				<title>CMDante - Rogue Trader =I=munda</title>
				<description><![CDATA[ Ok, yet another project here but this ones a small one, single figure (for now anyway!) representing a rogue trader. I've been reading the Ravenor books lately and really wanted to put one together.<br /> <br /> Having a spare <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(312);'>DKoK</span> commissar lying about I decided to use this as the basis. A quick "off with his head" later and some cutting and scraping to remove all of the gas mask and tank and I had the base for my conversion.<br /> <br /> While considering what to use for his head I found a head I had been sculpting a while back so decided to use it. I've given him a tache and goatee, along with earring to make him more rogue traderish. Give him a bionic hand with the sigar/pipe/cigarette in it instead of a normal hand. This way you have that 41st millennium vibe of bionics without having to do the whole "17th century portrait but then with a bionic eye on it" vibe some of <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(50);'>GW</span>'s artwork tends to have.]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ I know what you mean but at the same time, the vast majority of traders mentioned in ravenor were only notable due to their clothing, which will be made extravagant through painting. The hair is something I'm pondering. Considering giving him a Duke Castellan - esque ponytail but not sure yet.<br /> <br /> I like the idea of a pet and am considering doing a cyber mastiff to accompany him on his base. That or some kind of "sheen" monkey similar to one of the illustrations in the =I= rulebook. I think it might work well on his shoulder and accentuate the rogue theme.<br /> <br /> As for the shirt and jacket, I chose the model as a base specifically because I felt these were rogue traderish. Use an Ork body, but give it a human head and use greenstuff to make the clothes/armour look more Imperial. Also some Imperial weapons instead of shoota and choppas.<br /> <br /> For some reason it makes me think of some wrestler pumped up with steroids and such, but then <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(3);'>40k</span> style!]]></description>

I don't know if you could go that detailed, but what about a couple of bionic fingers and a more subtle version of the bionic eye. With this I don't mean a boxy thingie that is sticking out of the guy's skull, but just some greenstuff over just the eye, it would look like some sort of bionic monocle at most.]]></description>

Duke Castelan is "safe" and "reasonable". Even the Pact, in their absolutely superbly executed chaos worshipping form, aren't really crying out for something totally different.<br /> <br /> You've picked a great starting point, your sculpting of faces is way beyond anything anyone else here has posted and you can really paint. 				<description><![CDATA[ @ Migs - I know, I completely agree with you, I am very measured and reasonable, possibly even restrained in my approach. This is largely due to the limits placed upon the time I have for modelling these days. I don't really have the time I would like to be able to experiment much and make mistakes through trial and error so I currently just aim to produce original pieces that don't deviate too far from the norm.<br /> <br /> That being said though, I am happy with what I currently produce, sure it would be fun to go for some really wild conversions, making a Tobias Maxillia style trader, but that would take more time and effort than I can currently spare. I already have plenty of projects that have been put on hold or unattended lately as it is!<img src="/s/i/a/baf5f2e54c6b17d5c5d39aecadfa1272.gif" border="0"><br /> <br /> I also feel that the model I have chosen as a base doesn't lend itself well to extravagant conversion without completely rebuilding it. I liked the coat and shirt as well as the pose though so decided to go with it.<br /> <br /> Perhaps sometime in the future I'll give something really wild a go! <img src="/s/i/a/c944477abc92c1c101da485e07ff06d8.gif" border="0"><br /> <br /> @ Malika - Way ahead of you mate.<img src="/s/i/a/6d3c0a908a3861135dfaebde91c0ecf6.gif" border="0"> Just put the finishing touches on a soulstone on the neckplate thingy.<br /> <br /> I've also been toying with a few other conversion ideas using a couple of other <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(39);'>FW</span> pieces I've had lying around for a while. 				<description><![CDATA[ I really like what you've started here.   <img src="/s/i/a/5d13fa41280d6fdef786d41bc175d3f6.gif" border="0"><br /> <br />  However, I can't help but nit pick and feel that his epaulettes are too militaristic for a Rogue Trader.  <br /> <br /> Maybe they could be removed and some other extravagant detailing applied instead?  Maybe exotic animal fur trim?  A jeweled hem?  Or, baroque style free-hand with an art nouveau inlaid stitching in it?  I dunno, he just needs a more exotic and extravagant look is all.<br /> <br /> EDIT:  What about jeweled spurs and added metal detailing to his boots?  ]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ Love the direction you are going with this.<br /> <br /> I agree that a bionic hand holding the pipe/cigar etc would have been a good way to go.  Adds to the <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(3);'>40k</span> nature of the figure without too much extra work.  Your hand is very well sculpted though. <br /> <br /> If you want to add some more "color" to the coat, you may want to consider turnbacks.  Seems like you could add that without too much chopping.<br /> <br /> If you want to keep the epaulettes, why not add a fur trim?  Makes them more of a fashion statement than a sign of rank<br /> <br /> As for the gorget, you may want to consider adding an imperial eagle's wing to each side of the soul stone.  I guess he does not do much trading with the Eldar then?]]></description>

As always, your input, along with that of everyone else who has posted, means alot and is of great value.<br /> <br /> Ok, so I'm almost ready to start adding the paint to this fella now. I decided to leave the hair as is, I think it fits perfectly with the Clark Gable in "Gone With The Wind" type look I was trying to achieve with this guy.<br /> <br /> The hand, while being an absolute bugger to create, has turned out just like I wanted it too. I initially thought I might be able to get away without using an armature for the fingers but after just managing the thumb, I realised it was going to be even more of a nightmare. Luckily I managed to find some of the thinest wire I've ever seen from the florist wire section of Hobbycraft. Fortunately it was just the right size to base the fingers on and literally not much more, being a <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(39);'>FW</span> model the scale is significantly smaller than regular <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(50);'>GW</span> proportions meaning fingers are half the thickness!<br /> <br /> While I realise this model isn't fitting everyones desires and perceptions of a Rogue Trader, it is fulfilling the look I was wanting. Yes, it would be cool to do a really extravagant <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(115);'>RT</span> with funky bionics and whacky hair and attire but as Migs pointed out, it's not really my natural style. Though there is another log currently on the go there where someone is emulating my blood pact stuff.<br /> <br /> This guy wasn't originally going to get a gang but my head is swimming with ideas for other members of his band (pilot, ganger, navigator, armsman etc) and I already have alot of the bits and pieces I would use to make these figures. The only thing is I don't want to distract myself too much from the blood pact as I intend to have them as an entry for <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(42);'>GD</span>. The legs have been filed down to look more feminine and slender with the feet shaped for the basis of high heels. The idea is to have a long coat hanging off of her shoulders with arms at almost right angles to either side. It's a part of the <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(3);'>40k</span> universe that hasn't previously seen enough attention outside of the realms of the odd 54mm mini so it's really great seeing the innovative ways in which the variety of <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(50);'>GW</span> plastics and <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(39);'>FW</span> resins, along with metals of course, can be altered and combined to produce models that tell more about life in the 41st millenium than any amount of cookie-cutter cadians ever could.<br /> <br /> Not to say there is anything wrong with cadian armies, just that its nice to see other areas explored through modelling.<br /> <br /> More soon!<br /> <br /> Cheers,<br /> <br /> Dante]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ I once wrote a scenario for a now defunct Inquis website (wish I knew where it went as I had some good fictin posted there...) which revolved around a stand-off between <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(272);'>Inq</span> gangs meeting in a busy market place. The idea was to have as many civilians and pack animals dotted around as possible at the start, and then once fighting commenced the crowd would begin to run for the nearest possible cover (potentially blocking line of sight) and animals would get spooked and start stampeding in random directions (potentially trampling <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(272);'>Inq</span> models in the process and also blocking line of sight where appropriate). Its an easy thing to achieve and would work in =I=munda too - simply add a <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(524);'>GM</span> turn in between the player turns where all civilian models move 6" towards the nearest cover and animals move 6" in a random direction. Resolve trampling with, say, a strength 6 hit if an animal comes into base contact with a character model. Jobs a good un!<br /> <br /> To keep on topic - loving the smile girl. Those daemonettes really do lend themselves nicely to human female conversions. Great stuff.]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ Thanks for all the comments guys.<br /> <br /> @ Rahveel - Yep, I know what you mean. The problem actually was that one heel was short and one long. I was trying to see which looked better and have decided to go with the high heel, goes better with the look I'm trying to create.<br /> <br /> Coat wise I'm thinking 3/4 length. As for the pistols, I've decided the metal one is too big, it just doesn't work the more I look at it. I had another of the <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(39);'>FW</span> commissar pistols handy so I've been busy converting it into a left hand pistol. I've also decided to make the pistols more slimline and less military by removing the clip from the bottom. It makes them look much more clandestine and like a civilian weapon rather than navy issue. Pics will follow tonight.<br /> <br /> @ lasgunpacker - I see what you mean but I quite like the fact it doesn't look 100% human, I like to the think that the Abnett is trying to describe a variety of different facial structures in his characters depending upon their birth world. The description of Carthaean's are a good example of what I mean.<br /> <br /> @ MeanGreenStompa - Thanks for the link mate, thats pretty close to the look I had in mind, will help alot when it comes to the sculpting too!<br /> <br /> @ Xanthos - I've decided against the different pistols, I thought a paired set would actually look quite cool and hint at a hidden "gunslinger" type talent which would explain her use to the trader.<br /> <br /> I would love to be able to get my hands on some of those old era plastic weapons again. 				<description><![CDATA[ Thanks for your comments guys, was beginning to worry it was getting real quiet around here!<br /> <br /> Sorry I failed to point out before, the lower legs and feet are just the base stages and not representative in any way of the final shape or bulk. The left leg (raised one) isn't bulked fully yet either, the underside will be getting more mass through the <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(164);'>sag</span> of the trousers etc. It is just easier to do the kneepads before adding the trousers as obviously the straps for them will cause the material to crease and fold around them.<br /> <br /> The boots when sculpted will add more bulk to the feet as I intend them to look quite heavy, sort of military issue. 				<description><![CDATA[ @ Panhead - For some reason I thought he had described them as wearing grey uniforms and black armour but could be wrong.<br /> <br /> They won't be wearing camo, no need for it in boarding actions. At the moment I am thinking either dark blue (navy!) for the fatigues and black plate, or a bluey grey (light) fatigue and black/dark grey green plate. The blandness of these colours will be offset by details such as squad, segmentum, ship etc markings on the armour and fatigues. It should also hopefully make the skin and weapon stand out more too.<br /> <br /> Painting is a wee while off yet though so we'll see how it goes.<br /> <br /> @MeanGreenStompa - Both excellent ideas and will be taken onboard. I had already thought of the "Fido" type character but the accountant is a great idea.<br /> <br /> @Llamahead - Sorry to disappoint. It was never intended to be a peg leg, just part of my sculpting process of bulking out the armature in stages.<br /> <br /> A peg leg, while probably looking badass and fitting with the naval theme, wouldn't have kept with the character I'm trying to develop. I imagine this guy to be highly active and a skillful combatant both armed and unarmed (a bit of a Harlon Nayl type). 				<description><![CDATA[ Phew, well after probably the two busiest weeks of my life, I'm back!<br /> <br /> Moved into the new flat now and got most things sorted, bed - check, painting desk and chair - check, sofa - check, internet - check, 42" 1080pi 100hz hd plasma tv - check!<br /> <br /> So back to modelling. The cloth on the lower left leg still needs the folds defined more shaprly though.<br /> <br /> The arms have also begun to be developed. Still just the armatures at the moment but you can see how the left arm is beginning to have muscle structure laid out. 				<description><![CDATA[ Cheers mate.<br /> <br /> Yeah it does look like the little Domino's ones.<br /> <br /> The right hand with be resting against the pouch, thumb up, fingers clasped around. The arms will have rolled up sleeves (hence the reason I'm bothering to sculpt musculature). The shoulders of the sleeves will have patches designating rank, unit, fleet etc. Designs for these will be taken from "The Gothic and The Eldritch" navy section. 				<description><![CDATA[ Thanks for all the kind words guys, I know it's been said to death but they really, really do help keep motivation up.<br /> <br /> @ tallmantim - Yep, the arm joints will be properly filled, they're a bit empty at the moment while I get them sorted and then I'll work on their final positioning.<br /> <br /> @ Xanthos and grey_death - Cheers lads, I know it can be a bit difficult to see the progress at times but hopefully it's not boring everyone to death seeing every little step.<br /> <br /> @ Smiling Assassin - Ta mate, there used to be only one or two logs I would check in on here but increasingly there are more and more quality projects popping up, particularly the =I=munda ones catch my eye. Dave's log is just something else, the man is a painting machine. He churns out such quality and in such numbers that he really puts us all to shame (particularly me - the big slow coach that I am!). You're going to have the same problem with the arms as with the legs in that they're going to have to be bulked out to a significant proportion to the rest of the body to be believable, but also hardcore.<br /> <br /> Bloody shotguns are a pain to get hold of, but I'm going to pop a few of those Bolter/Lasgun Shotty conversions into i few of my new Cadians, just for the sake. For the S's and the G's.<br /> <br /> Just a few things I think when I look at this model, in terms of just bulking him up aesthetically, mainly along the lines of perhaps some plating for the upper legs? The gun fell a bit on the 2nd and 3rd pics so disregard the pose there. Also, I've decided the hand on the gun is too big so it will be going and being replaced by a sculpted hand.<br /> <br /> I've begun bulking out the shape for the gas mask pack on the back and connected the cable using some guitar wire. I'm glad you added the breaching side shoulderpad -- it just helps with the overall feel of bulk.<br /> <br /> As someone else said, any size comparisons with the Rogue Trader/Renegade? It's just that I keep thinking this is going to be =I= scale. As the original was my first ever fully sculpted head, it looked a bit poor when I came back to it so decided to use the left over head from the armsman.<br /> <br /> Added a chin wig and a ponytail to try and really push the rogue trader theme.<br /> <br /> I decided to leave him with a pretty severe hairdo, short sides long on top, to emphasise the <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(3);'>40k</span> side of things, gothic future and all.<br /> <br /> I think the head is almost done now. I thought about maybe adding some piercings or something but then decided agaisnt it for fear it would make the face cluttered.<br /> <br /> Hopefully get painting on him soon. The paint on it at the moment was just a play about with some thin layers of colour for some ideas, it will be totally different scheme when done though now that I've worked one out!<br /> <br /> Cheers,<br /> <br /> Dante]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ Yep, I tried to do an embroidered effect on the red jacket after seeing JRN do it on one of his mini's. Obviously his looked A LOT better though.<br /> <br /> This model actually drives me nuts. My faces end up as smudgy little flesh colored blotches with MAD EYES...<br /> <br /> Yeh I was also looking forward to seeing the smile girl.<br /> <br /> Just watched Alien Ressurrection again last night - I quite like the crew of the Betty as inspiration for an =I=munda gang - but then I have also been thinking of a Necron Cult based gang... lots of bionics etc. maybe counts as Redeemers.<br /> <br /> Mind you having said that I see a lot of guys doing Tau / Guard auxilliaries and now im thinking a Tau Expansionist gang - goes on "preaching campaigns" to draw border worlds into Tau Space... might have an Ethereal Cast leader, maybe a Tau and <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(69);'>IG</span> heavy and then some human preachers etc.]]></description>

I liked the concept but the model started annoying me a bit. I think there is a lot I would change if I went back to re-do her now. The only thing I'm always wary of with necro and =I=munda gangs is having really obvious movie type casts, such as "the bad ass weapon guy" (think Blaine in predator, the black guy in Alien Res. etc), "the silent assassin", "the crippled doctor" etc etc. I prefer groups to have more detailed and in depth character. Afterall, part of the fun of working on figures as individual characters is trying to convey their personality through their pose, equipment etc.<br /> <br /> At the same time though, movie type cast gangs can be a fun change of pace! <img src="/s/i/a/baf5f2e54c6b17d5c5d39aecadfa1272.gif" border="0"><br /> <br /> More soon.<br /> <br /> Cheers,<br /> <br /> Dante<br /> ]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ Inspired by IceSword (Warseer) and his Victrix Napoleonic French conversions, I decided to get a box myself to convert up a new Rogue Trader. Something about the last one I was working on was just bugging me and when I saw the Victrix kit in Ice's log, I knew the parts were perfect.<br /> <br /> The one problem though with the Victrix plastics is the fact they are noticeably smaller and thinner than <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(50);'>GW</span> figures. Therefore, I have decided to do some significant <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(47);'>GS</span> work to bulk up the figure and make him taller. On all the bladed ends, whatever they coat the metal with had burrs on the edges which made them almost completely useless.
