Your 2 units of unmounted WB's don't seem mobile enough to be effective assaulting. Maybe make them shooty instead? Change the meltagun to something else, add a plasma gun. Maybe just cut down on one squad and mount the other? Who's the bloodthirster going to pop? I always like demonic chains...

Thanks for the suggestions.

I'm a big fan of using fluffy numbers wherever possible, but are 6 Daemonettes actually enough to be useful? There will be 3 squads of them in this case, but they may not all come out together or at the same time. Not criticizing, just wondering.

RE: 1750 Word Bearers list

I also play Word Bearers and have run a similar list.

Overall, I think this list is a very good starting point that only needs some tweaks. Here are my recommendations.

I?ve played a Bloodthirster in my Word Bearers army to great success. Just point him at the most expensive unit and watch your opponent cringe! If you want the BT, I would get rid of the Dark Apostle. No, it?s not as fluffy, but then every single WB army in existence doesn?t have to be led by a DA.

<?

I would say 6 packs of Daemonettes are still worth fielding because sometimes all you want them to do is hide so for 90 pts, that?s a great investment. Also, more daemon packs make for more reliable summoning. Of course, almost any amount of fire will destroy them. If you want more speed go for 2x6 Daemonettes and 6 Furies. These are fragile squads but the Deamonettes are still lethal and the Furies are there for tying up heavy weapons units or stealing objectives. I'd say this mix will win you more games as the Furies complement the Daemonettes and Bloodletters well.

I wouldn?t field a Rhino. Your Defiler has Indirect Fire so it will be hidden which leaves the Rhino as the only vehicle. It will likely get destroyed very quickly. I recommend giving this squad Infiltrate and making the Champ the DaemonHost. Give him Daemon Chains and no other upgrades.

I would give one other squad of marines Infiltrate to help position for daemon summoning.

A lot of people like 2 Obliterators because of the even number. I always field three. This way they throw out serious firepower and can lose one guy and still be a serious threat. I see two as okay if you don?t want to rely on them for firepower. If you just kill one in a two man unit they are neutered in my opinion.

I?m not a big fan of Defilers, but if you like it go for it.

I think you should have some points left over from the DA. I would get three bikes with two special weapons. (I like plasma) These guys are 125pts and are great for stealing objectives late in the game or pushing forward on turn 1 for summoning. They add a nice element of speed and surprise to your list, but you must play them cautiously (easier said than done!).

Absolutely field 2x special weapons in each squad (or 1 special and 1 heavy). I?d give the non-Daemonhost Champs BP/Powerfists.

I?ve run a list similar to yours with the recommended changes and it will do well against all armies. The Bikes will add speed as will the Infiltrate (when available). If you go with Furies, you will actually have a fast army! The marines will hold objectives and lay down support fire for the daemons. The Obliterators and Defiler will hammer from a distance. Your biggest weakness is likely hoardes. You should win the overwhelming majority of your games vs. marines.

Have Fun!

Gorthrax

RE: 1750 Word Bearers list

This force does not appear to be dedicated to a specific god, so why would you say '6' is a fluffy number for daemonetts? The only place the numbers make any difference is to determine if a unit is favored to get the free AC upgrade. I would NOT use a unit of only 6. They are too weak and are better in numbers. If you only have 6, they will get knocked down to 1/2 strenght pretty quick.

Two units on foot isn't that slow. I use plenty of Marines on foot and usually don't have a problem. Just keep them moving. Anyway I'd rather be walking now than stuck in the Rhino deathtrap. As soon as the Rhino gets popped, then they are entangled and can't move at all for a turn.

Upon further review of the list, I agree that you should drop 1 Oblit. I would spend the points to fill out each of the daemon squads to 10. If you want fluff, then use the daemons. Don't waste your time with small (6) squads of daemons that, because of their unit size, will be easier to dispatch, easy to knock below 1/2 strength, and will have a hard time holding objectives/quarters.

RE: 1750 Word Bearers list

I wouldn't use 6 strong Demonette squads. Kill two and your making a LD8 instability roll. If you roll like I do, you will quickly lose the rest of your Demonettes.

I'd think to take at least one unit of a fast moving demonic unit; Furies or Demonettes on Steeds. The Steeds are more expensive, but I've had really great luck with them. They can and will tie up the shooty units and block LOS for other shooting units. This will help your slower units get in w/o getting shot up.

I don't think anyone would lower your army comp score by not using sacred numbers. It is a Word Bearer army and they don't really care about that. I'd be more focused on whether or not you are fielding a Dark Apostle if I was really looking to see if your army fits the 'fluff' (IE: great example of how a Word Bearers army should look like for RTT scoring). The army is VERY flexible and allows you to paint a lot of different types of units b/c of the demons you can field.

The Defiler and Oblits are fine in the army.

Good luck building it.
