Biography: As a youth in 2002, I saw the first few magazines of the new LotR wargaming range by Games Workshop. Parents said no, too pricey plus you'll probably get bored of it. Six years later began collecting them, the magazines would retrospectively have been much cheaper. In rural-ish Wales, no real gaming clubs were around so I was content to paint the characters from my favorite movies. Then I saw this 'Warhammer 40k' stuff and was ... intrigued. Started collecting and painting the Smurfs, and mostly concentrating on the painting, gaming was non-existent as far as I knew. Tried tyranids but they're a pain to paint, tried to batch-paint an entire box, not fun. Then I tried this weird 'Warhammer Fantasy'. A small Empire force was created. Then ... I read the Malus Darkblade novels in Uni. I now have a 6k+(ish) point Dark Elves Army.
I found my first gaming club and gamer friends in uni and a bunch of minor projects sprouted - a three chapter Space Marine force, some Eldar, Night Lords, Orks - few of these came to fruition. I branched away from GW stuff during the end of uni, a Dystopian Wars EotBS fleet was formed, a LOT of Infinity Yu Jing models, a Khador starter set that ended horribly. Then I burned out and decided to slim down on the collection. Most of my extraneous models were in 40k, so I decided to slim 40k down to only Dark Eldar and Imperial forces.
I am now in 40k only because I’m an Admin on a 40k FB page, and in WHFB only because Dark Elves. Otherwise I’d have been done with GW a while ago. Third party stores and the eBay second hand market are my hunting grounds, and I recently began assembling a Necromunda Delaque force.
