There was a brief moment where I considered getting a platoon of these guys, as Valhallans are one of the regiments (along with Catachan and Steel Legion) that I never got back when they were first released.
Then I remembered what a pain in the ass it is to build those metal heavy weapon teams, specifically the Autocannon and Heavy Bolter teams. And they're missing the Lascannon team.
So no. I'll go and buy... another Hive Tyrant instead.

Better models, from a more sophisticated time, but also metal, so no thanks.

Interestingly, the platoon works out to be roughly the same price as buying the equivalent in plastic cadians + 1 commander (i.e - Creed)!
The platoon is actually not a bad deal, seeing has the heavy weapon teams are roughly half the price on their own.

I'll get a squad of infantry. The other stuff is too expensive, even though I always really wanted that flamer. And those really dirty Chimeras in white with the brown weathering that's kinda cartoonish, but cool for the oldhammer vibe.

Wow $40 for old Yarrick, $40 for a platoon with no specials or heavies, they're really pushing what they can charge.
It's like they don't know ebay exists.

I'm tempted. I thing most of the models hold up, and the platoon is a fair price (although no lascannons!). The special weapons seem to to be at a premium though. I can leave old Yarrick though.

It can't be that long ago that they priced the Made-to-Order figures at something fairly close to the original prices (i.e. from before they went OOP), rather than these vastly inflated pricetags.
Much as I like some of the older sculpts, the prices of the recent Made-to-Order waves have been very hard to justify.

The comm link is a vox caster. The vox caster terminology was taken on after, I believe, Dan Abnett's Gaunt's Ghosts stories made the term popular.
I know it's a finger slip but now I want to see a fox caster followed by a badger catapult!

I must admit that despite not wanting to support recasters, with the Praetorians I've picked up on eBay, I'd have to be a fool to believe I don't have any in the collection.

It's easy to tell though, if the resin is good quality, you got an illegal recast

I think he's referring to metal Valhallans.
I'm not a big Forgeworld buyer but, judging by comments from others, your point is valid. It's why I'm still undecided about the Gorgon although it's out of stock again at present.

This nearly tested my "buy nothing in 2020" resolution. I love old metal Guardsmen.
But the prices are just a rip off. 25 quid would be okay for a squad that came with special and heavy weapons, not for 9 lasguns and a sarge. 15 pounds for one mortar is daylight robbery.

Was actually somewhat interested in the old Yarrick, but not $70AUD interested.
They photoshopped him onto that brown base, and into the New & Exclusive banner shot too. You'd think for the asking price they'd be able to afford a bit more effort.

I think that's about where the weapon teams were when they went off sale.
I'm on the fence about the platoon, but I don't think I'll pick up any of the individual elements outside of that.

For those crying about the price, what have you been smoking?
£25 for 10 guardsmen, which is £5 more than the plastic cadian kit.
You can also (very surprisingly) get a solid discount by grabbing the platoon.
eBay is not (was not anyway) cheaper to pick them up at all.
Basic valhallans ran £3-4 per model, which pushes them as more expensive than now.
The weapons teams are on the pricy side, but the platoon drops that cost dramatically.
I’m sorry though, I guess people were expecting original release prices for some reason?
Because GW has never increased the cost in the past.
Yes, they are more expensive than when they came out countless years ago.
Yes, buying parts separate is slightly more than the plastic kits.
Buying it as a platoon lowers this to the same or less than the plastic sets however.
But by far, they are cheaper than eBay.
They also have the guarantee of being smoke, damage, paint and glue free.
Something eBay can’t offer consistently.
Given that most people happily pay £35-40 for a 10 man unit these days I really don’t see the issue.
Before anyone cries that they are mono pose models and should be less, take a look at current mono pose sets, it’s hardly the case.
People now are spoilt with plastic kits and expect the world.
It’s simple though.
If you don’t like them, don’t buy them.

32.50 for classic Commissar Yarrick, or 20€ for his newer sculpt? Tough choice there. You can get him for half that on ebay, though you will need to strip some paint and in all likelihood, replace his banner pole.

Jackal90, you really need to calm down. Nobody is crying about the models, just commenting on the value proposition.
And it is simple: I am not gonna buy them.
Comparing them to the Cadian box is misleading, as that comes with special weapons and so on.
I was hoping it would be like the original box, which was a full squad with a special weapon and a heavy weapons team. If it was slightly more expensive and contained that stuff, I would find it good value. As is, I have to pay around 50 sterling for that and I am not interested. Nothing mind blowing about that.

The old box was fixed to 6 troops, a flamer, sgt and mortar team.
If it released like that again, people would complain they are sub par options.
Also, by getting the old set you don’t actually have useable options there.
8 man unit plus 1 heavy weapon team isn’t good to anyone.
So by making it as the old one was made, people would be paying slightly more for a set they couldn’t really use without buying more.
I’d assume it was separated as it has been so they are viable options now.
And I am calm, it just makes me laugh that some people really are never happy with anything.
GW could announce they are halving the price of these valhallans and some would still have an issue.

I agree. Looking at that £75 platoon it doesn't look all that different to a start collecting box of modern stuff, and it's made from metal to order. Not something that would interest me, but certainly doesn't seem like a wild new low for GW. Seems very much business as usual tbh. In fact I'd bet my left nut that people have paid well more than double that for the same amount from ebay in the years that they've been unavailable.
