BEST 20$ i EVER SPENT: The New Washes!!!

I recently bought the new washes set that citadel put out. This the the best package that GW has ever done. The washes gave me that "milked" look that I had tried for years now to perfect but have been unable to. With the stroke of a brush the washes make the models look simply amazing. I cannot believe that they are only 20 bux. I would HIGHLY recommend this product to anyone that wants amazing looking models with minimal effort.

I was never much of a fan of the old inks. I barely used em. I started making my own washes with regular paint + water + acrylic matte medium. I just picked up the wash set today though.. gonna try it out on my plague marines soon as I get my last 2 chosen done.. They had some demo figs on display at the store though, just primed white with the different colored washes on em, looked real good.

I think they're great, now even an new/unskilled painter can really add a lot more depth to their models instead of just doing plain ole solid colors. And for the better painters out there they'll help ya get your stuff done a lot quicker with the same results you might have had for doing it all yourself with blending and layering and stuff.

It's EZ mode.

As for a comparison with other "wash" products, I have used Wonder Wash, and the GW washes are a bit thicker. Very rich color. Get them all, you never know when you'll want the odd colors that don't match your army, and the $20 tag is pretty fair.

I've picked up the washes too. They are great, although a little thick for my methods. I watered them down a bit by filling the bottle up partially with water. Not too much, but a bit. Helped to thin them for more subtle uses. They are great as a quick result for similar to my Iron Giants army. I painted up some guys for that and used the washes to finish off. It worked out great and it was a lot quicker to get the same results. But I took some shortcuts...

I found that if you do standard washing and juices first to get the grimy/dirty/rusty look, then use the citadel washes to finish it they work awesome.

I would recommend the washes as a finishing move for you painters out there who are lazy ............ like me .......

You don't think I'm lazy? the latest Iron Giants I painted I mixed up hospital specimen jars with cheapass paint, water and detergent and then dipped the models in there instead of brushing it on. After about 10 goes each with that, I then did the rest of the work and then finalised the models with the washes.

Lazy.

But bloody effective.

Great pics.

The washes have a very good consistency. I am surprised at how much I use the Devlan Mud (leather and bronze) and Ogryn Flesh. The time saved by not needing to thin inks or mix your own wash is well worth the $20 box and/or $3 apiece.

Re:BEST 20$ i EVER SPENT: The New Washes!!!

I abesolutely love the washes as far as painting goes. Easy to use, great results, good quality. I have found a two large problems with them. First, since they are thinner, it is much harder to notice in your peripheral vision if your brush has paint on it. The second problem, steming from the first, is that they taste terrible, lol.

BEST 20$ i EVER SPENT: The New Washes!!!

I can't agree more, the new washes are simply excellent at actually providing shading.

I was never a fan of the old inks/washes, because of the tide marks they would leave when used on a large area, and the shine they left on the finish. The new washes are much better for shading, and they have a nice consistency which is easy to get to stay where you want it.

I do like my old brown ink, however, and should probably stock up on it before it goes away. The old inks are definitely more concentrated, but I see this as a good think, as the new washes are good for layering effects.

The best thing about the new washes is definitely the matte finish. Well done, GW.
