I've got something like 3250 points of unpainted skaven at this moment. I rarely play, something like 1 game out of every 100 table top games I play is fantasy. I love my skaven, but only for their fluff. I enjoy reading the book, I enjoy talking about them, but playing them? Playing fantasy for that matter, I see to dislike. I feel like the only reason I keep playing is the magic phase, and to watch which of my models explodes in skaven fashion.

I own just my rats, plus the mini-rule book and the collectors rulebook. I find myself looking around at the 40k games going on around me when I play fantasy. I don't even look at the fantasy boxes in my FLGS. At this point, I really feel like I should off my skaven, and seeing as I don't even have a way to transport them, even though I have movement trays for everything, I own no way to move them around like my 40k bags.

So just a quick poll, wondering what you would do in this situation. I'm teetering around shelving or selling the models. With the rest, I'm not so sure.

Your opinions are welcome.

If you aren't doing anything with them, I personally would shift it. I imagine having 3000+ points of grey plastic is very distracting from starting a new project.

Of course there's nothing wrong with owning stuff purely because you know you're going enjoy painting it at some point, but with respect, it doesn't sound like you're going to do this either

Stick the system you enjoy and perhaps keep the books if you enjoy reading them.

Keep it all. Times change, friends change - in a few years you might find people playing other games where you can use the figures or 9th ed will come out (and maybe it won't suck) & you can get back to playing.

You've already put the cash into the army, best you'll get back is 50 cents on the dollar.

Poll results are hilarious, and likely not helpful. Lol

Long ago, I lost all interest in Gorkamorka. I swore at the time I would never play another GW game. I could have stuck all my stuff in a box, but decided to get rid of it. Somewhere between 10 and 15 years later (today), I consider all the minis I could be using now in my 40k Orks army... And wish I'd kept them.

I learned that just like burning any bridge, I could have always tossed them later. But I can't get them back without significant expense and effort (more than storing a box would have been).

You do have to be careful to not horde everything, of course. But IMHO GW minis are worth hanging on to, especially because you are only going a short distance... To 40k. You'll still be in and around GW, so you'll be able to know if future changes are imminent that could suck you back in.

My major exception to keeping would be selling them cheap to a noob to help them get started. Then if you decide to restart, you know at least they went to a good cause. If you are more mercenary and a bit of moneys is good, then that works, too. But keep in kind you will not get new-on-sprue prices most likely.

Keep the models. This may just be a phase and you never know when you want them back and when you do its nice to have em at hand.

Ppl keep referring to it "may be a phase", but how long have you had the Skaven and NOT played them? If it's been like a year or 2, then it may be a phase. If it's been 4+ years, then I'd sell them.

Of course, it also depends on your own priorities and needs. Need money? Need extra room? Don't like having unused things around the house? You think there's any chance you'll get in to Fantasy (edition changes or friends change their game, etc)? A lot to consider...

I recently moved 3 months ago, and I've had the skaven well over a year.

How many of you guys saying "It might be a phase" are just saying it to help keep fantasy alive? I know it has a harder time than other tabletop games in the US.

Furthermore I stared the hobby in 40k, and only branched off as an experiment. The amount of rats I have is only thanks to ebay and friends, involving the starter set.

As much as I hate to see a player quit, well, it's a game. Having fun is the whole and entire point. If you're not having fun...

Seems like you've already dropped it. I would keep the Skaven for a fixed period-say 6 weeeks. Play 40k for that time. If you never go back to square bases, them sell or trade them after the fixed period..and get more round bases.

Alternitivey, why not start Deamons? You could play them in both systems. Base them on round bases (seeing as you are, at heart, a 40k player) but get a fantasy army book (chould you feel the urge in the future..), and you're set...

Drop what you dont use. Trade it for something you love!

I hold on to my skavens because I used to love how they play, now .... for sentimental values -.-

But you should sell the book while its useable,
keeping it till it eventually become obsolete is just wasting $40

I felt the same way about 40K, there is no reason to keep what you dont like. At the most you could keep like 500 points and the book on the off chance to play a small game, but if everyone at your store plays 40K and that is what you love just go with it.

Several times I have sold off ALL my models when drifting away from wargaming. Each time I've regretted it and now only sell off the stuff I end up with extra of, usually from ebay job lots.
Keep it handy, if nothing else for two years to sell it for probably more than you paid with GW price rises ;-) .

I'd drop them, if your ratio is really only 1/100

Other than taking up shelf space and looking cool, it doesn't sound like your skaven are doing much for you, or fantasy for that matter.

I'm shelving them for now, possibly selling them if thar be a need for cash for anything 40k releated, which is my only real big expense. I'm going to keep the skaven codex, but probably going to off the rulebooks.

I wish I liked playing the game, but for some reason, it feels off to me. I mean I love playing the total war games, which are similar in combat terms, but fantasy? It just doesn't sit well. I thought it was because I didn't understand how to play at first, but now I see I simply don't like the style.

Thanks for everyone's input. Furthermore, if anyone is looking for ratmen, send me a pm

Fantasy is such a different game from every other wargame in that the game is not won in any kind of combat phase, not even the magic phase, the game is won and lost in the movement phase. Moving your massive armies is more improtant than how much you can shoot and how well you can hit in melee - mostly beucase it's the one thing you have the most control over.

Ahh well at any rate I think you made the right decision. I voted keep the models Even if I am looking for a reasonablly priced used skaven lot

Current Armies:

Warmachine:
Shae Pirate's Life 50
Durgen attrition 50

WH40K:
Orks (5,000 pt Apoc Kan Wall, 1850 Bikerz)
Grey Knights (1850 Crowe Purifiers, 2500 'Ard Boyz Draigo)
Sisters of Battle (Seraphim spam)

WHFB:
2400 Empire
3000 Tomb Kings

Yea I discovered that movement was key, just like with the total war games. But then, I found myself unable to move around to my liking, due to the size of the battlefield.

Get out of my hobby you filthy round base tank pusher...But all jokes aside I know how you feel I started WHFB when 8th came out and now 40k feels a bit lacking in depth.

Hang on to your models tho you never know they may change the game to your liking down the track. I am still keeping all my orks in the hope that 6th edition 40k will have a stronger emphasis on maneuver.

Damn I cant wait to the GW legal team codex comes out now there is a dex that will conquer all.

Definatly keep them! I wish I still had what I collected as a teen, before taking a decade break and then returning. Starting out fresh after a few price increases is a bit scarey!

Im so glad i sold my fantasy models, they were distracting me from the hobby. It was one more thing that i had to convert, model, paint that prevented me from enjoying the 40k with my friends. I also find that friends come and go out of the hobby and if you really want more fantasy you can get them cheap from someone on the way out.
