A pet peeve of mine is strangers touching my models without asking. I've only had one kid grab one of my models while playing a game at a store, and I immediately saw red. I calmly asked him to put it down. However, I spend a lot of time removing flash, basing, converting, and painting a lot of my models. I know this is a joke, but...

My Dakka Dakka’s Pet Peeve is when a member in the middle of a thread complains about a previous poster’s spelling and/or grammar, but saying nothing about the topic, just the rant. Never noticing the fact the person could be under age and hasn’t been taught or that the person is from another country that their primary language or even their secondary language isn’t English. Makes me think about the people that visit a foreign country and believe if they speak very loud and repeat themselves many times, maybe the person will eventually understand English.

If I find a post that is a train wreak and difficult to read, I stop reading it and move on to the next topic. Remember people, Dakka’s Rule number one is be polite, Ranting for three paragraphs on how much smarter you are on reading and writing English is not we are here to read about. If we want to get more people playing tabletop games, we need to welcome the new people, help them accordingly, correct them on spelling, math or what ever and not make a big deal about it. Then answer their questions that they came to Dakka in the first place.

I know its not a big deal but its not that hard to change the K to a C and be right in proppa... especially since theres been a few occasions where Ive seen people do it and then in another thread they get down on people for bad grammer/spellings...

Sorry, but I do not buy into it. I fail to see how painting 5-6 layers of red over black is any more "proper" than painting 1 transitional colour onto black (such as tan), then a layer of red perhaps followed by a wash or highlight.

As far as I am concerned, any technique which gets painted armies onto the tabletop is a valid one. I have seen too many people walk away from armies half done because they were told the GW way to paint was the only proper method. I am not trying to invalidate their way, but being told my way is improper, I wasn't aware there was a rulebook for painting.

Then again, maybe I am just a cranky !

It's called "Slow-rolling" and it's just -barely- above cheating. Basically it's used by the guys that're too scared of being caught with rigged dice. People do it because they're more likely to get good rolls when they roll dice 1 or 2 at a time. Yeah... there isn't anything too terribly wrong with that as long as they're fast about it. When rolling saves for differently equipped models, I always roll them one batch at a time to keep from getting confused as to whether the green dice is for a flamer guy or the Captain. Anyone who cannot concede they were beaten without a lame and possibly insane excuse... I've had everything from "The sun was in my eyes and I wasn't paying enough attention to the game", "those kids at that table four tables away are too noisey" etc. right through to "My Girlfriend dumped me"

I'm not insensitive and if your GF dumped you thats fine as an excuse for not really focusing on the game BUT... "You only won because..." excuses drive me nuts... I'm not a strong player, couple this with a complete disregard to whether I win or lose and appalling bad luck sometimes (One gaming group had a rule where I was not allowed to touch anyones dice lest I cursed them and I've held several records for improbable numbers of ones both in a row and all at once... I mean seriousely, it should not be possible to roll 30 to hits needing a 5 or a 6 and not making one...) so being beaten by me is a very rare event... being told that it only happened because you ate something that gave you gas... Not fair...

I actually really enjoy people like this... I'll not go into details as I'm sure there are all sorts of impressionable young minds on here but suffice to say I'm extremely weird and strange and make no excuses for it... I've always been open about things and encourage everyone else to be too... Theres something fantastic about the double take some very "normal" people do in public when they recognise me and realise why...

Well...they are, but that doesn't mean everyone that plays in tournaments is a douchebag. It's undeniable though that when there's a cash prize involved some people will try and pull some shit to win it.

Which is probably my biggest pet peeve, people who knowingly bend and break the rules if they think they can get away with it. But the [i]biggest[/i] one is people who touch other peoples models without permission.

1: I hate it when a physics discussion takes over the thread. For example, in another site, someone had modelled a Broadside Battlesuit to look like it was firing a Railgun like a sniper rifle: the very next post was along the lines of "include some recoil into the design", with next posts discussing wherever Railguns fire solid projectiles and would therefore produce adequate recoil.

2: When people get too into the fluff. There's someone on Bolter and Chainsword who posted an idea of a Grey Knight Warhound, and someone criticised his idea, discussing the "ethical reasons of deploying a GK Titan, where a daemonic incursion would provide enough reason for Titan deployment..." etc. The same person blasted the idea of a Thunderhawk Squadron, as they thought Thunderhawks wouldn't be used in a Strike Force, as they would use their bombs to clear landing sites etc. These people need to come back to reality and just enjoy the hobby.

3: GW put articles on "Painting Space Marines" into every other issue of White Dwarf. Last week, I took a random selection of White Dwarfs, just for a quiet read. Out of about 8, there were about 4-5 with almost the exact same article on Painting Marines. Has GW finally ran out of ideas and are just trying to pad out the mag a bit?

On Dakka: YMDC threads where one camp makes it their mission to point out inconsistencies in RAW (wargear X doesn't work etc.) while the other camp complains based on fluff/RAI. If one of my mates makes a dumb comment, I will tear him limb-from-limb for it. I know it makes me a pretty poor friend, but I do it all with a smile on my face and my friends know I'm doing it purely to get a rise from them, not to be mean.

I appreciate that doing this to strangers is often very, very mean. This guy did [i]not[/i] look like he could take it. All I could muster was an incredibly smug look and "Yeah but you're not going to, are you?"
I then turned to my two buddies, whos eyes lit up expecting me to rinse this guy out, and I just said "Can we go now, This guy's getting on my nerves."
