With the release of the New IG Codex, and new models such as the Catachan and Cadian Command Squads, the Valkyie is probably one of the most long anticipated releases since its announcement. That being said, with the capability of fielding 3 in 1 squadron, How will you field that newly build badboy? Will it be a mass infantry shredder with its multilaser, rocket pods, and 2 HBs? or a Tanks worst nightmare, in the Shape of a Vendetta Gunship, armed to the teeth with 3 twin linked Lascannons? (which i noticed are not in the box?) Or maybe you want a balanced feel of infantry mayhem with tank hunting capabilities. YOU CHOOSE!!!!......and let me know because i can't decide my self hahaha

Another question I've been wondering is what kind of Squad to put in the thing. Veteran? Regular? Stormtrooper? What and what to arm them with as well?

I plan to use make two squadrons

Squadron One will be tank hunting, while Squadron two will be supporting the veterans and stormtroopers dropping out of the back of the bird to capture his objective ;-)

I haven't decided about the one shot missiles though; my first instinct is to ditch them. However, a well placed Hellstrike could ruin about any tank driver's day on the side armor.

3 TL-lascannons will ALWAYS ruin someone's day though :-D

I'm not sure. I'm going to be running an infantry-heavy Catachan army, so I could just use lots of heavy weapon teams for anti-tank, and I'll still have Russes to kill infantry as well as my many snipers, flamers, and lasguns. I suppose I'll go with anti-tank. I will put my melta-veterans in them and drop 'em behind tanks.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

The number one way IG has to deal with tanks is three meltas in a veteran squad or a special weapon squad and drop them off in a valkyrie.

It's shame that it's not two meltas in a Storm Trooper squad, but 16 points a model is slowed for a guard infantry unit.

Was thinking of tying up all my anti-tank in 3 of those Vendetta bad-boys... thats if i actually play 40k ever...
Seems very fluffy to me, using the Valks to provide surgical strikes upon enemy emplacements/vehicles or MC's, leave the guardsmen to shred stuff with lasguns.

As for modelling... well i was going to just mount six lascannons under the wings, facing forwards, to represent the valkyre swooping in to demolish some unseen tank... or all poking out one side to present a devestating Broadside as it flies down...

Wish there was an anti-infantry vendetta with 3x twinlinked Bolters...

Ive built my first three, 2 vendettas, 1 Valkyrie Gunship. I would do the magnettic wing weapons but since the fuselage gun is very hard to magnetize im just purpose building them. I wil probaly get another 2 Vendettas and Pod Valk and then run them in three squadrons of 2 each, all carrying Vets.

Only reason to run Stormies over Vets is fluff, the Vets are just way more effective for the points.

1. Storm Troopers are always crap, be they 10-point irrelevances in the DH/WH Codex, or the 16-point overpriced wastes of space in the new Guard Codex.
2. I play an Inquisitorial army using Storm Troopers as my main troop type, and all the really gakky units (Daemonhosts, Arco-Flagellants) filling my other choices. Do you think I care about how powerful they are?
3. I've always wanted my Inquisitorial army to be the high-tech army that's airborne and flies into battle, where as my Cadians have the Chimeras. Now I can do that.

it's a cool idea but can you accomplish this (6 valks all with Inquisitorial Stormtroopers) in a standard 40k game? if you use the IG as a base, you still have to take 2 troops from the IG codex before you fill out the daemon/witch-hunter allies. if you use DM/WH as a base, can you take 3 squads of 2 valks? pretty much anything goes in apoc so no problem there.

i'll be picking up two valks and using multilasers, heavy bolter sponsons, and multiple rocket pods. for me personally, i can't have split purpose units as they'll just accomplish nothing in two categories with the way i play. with all anti-infantry weapons, i won't be tempted to fire at vehicles with the valk so they can 100% support the stormtroopers they're dropping off. of course, this decision is heavily influenced by the fact that i'd have to buy an additonal $15 in plastic bits or the even more expensive vendetta forgeworld kit in order to do anti-armor. why two valks? because i'll be able to fit that many in a GW hardcase (have extra) with some battlefoam. also, i have two units of stormtroopers painted up.

If you use DH/WH as the parent List you cant take Valkyries at all. Best you would be able to do is 4 Inquisitorial Storm Troopers and 2 Vet Squads.

Awesome looking Valk Troy!

I'll probably go with the 2/1 infantry killer. You never know when you'll need that emergency tank shot.

As for troops inside... I'm thinking of trying Ogryn led by Commissar Yarrick. Oh sure it's a crazy point sink, but just think of the look on your opponent's face:

"Ok, so it's at this point here that the back of the air craft opens and giant ab-humans leap forth, yell Geronimo, and pull the rip-cords, lead by a grumpy Old man who can kill you at a glance and soak fire like a monsterous creature."

Of course, paratrooper ogryn would look much cooler with goggles. I need to work that out still.

Yes, the "Ogryn? Phew! Thank God he didn't bring GK Terminators for the same points he spent on useless overpriced Ogryn" look.
