"Mrnecron's" necron tactics

Necron tactica

In my opinion I think the necrons are the simplest army in the Warhammer 40k universe, however, it's easily one of the best. With the rumour of a new codex coming out for the necrons containing at least a few bits of wargear, (necron players rejoice!) I became really excited. Please note that i am only saying tactics on the models I use as I have no experience with some models.

The one and only tactic!

As you will read or watch on all other threads and videos about necrons based on tactics they will probably cry out necron warriors as they are the cheapest choice to prevent phase out. They are also extremely good at pretty much everything! They can blast skimmers away and disable apocalyptic vehicles. They are pretty much the same as bolters which are very good and anything with the necron rule gets the we'll be back rule, (enhanced by a the resurrection orb, (see war gear,)) so they are as survivable as an army of deadly nurgle marines.

Army!

HQ

Necron Lord.

This HQ option is the most customizable necron in the game. Letting you choose between a ranged weapon and a deadly CC weapon he can do what you like depending on the army. You can also give him up to 100 points of special war gear e.g. Veil of darkness which lets you teleport anywhere on the battlefield with anyone 6" around you using the deep strike rule etc. I normally give him a destroyer body, (jet bike equivalent,) and rush him around with some destroyers to keep them alive.

The Nightbringer.

Personally I prefer him to his brother, the deceiver because he rips apart anyone at long range and can easily annihilate anything at hth. I normally put him behind my monolith so he can shoot his special attack under it and he an also get into combat without getting hurt by his foes. There are two main bad things about him! 1) He is a monstrous creature and looks terrifying on the battlefield so all the enemy will think about is shooting him at long range. Some people may think of him as a worth while distraction, however that brings me on to my second point. 2) He is very very expensive. At 360 points he is a killing machine but that is 360 points you could be spending on about 20 necron warriors which actually count towards your phase out. This is why i would only recommend him on an army of at least 1500 points.

The Deceiver.

What can I say... I don't really use him that much but when i do, he annoys the opponent to hell! The only thing i would say is if you are not using the nightbringer, use the deceiver!

Troops

Necron warriors

Your only troop choice, how sad... But what the necrons lose in selection they make up for in a hell of a lot of awesomeness. As I said earlier the necron can destroy anything and they are the cheapest thing to prevent phase out. I normally put these with a necron lord with a veil of darkness and get them within rapid fire range of their target in turn 1!

Fast attack

Scarabs

This unit I feel is incredibly underrated. They can tie up enemy shooty units for a whole game sometimes and making them useless. I normally take two squads of 5 and assault two different units. That is 15 wounds per squad so it will take a while to kill them. Also they move like jet bikes so they can turbo boost giving them a 3+ cover save and they are swarms which always adds 1 to their cover save. So when they turbo boost they are as survivable as some termies.

Destroyers

This is one of the only very mobile units in the game. They can move 12" and still fire 3 strength 6 shots each at a 36' range. How can you tell me that's not good! I normally pack these guys up with a destroyer lord and some scarabs to ake the a very durable unit!

Wraiths

This unit and flayed ones are pretty much the only ones to deliver hth killings. They move like jet bikes and they will kill in turn two. The only downside is that they are very expensive, and the unit size is small enough that they are easy to wipe-out, and may not get to roll WBB.

Elites

Immortals

These are a very good unit choice for a battle. But i haven't got any for the obvious reason that you will realize straight away when you visit the gw website! They are £8 ****** per model. That means £80 for a ten man squad! You could buy two monoliths with that money! If you are rich then they are a good choice but if you have a certain amount of money to spend then you will probably have better things to spend it on than a ten man squad.

Flayed ones

I think what makes this unit awesome is all the special rules they have e.g. Infiltrate and deepstrike etc. This means they will get into the fight fast and out of the fight fast. They will muller anyone. I dont play these units because I am a mostly shooty player as i leave all my assaulting to my gorechildren, (chaos.) Therefore I can not say much else about them.

Heavy support

Heavy destroyers

This unit is the obvious choice for bringing down quickly and efficiently heavily armored tanks. All gauss weapons can glance a tank and maybe immobilize it or destroy a few weapons but it wouldn't outright destroy it, (with the exception of skimmers.) A strength 9 gun would easily take down the side armor of a standard marine vehicle.

Monolith

Ahhh the monolith... What can I say... Well it is the only vehicle choice in the necron army, (with the exception of the super monolith,( very imaginative!) in apocalypse.) It's pie plate is extremely powerful and would take down a squad of termies with ease. It has d6 strength 5 hits at everyone within 12". It can also use its lovely little portal to summon necrons from reserve. This model is a skimmer however it can not move the normal 12" but it does not become wrecked when it is a immobilized. I use this to eliminate squads and hide the deadly ctan.

I hope this helps you necron players out there! Please comment!
