanquinary Guard jump pack end bit on the rear wheel center acting as the Jetbike thrusters.

Step 5: final steps is to cut a transparent Stand to a low level and glue onto a space marine Bike stand being careful to get it in line with the bike so the model does not lunge out of line with the stand. Then Finally assemble the space marine rider like a space marine biker would normally be assembled however the rear wings might make it a little difficult to glue in place but after some patience and rearranging it can work.

So That's my Tutorial to Make my Version of a Imperial Jetbike and I would like your feedback on what you thought of it was it good? was it bad? and why so?
