More About Dakka

DakkaDakka - Warhammer, 40k, Warmachine and Flames of War Community.

DakkaDakka is a large, independent wargaming community that features discussion, tutorials and images for many games.

Warhammer 40,000

Our warhammer 40k forums are among our most popular. They have been operating the longest and contain discussion about every facet of warhammer 40k from tactics and army lists to background and upcoming releases.

Warhammer Fantasy

The Warhammer Fantasy Battle Forums are consistently increasing in popularity and are almost on a par with our 40k forums covering the same large range of content with advice from some of the best tacticians the world has to offer.

Warmachine and Hordes

Dakka now has one of the largest Warmachine and Hordes forums on the web, and has a huge range of Warmachine Pictures in our gallery.

Flames of War

Flames of War and other historical games are growing in popularity here on dakka and we invite anyone to join in and discuss them in detail. As flames of war grows more popular, Dakka's coverage will only increase. Be sure to check out the Flames of War gallery to see some inspiring stuff.

Dakka Features

Dakka is a big site with a lot to explore. Here we highlight some of our more interesting features:

Wargaming Gallery

The dakka gallery is one of the largest wargaming galleries in the world and has a huge range of tagged miniatures from many game systems. From flames of war to babylon 5, and of course 40k. You can vote on images (like using hot-or-not), and use our advanced gallery search engine to find exactly what you are looking for, be it space marines, orks, cryx or Dark Elves!

The dakka forums are growing faster and faster and are the bread and butter of the website. They still maintain quality and a fair level of freedom compared to many other forums. Our most popular forum is News and Rumours, but Dakka Discussions and 40k army lists are very popular too. There are some important rules to consider (no spam, no swearing, no piracy) but everybody gets on well enough thanks to our great moderation team.

The dakka wargaming articles are run on a wiki (like wikipedia). We have a huge range of wargaming articles covering everything from tactica to modeling and painting and even some great funny stuff. If you are bored and want to have the equivalent of dozens of magazines to read then head over to the main articles page and start clicking around. Because it is a wiki, anybody can hop in and click the 'edit' tab at the top of the page, so if you have anything to add or just see some typos or bad grammar then you can help make it better for everyone.

Army Profiles

Dakka's army profiles are a throwback to the very earliest version of dakka from the late 1990s, where various armies were highlighted in detail. Our army profiles section now contains many armies from different game systems with in depth photographs, army lists and explanations of their signifigance from their owners.

Dakka Forum: Fall Back in 8th edition

Forum post by Mchaagen, 46 responses at time of this post.

A rules proposal to change Fall Back;

Units can attempt to pursue enemy units attempting to Fall Back. Both players roll off when a unit that is attempting to Fall Back is pursued. If the pursuing players' score is equal or higher the unit attempting to Fall Back is caught. Roll a D6 for a unit that has been caught, on a 1 nothing, on a 2-6 it suffers D3 mortal wounds . If a pursuing unit is caught, both units stay in place. If a unit is not caught it may move its movement distance with the normal restrictions.

Additional rules change; 'Tank' (non-flyer, non-walker) units may still fire at a reduced BS if within 1" of an enemy.

Would this work?

Updated to incorporate additional feedback.

Dakka Forum: Labyrinth of the Necrons, new standalone game from GW

Don't have much yet, just two shots from someones twitter, but looks like necrons vs. Salamanders(?)

The money shot as it were the other is just showing off an overlord. http://i.4cdn.org/tg/1518908418455.jpg

Since we got the leak, I imagine we'll see more info on it in the next few days. The cards match the models shown, 4 warriors, 2 immortals, 1 lychguard and 1 overlord. The marine on the cover is in green armor, with a flamer and a lizard scale loin cloth, so salamanders seems confirmed. The cover also includes a wraith but we don't see a card for that, so i suspect we are only seeing a little of what's contained.

Dakka Forum: Scratchbuilding Dark Heresy, IG Vehicles and the Pre-Heresy Imperial Fists

Forum post by Eddtheman, 46 responses at time of this post.

Hey All, After seeing some of the Great Scratchbuilding threads on here, especially JohnnyHell's Praetorians, I deciced to jump back into scratchbuilding. I've been converting my own models for years- I got into the hobby through scale models and most of my enjoyment of the hobby comes from the modelling and painting side. I'm hoping I can use this space to organize tutorials, track my progress and get feedback from all of you.

While not a WiP, I'll start off with My largest Scratchbuild to date, a Stormbird Variant for our Dark Heresy campaigns. It has a removable upper level and engine compartment for access to all levels of the Flyer. It weighs about 8 pounds, so it's not usable in games of 40k, but its perfect for our RPG campaigns. I started with the Patoroch Thunderhawk plans, but I widened the model and changed the rear compartment to accommodate vehicles.

I'm currently working on a Mordian Guard army and it needs tanks. I;m not a fan of the stock guard vehicles and wanted units that better fit the 1810s-1880s aesthetic of the mordians. I'm also a big fan of interwar era vehicles, and used vehicles from that period as inspiration.

The Hexium Pattern Leman Russ was my first attempt at an IG vehicle. I've dreaded the monotony of having to apply rivets and building tracks is not my idea of fun. My plan was to cast this model once finished, and rivets and tracks are a lot easier when I only have to build one, rathe...

Dakka Forum: The worst possible list for your faction

Posted: 2018-02-18 13:59:07
Forum post by koooaei, 84 responses at time of this post.

Hey there. Imagine you're about to play a game where you and your opponent are tasked to create the weakest list possible to pit them against one another. The thing is that you'll have to swap the armies and try to win with what crappy stuff your opponent has brought against your own crappy stuff! What's the worst possible list you could create for your faction? Here are a couple rules:

1. It must be a 2000 pt list. Try to get as close to 2000 as you can (just don't bother with getting exactly 2000 - a few points over or under is ok).
2. It must be a mono-faction list, no soups.
3. It must be a single Batallion Detachment.
4. Don't take multiples of the same unit unless you can't fill the Batallion FOC to do so, for example, if your faction only has 1 troop choice and you must take 3 for batallion, take multiples of this unit. If you have 2 troop choices, pick 2 of one unit and 1 of another.

Here's an example for my faction:

Orks 1999 points

Big Mek - Selections: Killsaw, Shokk Attack Gun
Big Mek in Mega Armour - Selections: Killsaw, Power Klaw, Tellyport Blasta

Boyz - Selections: 10x Ork Boy W/ Slugga & Choppa
Gretchin - Selections: 40x Gretchin
Gretchin - Selections: 40x Gretchin

Wazbom Blastajet - Selections: 2x Wazbom Mega-Kannons, Smasha Gun, Stikkbomb Flinga

Burna Boyz - 14x Burna Boy, Spanner - Selections: Killsaw, Kombi-Rokkit
Mek - Selections: Killsaw, Kombi-Rokkit
Nobz - Selections: 3x Cybork Body, 15 Nobz - Selections: 15 Killsaw, 12 Kombi-Shootas, 3 Kombi-Rokkit

Fast Attack
Deff Kopta - 5 Deff Kopta - Selections: 5 Bigbomm, 5 Killsaw, 5 Kopta Rokkits

There are no ld buffs in there and without huge blobs of boyz, those infantry units will melt like butter. Everything is footslogging and pretty slow with no charge after advance and teleport, however, there are koptas, they are fast but super expe...
