Ranges are also important, damaging the unit on 1's, what bonuses and stratagems can be applied, etc.

Yup we'll dive into that as well, but assume any buffs/bonuses/strats available are equivalent.

Weapon A seems like the best all rounder of them - ties for first in T8, wins in both T7s, and is second place in all other areas. The ones it is behind on too is a small enough gap that I would call it "good enough" unless I was expecting someone to take a lopsided list like all Leman Russ tanks or all fliers.
Weapoon B is better for heavy armor, but is looks to be significantly worse in all other regards, and Weapon C seems like it is primarily an AA gun. The problem is that the all rounder Weapon A is better vs light armor, tied for heavy armor with invuln, and only slightly worse than the specialists at their jobs.
Long story short I voted A.

I cannot believe the people who voted for "W", like...are you insane? "W" has been overpowered since that one White Dwarf article. You can even tell because you know how many "W"s you see at top tables? 104%. They won 64 of 58 major GTs just this past weekend.
As usual, all the meta-chasers are just going to run "W", and ignore "W". As a "W" player for the last 25 years, it would have been nice if we'd received half the attention that "W" got. Oh well, maybe next year. I hope "W" gets nerfed in Chapter Approved 2019...and maybe, just maybe, we'll see "W" get a buff.

Dude, shut up. No one should vote for "W", when "W" isn't as strong as "W". It never has been. "W" deserves all the dislike it's getting. You can't just ignore "W" and pretend "W" isn't super OP compared to "W". Typical "W" player I guess...

Now that is uncalled for. I was running "W" last edition when it was trash, it isn't my fault they changed its rules and gave it Strength W.

Well, if you guys hadn't been complaining about "W" being Heavy 22, we wouldn't be having this discussion at all!

So this poll reminds me of GW rule design, makes little sense, obviously was placed without any meaningful play testing and we're left waiting for a FAQ because right now the RAW crowd is using the open ended meaning to ruin everyones fun because we know how they intended W but we can't prove it with how it's written.

"W" is the worst option in "mono W", but I'm going to insist on running it exclusively while being angry at GW for never winning a game even though I could run "W", which is at least half decent, in my list instead but I refuse to buy any new models to support "W" over "W", and godforbid that I use "W" which was actually a competitive choice a few months ago before the FAQ and "W" codex release.

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades! |

I feel a little ripped off by the change to W. When I started 20 hours ago the game was all about A, B, and C. Now, it’s all so samey. W, or W, or W. Where’s the meaningful choices?
If I wanted to play W, I’d have bought W. Now I’ve got a bunch of useless C that got Squatted for no reason.

For all those complaining about W, have you tried to just have a conversation with your opponent about whether or not to have W in your game? You don't need to play with GW's enforcement of W as it is, and everyone that plays W in the wrong way is just a TFG.

Except the RAW says that "W" works this way, not in the way that everybody is using it, because of the way there's a comma here on this sentence! It's clearly intended that "W" be like "W" from a plain-text reading of the rules, but if you actually read it it doesn't work like that at all! Here, let me add that to my hyperlinked signature of all the ways everybody else is using "W" wrong.

Look, you're free to play W however you want. However, it doesn't change what W actually says. You may not like it but not liking it doesn't change the rules. I myself will play W the way it's meant to be played, the way W is written in the book. There is no logically consistent way you can justify ignoring W but enforcing VV.

This whole thread invalidates all of my w options though, I don't want to play at W scale. The game was fine when it was just w, now we have W all over the place, dominating tournaments.

I know. W should be banned from 40k and be Apocalypse only.
Alternatively, just play Apocalypse at 100-150pl. W are nowhere near as much of a problem and w are actually viable.

Tell me about it. If I wanted a game filled with W, I would have stuck with W...you know, the game based entirely around W that GW decided to forget about. Ridiculous.

Look, I'm an aerospace engineer and this qualifies me to talk authoritatively about anything at all, and I have produced a plot with MATLAB showing the the power of "W" vs. "W", that can be interpreted to verify all existing biases about "W" and is wholly meaningless out of context.
As you can see "W" is amazing after receiving this ridiculous through-the-roof buff, and "W" is completely trash, this should settle the matter once and for all because of the power of arbitrary numbers.
