Army, Navy and Air Force rolled into one - would it work?

Yesterday on Daily Politics, show host Andrew Neil asked Commander John Huxworthy of the UK National Defence Association this:
Here's a radical idea, just to get steam coming out of your ears. Why do we need three separate services in Britain now, with all the Generals and Admirals, and all the Wing Commanders, why don't we just have one massive UK - US style Marine force that does everything?
Commander Huxworthy's response was a lack of money and numbers (after all, the US Marine Corps alone has 20% more personnel than the whole British Army), but what I want to ask is, first of all, is this idea of the USMC accurate - I thought they were just amphibious infantry with some independence, but still subordinate to the Navy. And secondly, a combined all-in-one military? Could this work? Officers commanding forces on the ground, sea and air all in the same chain of command? If so, what would be the benefits?

Hello Dakka,

i finally choose to postpone a further work on my airship to paint again some minis.
subject is a little cadian mini that will mark the backbone of my upcomming steampunkish Praetorian army with lots of multiculural influences of different armies from the widespread empire of queen victoria...

the army concept is a bit like the roman empire where celtic and nubian and roman warriors fought side by side... so there will be jungle fighters fighting alsongside mordians and praetorians and other exotic fighters in that big army...

as a starter i am working on a suitable paintscheme that will tie all further minis regardless of their origin...

firstly i want to show you the first batch of minis that i will work with ...

these will serve as stormtroopers...and lots of brass will be used here...

these will be my backbone troops, evertrusting and shooty as hell...or hell in form of a commissar will get them...

captain Reed of the Royal Queens Brigande reported lastly for duty in Her majesty´s army and will be a big leader here...

andto get a more steampunkish air about the army this little fella will provide so almost unconvertedly...^^

so now to the maineven, as i present the for now paintscheme...
i painted the shoulders and the helmet white, boots and belt in black and the uniform clothes will be red...

now the tricky part is for me to determine what color should i do the carpace in? white might be the default chioce here but i am rather open wide for suggstions here as i am not really sure about that...really please lend a hand here, it is much apreciated...

the weapon is a mixture of black and metalic and i am rather unsure of that too...

so plase leave a comment...

vik

Ghost: Jumper L1 - Help?

So... Ghost: Jumper L1.

I've read the example online, and I guess I'm missing something, because I'm just not seeing what is so great about it?
Ghost: Jumper Example: The Posthuman Valentina Nero has deployed 3 Proxies to the battlefield. These are an infiltrated Proxy armed with a Sniper rifle, a Heavy Infantry Proxy with a Spitfire and a Proxy Hacker, hiding in the rearguard. Valentina decides to start in her infiltrated Proxy, placing the Active Proxy Marker beside it and declaring her Order: Move and Shoot. The successful shots of her Sniper Proxy clear the path for her Heavy Infantry Proxy. So, she places the Proxy Active Marker beside it and declares her next Order: Move and Move, taking up a good firing position with the Heavy Infantry. That is the end of the ALEPH player’s active turn, with the Proxy Active Marker remaining beside the Heavy Infantry.

His adversary’s active turn begins. A Hellcat lands in the rearguard of the ALEPH player, inside the Line of Fire of Valentina’s inactive Proxy Hacker. The inactive Proxy Hacker, using its reaction routines, declares a Dodge ARO, to try and gain Cover from the threat of the Hellcat. It will be a Normal PH roll, as the Hellcat has not shot at it. Valentina, even though downloaded to the Heavy Infantry Proxy, perceives what her Proxy Hacker does, and declares a Change Facing ARO with her Heavy Infantry Proxy, to cover the possible advance of the Hellcat.

The Hellcat declares a Move and Shoot Order against the inactive Proxy Hacker. This again triggers its reaction routines, declaring a Dodge ARO. Now the Proxy Hacker must to perform a Face to Face Roll (PH vs BS). Valentina, being conscious that dodging alone cannot prevent the threat of the Hellcat, decides to jump to the Proxy Hacker as an ARO to the Hellcat’s Order, and places the Proxy Active Marker besides it. However, the Proxy Hacker fails the Dodge roll, receiving a Wound. Thanks to its V: No Wound Incapacitation Special Skill, it remains standing.

The next Order of the Hellcat is to Shoot again and the Proxy Hacker, now active thanks to the downloaded presence of Valentina, can react in a normal way. So she declares a Shooting ARO. But luck is not with Valentina, and she loses the Face to Face roll. The Proxy Hacker receives another two hits, and falls Dead with Valentina still in it.

But, as the ALEPH player has an AI Beacon in play, as soon as an enemy figure declares an Order in LoF or ZC of either of Valentina’s other two Proxies, the Proxy can use its reaction routines and Valentina can declare an ARO to jump to the body of that Proxy, placing the Proxy Active Marker besides it.
Can someone help me out?

Your Own Unique characters in 40K

Basically come up with you own characters, the story behind them and the rules for them on the battlefield. Feel free to contribute characters or to suggest changes if you disagree with anything.
So, for example:

Screaming Lord Silon 70pts

WS 4
BS 4
S 3
T 3
W 3
I 3
A 3
Ld 10
Sv 4+

Equipment: Bolt Pistol, Power Sword, Carapace Armour, Frag Grenades, Refractor Field, Stubborn

One company command squad may replace its company commander with Silon.

Special Rules:
Senior Officer - As per Codex
Fading Genius - Once a great mind, horrors of the warp have left Silon slightly unhinged. As such, when issuing orders, roll d6 and compare to the following table:

1 - unhinged, unit nearest the enemy must either charge, or if not possible, move as close as possible to the enemy
2 - slow, Silon may only issue one order this turn
3,4 - usual, can issue two orders as per usual for company commanders
5 - lucid, Silon may issue up to three orders that turn, from both CC and BC lists
6 - flash of brilliance - In a moment of his old flair Silon may issue up to three orders from CC and BC lists, and may reroll 3 die for the IG forces in the shooting phase. However this causes strain and as such the next turn his roll has a -1 modifier.

"Screaming" Lord Silon was part of the 1st Meridians almost from birth, enlisting as a private at age 16, as was customary for all. He rose swiftly through the ranks, showing unusual tactical brilliance and flair. His first major battle was in a ship to ship action defending the moon of Mehrunes. His boarding actions and orders is still today used as an example of exemplary tactics, of use of cover and covering advance. His order to leave the wounded to speed the advance, though unpopular at the time, was also applauded as the speed of the attack was viewed as a crucial component of the victory achieved that day.

He continued to rise through the ranks of the imperial guard, before becoming the Company commander of the 1st Meridians, at the relatively young age of 44. Several years later, a Chaos incursion led to a drop pod assault on Mehrunes' to attempt to sieze its valuable admantium core. The 1st Meridians were present on the surface and fought a desperate delaying action. Eventually, despite 80% casualty rates, and thanks to the timely arrival of the armoured divisions of Meridia along with Templar allies, the chaos threat was defeated. Silon was held up as a hero to the Imperium for his actions in those desperate days, including his slaying of the Bloodthirster that tore apart the rest of his command squad. However, this had come at a cost, the warp terrors had cost him his mind. This placed the guard at a quandry, as he could not be removed from service as he was a hero, however, he was not fit for command. Eventually a compromise was reached, and he was put out to pasture as leader of the 9th meridians, who were essentially a battalion whose existence is only that of slowing the enemy for long enough that the full force of the Imperium can be brought to bear. He exists as a haunted soul, nicknamed for the screams that come from his bedchamber at night, as he relives again and again the events of Mehrunes, though the occasional flash of the old Silon occasionally surface, they are becoming ever further apart.

Harbinger of the Storm - any value?

I've been running these guys quite a bit in my lists and have had great success. Put them with a few immortals and they really shine, especially following the footsteps of a few wraiths. They can soften up targets, shoot down a vehicle if it gets too close and generally if you give them Lightning Fields they are difficult to charge unless it's a full strength unit.

Anyone else feel like this is an under appreciated Harbinger? Any thoughts or has anyone else given them a run?

Obama budget defeated 99-0 in Senate

If all those Democratic Senators would stop obstructing the President's vision we could get something done.
http://www.washingtontimes.com/blog/inside-politics/2012/may/16/obama-budget-defeated-99-0-senate/
President Obama's budget suffered a second embarrassing defeat Wednesday, when senators voted 99-0 to reject it.

Coupled with the House's rejection in March, 414-0, that means Mr. Obama's budget has failed to win a single vote in support this year.

Republicans forced the vote by offering the president's plan on the Senate floor.

Democrats disputed that it was actually the president's plan, arguing that the slim amendment didn't actually match Mr. Obama's budget document, which ran thousands of pages. But Republicans said they used all of the president's numbers in the proposal, so it faithfully represented his plan.

Sen. Jeff Sessions, Alabama Republican, even challenged Democrats to point out any errors in the numbers and he would correct them — a challenge no Democrats took up.

"A stunning development for the president of the United States in his fourth year in office," Mr. Sessions said of the unanimous opposition.

The White House has held its proposal out as a "balanced approach" to beginning to rein in deficits. It calls for tax increases to begin to offset higher spending, and would begin to level off debt as a percentage of the economy by 2022. It would produce $6.4 trillion in new deficits over that time.

By contrast the chief Republican alternative from the House GOP would notch just $3.1 trillion in deficits, and three Senate Republican alternatives would all come in below $2 trillion.

The Senate is holding votes Wednesday on Mr. Obama's budget, the House GOP's budget and the three Senate Republican alternatives. None was expected to gain the 50 votes needed to pass the chamber.
Brand New Navy Ship Dissolving

Sort of a cluster fuck of "get what you pay for" "blame the victim" and "epic stupidity"
http://m.gizmodo.com/5814840/builder-blames-navy-as-brand+new-warship-disintegrates
The Navy's newest warship is slowly disappearing, one molecule at a time.

This isn't a sequel to the 1984 sci-fi flick The Philadelphia Experiment, in which a Navy destroyer-escort vanishes through a time portal in Pennsylvania only to reappear in Nevada, 40 years later.

No, this time the disintegration is real. And so is the resulting tension between the Navy and the disappearing warship's upstart builder.

The afflicted vessel is USS Independence, the second in the sailing branch's fleet of fast, reconfigurable Littoral Combat Ships. Eventually, these ships are supposed to be the "workhorses" of tomorrow's Navy.

As Bloomberg reported, the Navy has discovered "aggressive" corrosion around Independence's engines. The problem is so bad that the barely year-old ship will have to be laid up in a San Diego drydock so workers can replace whole chunks of her hull.

In contrast to the first LCS, the steel-hulled USS Freedom, Independence is made mostly of aluminum. And that's one root of the ship's ailment.

Corrosion is a $23-billion-a-year problem in the equipment-heavy U.S. military. But Independence's decay isn't a case of mere oxidation, which can usually be prevented by careful maintenance and cleaning. No, the 418-foot-long warship is basically dissolving, due to one whopper of a design flaw.

There are technical terms for this kind of disintegration. Austal USA, Independence's Alabama-based builder, calls it "galvanic corrosion." Civilian scientists know it as "electrolysis."It's what occurs when "two dissimilar metals, after being in electrical contact with one another, corrode at different rates," Austal explained in a statement.

"That suggests to me the metal is completely gone, not rusted," naval analyst Raymond Pritchett wrote of Independence's problem.

Independence's corrosion is concentrated in her water jets - basically, shipboard versions of airplane engines - where steel "impeller housings" come in contact with the surrounding aluminum structure. Electrical charges possibly originating in the ship's combat systems apparently sparked the electrolysis.

It's not clear why Austal and the Navy didn't see this coming. Austal has built hundreds of aluminum ferries for civilian customers. The Navy, for its part, has operated mixed aluminum-and-steel warships in the past.

But Independence - the Navy's first triple-hull combatant - could be a special case for both the builder and the operator. For all Austal's chops building civilian ferries, the Australian company is new to the warship business. Austal set up shop near Mobile in 1999. Today, the shipyard has contracts to build 10 LCS plus several catamaran transports for the Navy.

From the Navy's point of view, Independence and the other Littoral Combat Ships are unique. As in, uniquely cheap. Each vessel is supposed to cost just $400 million, compared to more than a billion bucks for a larger, all-steel Arleigh Burke-class destroyer.

Lots of things - major weapons, for one - have been left off the LCS in order to keep the price down. The list of deleted items includes something called a "Cathodic Protection System," which is designed to prevent electrolysis.

Independence will get the protection system installed at the first opportunity, and future LCS will include it from the beginning, according to Pritchett.

But instead of simply filing the corrosion issue under "lessons learned," Austal seems determined to blame its customer. "Galvanic corrosion has not been a factor on any Austal-built and fully-maintained vessel," Austal stressed, implying that Independence hasn't been "fully maintained" by a negligent Navy.

That's an, ahem, interesting approach to customer relations for America's newest warship-builder.

And things could get worse, as more LCS enter the fleet. "I suspect there will be other public problems revealed over time that will require relatively simple, albeit costly, solutions," Pritchett wrote. Will Austal also blame the Navy the next time a glitch appears in the ships it builds?
Kudos to USN procurement and design.

How much deviation allowable in a Codex-Adherant Space Marines Chapter?

About a year ago I started painting a custom Space Marine chapter before I really knew much about the fluff. As the project advanced, and I learned more about the universe, I decided I wanted them to adhere strictly to the Codex Astartes. The problem was, I had already painted up almost two full squads of tactical marines with blue shoulder pauldron trim (link to my P&M Blog is in my sig, if you care). According to Codex: Space Marines 5th Edition, blue shoulder trim is restricted to the 9th Company, which is a reserve company consisting entirely of Devastator Squads.

I guess my question is, have I already violated the Codex Astartes too much to be a "strict" Space Marine chapter, a la the Ultramarines or Imperial Fists? What alternatives do I have to show differences in company and squad? I'm not sure how to develop my fluff. I'm now considering diverting from the Codex entirely, giving my Chapter a mutated gene seed, and doing elite squads in a different paint scheme, like the Dark Angels or Gitzsplitta's Mantis Warriors.

Any advice? Thanks in advance!

The Necromunda Project ( -=]_,=- ) 1:10 Mega Man for something fresh

Another one of my long-term projects is to build a set of Necromunda Terrain that retains the look and style of the card terrain that came in the Necromunda box, supplements, and especially the original Studio Terrain.
Having reached 100 pages in this blog, I have decided to keep the first post updated with (IMHO) milestone WIP shots on this first post as they are reached along this crazy project. I can't call them finished pictures, because I don't forsee an actual end to this project, ever. Even though I may abandon it at different stages along the way ;)

Theirs:

David Gallagher & Richard Wright's Excellent graphic artwork on the original printed game components and plastic bulkheads has always fascinated me and I have longed to remake them in 3D.

The original Studio terrain that were used in the GW publications was the catalyst that started my learning to build terrain all those years ago, and it still inspires me so much that I said "I can do that". This blog contains the evidence, you be the judge as to whether I can or not.

Mine:

The Blog is growing, but they are Vik's followers (He is a Cult Leader)
Nuka Cola Machine

Other photos

Sometimes, I take breaks from terrain, and This blog tends to go OT when I rotate hobbies. I ususally play video games for awhile, then I work on another long-term gaming project

I am -planning a LEGO Zombie Apocalypse game with LEGO, so my blog might go OT a bit from time to time.

But fear not, it will only last a while, and then I get back into terrain.
This is just part of my process, and it always has been. Sort of a controlled ADD I think.

Historic WIP blog starts here.
For this piece, a fitting use of some Necromunda Bulheads.
How do lesser opponents feasibly beat SM in combat?

While Orks have strength enough to potentially get through power armour, and Eldar have speed and skill to take down an armoured marine, how do enemies like Guardsmen or Tau fight them in close combat? I know that these troops aren't meant to fight up close, but considering marines can be rather keen to engage in hand to hand fighting, and the incompetence or callousness of some IG commanders can lead to infantry waves charging with bayonets, how can they possibly fight, or is there no hope for these guys?

Each game puts you in the enviable position of being a horrid, tentacle flailing, slime oozing monster from outer space. Cleverly disguised (of course) as an adorable, and newly enrolled student at Takoashi University, an all-girls school nestled in scenic Japan.

Tentacle Bento represents Soda Pop Miniatures first foray into anime themed card games, and we need your help. We are looking for support in getting this product into production, and would be grateful for your sponsorship of this effort.

What’s in the Box?

Each box of Tentacle Bento is planned with 108 game cards, each richly illustrated, a mountain of unique artwork depicting the characters, locations, and sneaky traps laid by the offending aliens.

Artwork
Soda Pop Miniatures has been meticulous about finding a partner that could help us achieve the anime style we were going for. Emulating the dating-sim style of anime art, we found great partners with Groundbreaker Studios. They have been instrumental in helping us envision the students and our university.

Gameplay
Tentacle Bento is easy to learn, and fast to play. As a classic card matching game, players form actions from their hands, combining girls, locations, and snatches. Some combinations will generate special game effects, in-game events shake up play, and character cards will create mayhem when played on your opponents.

Girls, Locations, and Snatches are broken down into essence types or "suits", representing the particular girlish essence the aliens are after, and the locations and traps best suited to catch their quarry. Each of these essence types typifies one of the Pillars of Takoashi University doctrine.

The smart essence type typifies the Takoashi pillar of scholarly exploration. Well-read and inquisitive in nature, smart girls are tenacious and are ever on the edge of discovering the true identities of your clever disguise.

Girl's imbued with the sexy essence come from all walks of life, and in a way reflect the Takoashi pillar of confidence, which seems to come easy to this part of the student body. These girls know what they want, and they know how to get it, a wary alien would be unwise to lower it's/her guard thinking them for an easy snatch.

Takoashi girls are not only cute, they are HARDCORE cute! Representing the pillar of congeniality, cute girls, though frequently lost in their own pursuits are dedicated to their studies, wide-eyed and innocent to the nature of the universe. But an alien will have to lay a clever trap, as these girls are seldom wandering alone, preferring crowds and busy with many extracurricular activities.

The university sports program is one of the best in Japan. Rigorous training, and a hall full of trophies can attest to the victories of their elite athletes. But, no matter how mouth watering the thought, these girls are in peak physical condition, and quite capable of holding their own against the unwanted advances of extra-terrestrial menaces like yourself.

ABOUT US

Soda Pop Miniatures started life in 2009 as a small manufacturer of collectible miniatures for hobbyists. We are still 3 humble guys, friends from college, trying to build a sugar coated empire out of really fun and original properties. We launched our first board game Super Dungeon Explore in 2011 with a lot of great response, and we will breathing some life into one of our miniatures projects this summer with the launch of Relic Knights: Darkspace Calamity. But our foray into games design is deeply hindered by our limited resources, and we are hoping that we can rally our community around our mad ideas and concepts enough to bring them to life.

Visit our growing and vibrant community on Facebook, and on our website. We will be also having a conversation there about these and upcoming games.

If you have any questions about your sponsorship, or our game, please contact us at info@sodapopminiatures.com
First stretch goal announced:
Hello everyone, we are totally funded, and we have 4 weeks to go!
Forgeworld Maximus - The whatever I feel Like building Thread - Let's talk about TITANS, baby....

Ok, so a soldier friend of mine is leaving the base soon and he asked me to build him a reaver titan. Never having done one, not knowing how to do it and dooming my ego and health to four weeks of absolute frustration and hell, I have agreed to build the reaver.

I will be building two at once, one for me as a test and one for him using all the lessons learned from mine. I will build a part, test and fit that piece, determine it's viability then, once I have the part perfected as much as I can, build his copy of that part.

It began with some new tool purchases:

Out with the old, in with the new:

My wife decided I needed these new gadgets and I am so stoked about them. The Dremel workstation and heatgun are gonna be so AWESOME!!!!!!!!!! Thanks, Baby, I love you...

I started on the feet, like I always do. I was able to get a decent scale comparison from some pictures on this and other blogs.

I guestimated the diameter of the whole foot at about 5 or 5.5 inches, the toes at about 1"x1"x7/8". They look just about good to me so I will stick with it.

First foot together, minus a lot of detail, and looking good. The angle between the front toe and the side toes was really hard to get a good idea of so my goal was to make it aesthetic at least if not completely accurate, but they look good, imho, so I made the rest of the toes.

A quick comparison:

And ended up finishing today with two sets of completed feet, again minus a lot of detail.

Tomorrow and Tuesday I expect to complete the legs up to the hips, barring any failures in design, of course. Hopefully By Friday Night Magic I will have two Reavers from the waist down standing to show off at the shop. With a big APOC tourney coming up beginning of December, I am hoping to have them ready with at least one loadout of weapons each. That may be stretching it but I am extremely excited about using my new heat gun and have tons of ideas. Wish me luck!!!! And, as always, looking forward to your input.

Apart from forcing myself to work on my projects more continuously, I'm of course also hoping for lots of C&C.

The content of this blog will be mainly Necromunda related, since I'm currently the head of a heavily narrative Necromunda campaign. Our group consists of four people at the moment and I will try to show you some pics of all gangs involved, which means at least 4 gangs plus NPCs.
In addition there might be a truckload of scenery pics coming up, since we are currently working on a HUGE project to build a bigger, better, more appropriate gaming table for our Nec games.

The first bunch of pictures will show the two gangs I'm working on atm, even though they are mostly very, very WIP, since rewriting rules, coming up with stuff for the campaign, building a gaming table and converting and painting two gangs is a bit too much right now.
Since I can't get my hands on a proper camera atm, I'll have to take the pictures with a cheap-ass cam or like this first batch of pics with my cellphone. I hope you'll excuse the rather poor quality, I'll do my best to improve it for future posts.

So much for the usual wall of text, now let pictures do the talking:
(The pics are actually not as bad as they look here, check out my gallery for a closer look.)

As you can see my main gang is a Delaque one. They are called Serpentes Obscvri and I'm aiming for a slightly changed Delaque theme. In our campaign my gang is under contract with a, so far not revealed, but definetly very powerful Master. Therefore I want them to be a little more techy, so I'm choosing tech whenever they get a "choose any skilltable" advance. Of course I also want the miniatures to resemble the slight focus on tech and their slightly superior equipment. Which you can see on the first two pics, showing one of my favorite Gangers, Radius, my two Heavies, Scloppus and Nanus and my extremely WIP Leader, Lacerus.
Scloppus is actually the only one of these four who's ready to be painted. The others need some greenstuffing and some final bits to be attached (Nanus will have goggles and a rebreather and the ammo belt from his backpack to the minigun isn't in place yet. Radius needs GS and his sheathed sword on his right thigh. And Lacerus is supposed to carry a grenade launcher I'm still working on, and the former melter on his right arm will end up being an auto/assault gun.)

These pics show the core of my gang, even though there are still some guys missing, who aren't fully assembled yet, so I didn't want to show them. Most of the gangers aren't converted yet, but I'm planning to when they advance and get the right flavor to deserve the attention. Just like Perpetuus, my favorite ganger, who is currently getting his heavily customized infraredscope-hotshot-sniper-lasgun. Muhaha, I'll show you soon...
As you can see one of the shotgunwielders has a small backpack, which is actually a medikit if you look closer. I like to make the miniatures show as much of their game mechanics as possible, so when he got the medic skill, I added the pack, and will keep on doing so as the guys progress.

Last and also least, two of my juves and a dual-wielding ganger. All slightly converted. Weapon swap on the las pistol hand, which is now magnetized. Mini-conversion to make the stub pistol become the nice little autopistol thingy you can see now. As simple and disregardable as it is, this detail always makes smile. And on the running ganger weapon and head swap, nothing finalized yet. It's freaking hard to find a suitable head for him and I would like him to go double bolt pistol in the end.

So much for today. More to come soon.

Things to expect are: Better, more detailed pics of my Serpentes. Pics of my second gang, which are rebel sulfur miners, based on the FW renegades. Pics of the other two gangs in our campaign, which are a squad of mercenaries sent down from the spire to beat down the revolution and a gang of house ko'iron gladiators who accompany one of the princesses of ko'iron venturing into the underhive.

The End Times.

Chapter One: The Stuff of Nightmares.

Alex's vision was returning, slowly. He could feel most of his body apart from his right arm. Slowly, he looked down only to find his right arm was but a stump. It was then that he noticed the figure in front of him. Before him stood the great Necron, Trazyn the Infinite. The machine's green eyes were staring right through him. It was unnerving but Alex's thoughts were not on the grand, monstrous machine that stood in front of him, but on the Emperor and, more importantly his wife, Rhianne. He thought of what she would do when she learned of his death, would she break down at the news and remain a widow for the rest of her days, or would she forget him and simply move on? Suddenly a series of thumping stomps shook the ground around him, he knew that sound well and it gave him hope, it was a mighty Dreadnought, one of the Emperor's Angels of Death. It was then that Alex faded back into unconsciousness.
-----------
Jaran stood still, surveying the area around it. Through it's sensors it could detect the life signs of a human, A guardsman to be precise. It took a couple of seconds but eventually a file came up on the former Space Marines' screen. It was of one Alexander Chapman, Aged 32, Ranked Sargeant of the Cadian 13th Kasrkin Regiment. Near the Guardsman's body was a Metallic form, A Necron, not just any Necron but an Overlord by the size of it. The Dreadnought raised it's power fist high up before slamming it back down, going through the structures' wall and opening a hole large enough for it's huge armoured frame, it walked through the gap Assault Cannon blazing, cutting down three Necon Warriors that attempted to get in the old, venerable warrior's way, another four Warriors came around a corner but they too met the same fate. The mighty Dreadnought stomped around the corner the Necrons had come from only to find a Lychguard and two Immortals. The Immortals were cut up almost immediately afterwards by the Dreadnought's Assault Cannon but the Lychguard was faster, dodging the shells and razing it's staff to try and destroy Jaran's Assault Cannon. It succeeded partially but couldn't sever the link before Jaran grabbed it with his huge power fist and twisted, grinding the Lychguard to little more than scrap metal. The Dreadnought then slammed into the bulkhead seperating the walking tank from it's objective. The bulkhead came down without much effort, falling to the floor in front of it. Trazyn turned around at that moment and saw that it probably would not succeed in killing Jaran. It then teleported away, leaving the Dreadnought alone with the injured Guardsman.
"Do not worry, Guardsman one of the Emperor's Angels is here. You should get some rest while I find the other members of your unit" said Jaran in as calm a voice as its speakers would allow.
"You have my eternal thanks, my Lord." Replied the Guardsman weakly.
With that the Dreadnought stomped off.

Thank you for reading part one! Check back soon to see part two.

What do you think? It gives me 3 backfield scoring units, 1 outflanking scoring unit, 2 very mobile scoring units (until their rides are done in) and some good order support for my backfield (kitted out CCS) and orders for desperate assaults (e.g. killing LRs early with the melta CCS)

Vatican 'probes priests' (no pun intended):

From BBC News:
Vatican 'probes Legion of Christ priests over child abuse'

The Vatican is reported to be investigating seven priests of the Legion of Christ order in connection with allegations of child abuse.

In a statement to the AP news agency, the Mexican order said seven cases had been referred to the Vatican's department that deals with sex crimes.

The Legion of Christ's founder, Marcial Maciel, sexually abused many boys and young men over a period of 30 years.

He was disciplined by the Vatican in 2006 over the abuse.

One of the cases being investigated in relation to the seven priests is recent, while others date back several decades, the order said in the statement given to AP.

The investigation will be handled by the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith, the Vatican office that investigates allegations of sexual abuse.

While it is under way, the suspects will be kept away from children.

'Immoral acts'
"Over the past few years, in several countries, the major superiors of the Legion of Christ have received some allegations of gravely immoral acts and more serious offences... committed by some legionaries," AP quoted the statement as saying.

The order has previously insisted that Fr Maciel was an isolated case.

The BBC's Alan Johnston in Rome says that if these new allegations are proven it will show that the rot in the order had spread beyond its disgraced leader.

In 2009, the Church launched an investigation into the order after Fr Maciel, who died in 2008, was also revealed to have fathered a daughter by a mistress.

A year later, Pope Benedict XVI appointed an envoy to implement a complete overhaul of the Legion of Christ, saying it had to be "purified".

The previous pope, John Paul II, long held up Fr Maciel as a model to the faithful, despite persistent allegations of sexual abuse, which were later proven.

In recent years, the Church has been rocked by cases of paedophilia by priests, and accusations that it did not do enough to investigate the allegations.
High Elf v Dwarf first game in a good while

First game in a good while, help me out by pointing out any rules errors that I made. Yes, that I made. I was playing myself as a reward for finishing one of my last assignments. That and my brother had to go to uni. Oh well. Its quite small so I’ve included some narrative to it, to make it a bit more interesting (hopefully).

Making passage on the Undgrim hadn’t been easy for an age. Runesmith Bravak trudged along with his clan’s warriors, a screen of thunderers providing a scouting force. Thinking of the reason for this journey, his hand drifted to the pouch at his side. A relic from the War of the Beard, being returned to his clan’s home. Pride in his endeavour infusing him, they approached the major break in the Undgrim. The Runesmith consulted with the veteran of the warrior block as to how they would tackle this obstacle. That the Undgrim had been broken to such an extent that overground passage was required was bad enough, but there had been rumours of elves in the area...
Dwarf 500 point army,
Runesmith W/MRoBalance 120
22 Warriors, Standard Bearer and Veteran, Great Weapons 240
10 thunderers 140

Ethredil’s half closed eyes snapped open. “They are approaching our position” the mage announced to his swordsmaster bodyguards. “I will be with the archers. A hail of arrows before they meet your blades will be all we need to reclaim our ancestor’s prize from these foul bearded things.”
High Elf 500 point army
Mage W/silver wand, talisman of protection. 120. Rolled Throne of Vines and The Dwellers Below
10 Archers, Hawkeye, 125
15 sword masters, full command 255

Deployment
Dwarfs deploy first, drop warriors with runesmith in the open with a clear lane of advance, HE drop swordsmasters opposite, dwarfs drop thunderers on the warrior’s right, and the HE archers drop on the flank beside some woods
High elves then win first turn (even without the +1 for finishing deploying first)

Coming to the lip of the staircase, the Dwarfs saw the elves moving from their hiding places around the valley. Swiftly deploying into formation, they were surprised to see the elves begin advancing before they themselves could move.

High Elves Turn 1
The swordsmasters advance without a sound, blades held ready at their shoulders. Raising his arms, Ethredil began to summon the winds of magic to him. However all he felt was a breath on his soul. He attempted to weave this into an augmenting enchantment, but failed. Bitter with failure, he directed his archers to fire on the dwarfs arrayed below, but not one fell.
Swordmasters move up marching, archers stay still
Roll 2,1 for winds, only 2 power dice, dwarfs have 3 dispell dice, try to cast throne and fail
Archers fire, warriors half hidden, as are thunderers. Choose warriors. Long range and soft cover (from woods) =hit on 5s, 1 hit, 1 wound, warrior saves it.

Dwarf Turn 1
The warrior throng locked shields and advanced. ‘For our ancestors! Remember who we are fighting, one beardless elf isn’t worth one of us dawi!’ The veteran bellowed to his men. The runesmith advanced by his side, preparing to answer any magic thrown at his force. With a roll of thunder their missile troops opened up, felling some of the advancing swordsmen.
Warriors shuffle forwards in case HE swordsmasters get a charge off, thunderers stay still
Thunderers fire at swordsmasters. 6 hits, 6 wounds, 6 dead. And people say don’t take thunderers? Panic passed on an 8

High Elves Turn 2
Misjudging the distance to the enemy, the swordmasters find their charge faltering. Recovering their poise they prepare to advance again. Gasping, Ethredil feels the winds of magic blowing strong, but only of the spells he knew would answer his call, but before he could finish his chanting a booming noise rolled out over the valley. Looking down sharply at the dwarf warrior block, he saw one of the short, bearded things holding a staff half embedded in the ground, and was shocked to notice a grin splitting its hairy face. Telling his archers to fire again, he was infuriated to see that there was no effect
Swordsmasters try long range charge, fail, move forwards 5 (they rolled 7, needed a 8...so close). Archers stay put.
6,5 for winds, mage tries throne, casts on 12 with 3 dice, dwarfs dispel with all (because he is not in range for dwellers)
Archers try to shoot at warriors again. This time they aren’t obscured. 6 hits 0 wounds.

Dwarf Turn 2
Grinning at the success of his rune staff, Bravak gestured his warriors to hold and wait for the results of another volley. As the rounds smashed into the lithe bodies of the elves, the few survivors turned and fled. ‘Ha,’ scoffed Bravak, ‘that’ll teach those tree-lovers.’
Dwarfs hold
One man of the unit was in for short range, so I fired the unit as if they were within short range...right? Or is it a person by person basis? hit 7, 6 wounds. Panic failed on 9. Flee 4”.

High Elves Turn 3
Watching in horror as his bodyguard were scythed down and broken, Ethredil ordered his archers forwards to try and salvage the day. His concentration broken by the loss of his protective detail, he failed to summon the winds of magic to him, or cast any spells. Muttering in frustration, he directed the Hawkeye of the unit to fire at the warriors approaching their position, before watching them emerge from the rain of arrows intact again.
Swordsmasters do not regroup, archers shuffle forwards
Weak magic again, tried to cast dwellers on 2 dice, failed
Hit with 4, 1 wound, saved on 6

Dwarf Turn 3
“Advance,” shouted Bravak, gesturing towards the elves in the distance. His warrior block shouldered their weapons and marched forwards, a song of their ancestors rolling from their lips. Their thunderers followed them forwards, adding their voices to the song.
Everyone marches forwards towards the elves

High Elves Turn 4
Trying to ignore the remnants of his bodyguard continuing their withdrawal, Ethredil gathered the winds of magic to him, using them to call upon the strongest magics he knew. With a shout he threw his spell at the encroaching dwarfs, only to see it dissipate mere metres from them. Fear clenched his heart, a fear not helped by the fact that one of the dwarfs fell, a white fletched arrow through the eye.
Swordsmasters don’t regroup (1,2, dammit!). Archers move forwards to get the mage in range for dwellers
5,4 for winds, casts dwellers on the warrior block with all his dice (because they still have throne so its relatively safe, right?), rolls 27 (no irresistible force, dammit!), dwarf tries to dispel with all his dice, rolls a 26 but two of them are 6’s, so irresistible dispel
Archers hit with 4, 2 wounds, save 1, 1 dies

Dwarf Turn 4
Their feet stamping, the warriors approached, not sparing a glance for their fallen comrade. The thunderers dropped their rifles from their shoulders before rippling a volley into the elf archers, one of them striking the mage in the shoulder. The runesmith saw them wavering, and hoped that the day would be complete without any more deaths in his clan, but set his face as they held the line, hefting his staff in his hands.
Warriors march and get closer
Thunderers hit with 6, wound with 3, take 1 on mage, 2 archers die, pass panic on 8

High Elves Turn 5
Gripping his shoulder, Ethredil staggered back, shocked at the pain and the sight of his own blood. His archers moved with him, leaving the white clad bodies of their fellows face down in the grass. Ethredil was too shocked to conjure his magic, and while his remaining archers downed two of the approaching dwarfs at the close range, he knew it was over. That he had failed.
Archers back up 5”
3,1 for winds. Last ditch, tries to cast dwellers at warriors again, fails to cast on an 8 with 3 dice
Archers fire at warriors again, 3 hits, 3 wounds, 1 saved, 2 dead

Dwarfs Turn 5
With a roar the throng hit the elfish line. Ducking beneath the blows of the elves, Bravak delivered a thunderous blow to the skull an archer, killing him instantly. His clan brothers hacked their foes down with almost contemptuous ease, one falling to the flickering blade of the feather-wearing archer, before that same elf tried to escape with the wounded mage. Before they could escape they were set upon by the warriors, brought down with wide-bladed axes.
Dwarfs make the charge easy (roll 8, needed to roll 5)
Elves hit with 4, no wounds (stand and shoot)
No shooting
Elves strike first, 5 hits, 2 wounds, 1 failed save, 1 dead (both ranks can strike yeah?)
Dwarfs strike back, 7 wounds. Only mage and hawkeye left. Leadership on 8-6-1-2=need 1,1.
Fail Ld, Flee 4,5(9), Dwarfs pursue 5,5(10), catch them despite the -1. Game all done.

Stomping over to the dying elf mage, Bravak blew smoke from his pipe in his face. “You have killed the blood of my blood in this ambush. You and yours will be entered into our book of grudges when we return for this transgression. Not that you will be able to make recompense.” He watched until the light fled from his eyes. With a harrumph and another cloud of smoke, Bravak rejoined his warriors for the final leg of their journey.

IN RETROSPECT;
High Elves - Should’ve deployed the mage with the swordsmasters. I was a) hoping I would be able to cast dwellers at 24” once or twice, but that didn’t happen, the one time I got enough dice I was within range of him with the 12” and b) I didn’t want to eat a great weapon to the face. Perhaps I should’ve kept myself at 30” for a few turns? But hitting on 5s and wounding on 5s with a save to follow isn’t exactly going to win a game...ah well.
Dwarfs – Pretty much everything went according to plan, thunderers were amazing

1750pts - IG: Foot Horde

A bit bored of seeing marines everywhere, thought I'd draw up something different for a 2nd army. New to IG, so any comments are appreciated.

Alright so I redid the list. Having three blobs sounded better, so I went with that. Got rid of Straken and trimmed down the Sentinels. I'm willing to bet about 85% of their targets will be MEQ's or Rhinos/Razorbacks so multi lasers seemed like a better choice over auto cannons with the extra shot. Tossed more power weapons around to the PCS's, and used the last 40 points to give more bling to the CCS's via meltaguns and plasma pistols.

HQ

145pts	Company Command Squad
Regimental Standard
Power Weapon
Plasma Pistol
Meltagun
Lascannon
Astropath

145pts	Company Command Squad
Regimental Standard
Power Weapon
Plasma Pistol
Meltagun
Lascannon
Astropath

ELITES

65pts Marbo

TROOPS

60pts	Platoon Command Squad
Power Weapon
Lascannon
Replace Lasrifles w/ Laspistols x2

135pts Infantry Squad
Base Cost
Commissar
Power Weapon x2 (Commissar and Sergeant)
Meltagun
Lascannon

90pts Infantry Squad
Base Cost
Power Weapon
Meltagun
Lascannon

60pts	Platoon Command Squad
Power Weapon
Lascannon
Replace Lasrifles w/ Laspistols x2

135pts Infantry Squad
Base Cost
Commissar
Power Weapon x2 (Commissar and Sergeant)
Meltagun
Lascannon

90pts Infantry Squad
Base Cost
Power Weapon
Meltagun
Lascannon

60pts	Platoon Command Squad
Power Weapon
Lascannon
Replace Lasrifles w/ Laspistols x2

135pts Infantry Squad
Base Cost
Commissar
Power Weapon x2 (Commissar and Sergeant)
Meltagun
Lascannon

90pts Infantry Squad
Base Cost
Power Weapon
Meltagun
Lascannon

FAST ATTACK

105pts	Scout Sentinel Squadron
Sentinels x3

105pts	Scout Sentinel Squadron
Sentinels x3

105pts	Scout Sentinel Squadron
Sentinels x3

HEAVY SUPPORT

75pts Hydra Flak Tank

75pts Hydra Flak Tank

75pts Hydra Flak Tank
