As for Pegg playing Scotty. I love Simon Pegg, I honestly think he is a great guy (used to work with his Godbrother, and I now know who broke Mr Pegg's Darth Vader...)
But for the love of God....does Hollywood have some kind of aversion to actually hiring a Scottish person when the role calls for a Scottish accent?
