OH, and by the way... I posted on the 'you make da call' with respect to 'immobilized vehicles being able to contest objectives'. The responses have seemingly confirmed my stand on the issue. Essentially, there is no exact rule that says immobilized vehicles can or cannot contest. However, the rules do state that 'any unit' can contest, which therefore includes vehicles. Given that there is no rule that then denies that permission to contest if the vehicle is immobilized, an immobilized vehicle CAN contest.

"There isn't a rule saying immobilized vehicles can't contest, therefore they can - because all units can"

Apparently there was a denial of such an action in the 4 ed rules, but no such denial exists in the 5th ed rules.

And I already beat ya to the punch, and once again an earlier edition weeds its way back into 5th edition rules. Sometimes i think it would be better if i hadn't of played 2/3/4 editions because of the amount of times i've had to look up a rule that i thought was true and couldn't find any mention of is getting rediculous . Can only imagine how 6th edition will be for everyone when it comes out lol.

I love when my cardboard boxes are targeted in the last turn while they sit on an objective, and the damage roll results in an 'immobilized'... That still Contests baby! Even my upside down piece of terrain proxy for a venom could have contested... oh wait... it wasn't actually immobilized was it Kungfu? We just forgot that it was an actual venom and it didn't move all game! he he

Hi Tomb-inator, not too many of us playing fantasy right now, but talk to CGB Spender, he has a fantasy army and I think he started a thread in the Find a Game forum for Toronto Fantasy as well.

"We" didn't forget it was a venom, You did. I just assumed all the terrain on the table was actually terrain, and since the 'rock' didn't move or shoot for turns 2-5 I had no reason to suspect it was really an expertly hidden skimmer. Although next time, if it happens again, if you put an infantry model on the rock, instead of a pile of dice, I can garuntee I'll notice it and remind you to use it.

I'll bring the Wracks with me, the Incubi are assembled and base coated, but I'm in the middle of shading/highlighting their armor, so not 100% if I can have them for Sunday.

I am not sure yet about what I may or may not need. Actually, I probably need the beasts more than anything else, because at least I have make-shift models for wracks and incubi. Have the beasts been started at all? No rush... I can do without it all for the tourney...just curious. I may field some wracks and/or incubi. Had some great games today DEE, basically a blow out in both directions with 2 different armies, makes it pretty easy to decide which list to bring to the tournie on sunday . Either way had a great time today, plus I got to see 2 tau armies today which really blows my mind since i haven't seen tau in years lol and i even saw a chaos demons army so you know it was a good day. Can't wait for sunday and all the craziness that goes on with a tournie, see everyone bright and early 9:30/10am .

To anyone who is going to GW Yonge and Lawrence tomorrow for Fantasy night: sadly, I won`t be able to make it tomorrow. I will probably be good for next week, however.

Yes, Rythem and I had some good games. I just cannot beat those darn Nids... but I did have some fun with the Blood Angels. Wych squads in combat for 3 full turns and still slugging it out!! I finally got my Talos Pain Engines into a fight as well, which was a nice change of events for me.

Spender played Fantasy by himself.

Kungfu and Shiboo were there.

Also met a few new guys who were playing Tau versus Chaos Demons... cool models!!! I might start an army of Demons... I like.

What Heavy units should I field in the tourney??? Anyone?? Razorwing Jet Fighters, Ravagers, Talos Pain Engines??

So a great tournie today! Lots of ups and downs, met some new players and had a great time. Everything was run very smoothly and would like to say thanks to Legends for running and hosting today, very much appreciated .

Also, a wee bit more terrain is always good. Without the 25 percent coverage it's rough on non-mechanized armies.

There will more tournament in the near future.
We had a cut off of twelve for this one but we could have had atleast 18 -24 that wanted to be add in the last few day.

@Kungfu, All the tables had a min. of 25% terrain but more terrain and more tables are on the way.

And just to be clear, you definately have the nicest tables/best variety out of anyone I've played at, especially GW. You really get into it when the tables/terrain have that kind of effort at a store instead of just using the out of box GW stuff they have.

I also, like the ratings for the victory. It really adds a lot more to the game to keep playing hard. You're aiming for a major victory instead of just camping out, or you're playing right to the end to not have a major loss. If we end up with a league set-up, that's something to copy and build on.

Did someone mention a league???? I know Legends would host and offer prize support. If they don't want the work of managing the logistics and stats, etc, I would be more than happy to do that part. I think a league would be awesome. If people are interested in a league, let's start the dialogue now so we can get it going.

I was wondering if that meant that Tau vehicles with disruption pods, or vehicles that used smoke grenades would get their saves since like the seeker missiles it's not a LOS related obscured but comes from wargear.

I'll have to read up on it, but hive guard ignoring cover has nothign to do with los, HG shooting without needing los is another part of their rules. Them ignoring cover saves is about how much area terrain you are in, and if you can claim a save from it normally. If you are willing to put your vehicle in area terrain you can claim a cover save against HG is what their faq is about.

I can stay till about 5 tomorrow, need to get home to make some dinner for the gf.

Ahh ok i've read it and i see where your coming from and i'd agree with you except the tyranid faq specifically has a rule stating that the only way to gain a cover save vs the imapler cannon (HG gun) is by being in area terrain.

Cool. So I have to keep my chimeras 25 inches away from them. Noted.

Technically 30 inches away, since they can move 6 and fire 24 .

Why won't they have room? They don't play magic on the wargaming tables?

They said they had 60+ people coming in for it, so i wouldn't be surprised if they needed the 40k tables, when i was in on thrusday they let me know about the release and that finding a table could be difficult.

Just want to let everyone know that I am leaving the province for 4 weeks as of May 2, 2012. Therefore, I will not be around to play Warhammer, but when I come back on May 31, 2012, I expect to have a Tyranid army ready (SPENDER!!!!) to pound the snot of you all as regularly as you may wish to be pounded. Also, upon my return I will certainly be putting together a league. I will contact you when I return Optimus so we can generate ideas about the logistics. Also, I know Joffrey and Styrofoam wanted to be part of setting up the league... need to pull Styrofoam back to the hobby from his Dungeons and Dragons!

Sharp1011 put on a very well organised and fun tournament. The missions were awesome, one had a baneblade driving around the table(which it's self was a great looking snow table, even if you took some of it with you when you left). I ended up tied for 1st going into the last match but lost 11-4 VP to Mike (I forget his dakka name) and his clown orks. He layed them very well, I had a couple of bad reserve rolls and he took advantage of it. Oh well that's the game.

Everyone I played was having a blast and it seems like it was a great success. I'm looking forward to the next one.

@yellow_fist, you just joined the club! You aren't far from Meeplemart (Carlaw and Queen) and you can usually find people player there on Sundays. When ever you feel like playing just make a post in this thread and you can usually get a few people to meet you. We're a friendly bunch (most of us at least, Dark Eldar Elite can be a little of a jerk I kid I kid, I only say that because I haven't beaten you yet) and we are always up for a game or several. Just keep an eye on the thread!

Welcome! I know that several guys play at Meeplemart and there are also a bunch of us that regularly play on Sundays at Legends (Langstaff and hwy 400). We always welcome new faces, and the only way to improve from novice to better is through playing. The guys on this forum thread are laid back and easy to get along with. Hope to see you out soon.

Yeah, his hours are odd but he does have his reasons for it.

I should mention that Steve is looking for a new location closer to the downtown core where he will start opening on more regular hours.

Come on down to Meeplemart this Sunday! We meet up there almost every Sunday Afternoon (the store is open 12-6). The store is at 290 Carlaw just two blocks north of Queen. Go in this door marked 290, go up the stairs on the right and it's just down the hall on the 2nd floor. You can find pictures of the gaming space in the Tournament Gallery I just posted up this weekend to get an idea of what the store looks like!

Ooo, i accept that challenge. See if my nids have grown at all by then. At this point i got my last few FT assembled, just need to start painting and then they should be all done, so it'll be nids after that .

That was an awesome tournament (and I'm not just saying that cause I won )

I really liked the format and the missions, definitely a nice change of pace from the normal 3 missions with 3 deployments.

Lots of really nice looking armies out there and a great crowd to boot.

Terrain was really really great as well, excellent detail and design.

Thanks to Steve for hosting and to Mike for doing a great job organizing (and answering my 30+ questions at the start of each round).

Looking forward to future events!

To everyone who is going to Meeplemart this Sunday, I'll probably heading down there as well for the first time. Chances are, I might also be bringing some of my fellow gamers along as well, just to check the place out.

Okay, so Spender and Rythem are going to be at Legends at 11 a.m. You can get a game in before I arrive, for sure. My wife works until 5:30 p.m, so you could definitely play a game at 11 and then I will arrive and we can play a game either 3-way or 1-on-1, I like both. I will bring an 1850 list. We could do 3000 Nids versus 1500 Dark and 1500 Necrons? Anyway, you guys decide. But my point is that you can definitely get a game in before I arrive... I will come at like 1:30 and I'm fine even if my game doesn't get to start until 2 ish.

I'm going to be trying out a new list. Proxy two Ghost Arks as two Doomsday Arks. They're pretty much the same model, except upside down.

Proxies are fine with me, long as it's easy to remember.

Bring your army just incase, at this point i don't know how long i can stay either after the first game, was going to watch a bit of yours and see what time it got to.

Ahh kungfu normally i'd be all over that but i'm dragging my gf to see avengers at 1pm. Actually forcing her to take the day off work so we can avoid all the kids/teens that normally flood these kinds of movies later in the day. They are calling for thunderstorms wednesday .

Cool, I'll keep that in mind. I actually just traded my space marines to my brother for his nids, so I'm starting a tyranid army instead of Tau. Hopefully there will be more models then proxies in the next 2 weeks.

Ah, curses. I've already left the house and without my army in tow. Usually, I leave it in the car, but I brought it into the house to check something last night, I didn't load it back up. :/

I think there will be a few days of bad weather this week and I'll make sure to pack up the army when I get home so I'm able to take advantage.

I went to mexico for vacation. When I got back I caught the 40k bug again. As for D&D im still waiting on players. So far I have guarenteed 2 players. A friend and yourself. I need at least two more players who will be available to play once or twice a month. So far the other players I had, cant give me their availability. So untill I get more players its on hold. I have written 20 pages of story. It would be a shame not to play it out

As for kungfu's nids i let him use some of mine so we could do a couple 1850 games today. First game was a massacre with me basically tabling him. Second was another story all together, where he took it right back to me and i had to conceed with only lemartes left on the table sporting 1 wound. Both really good games either way though seeing my nids out on the table just makes me want to play them so much more than my FT's.

I wasn't tabled. You just killed everything on the table except for 3 or 4 warriors by turn 4. I'm sure that once the spore with my last 20 termagants landed, they and the surviving warriors would have killed the remaining 80 percent of your army. :/

Don't worry, I'm looking into picking a whole lot up soon, so you won't have to share or team up with the dark eldar. All alien bug monster beach party.

Ya we are doing mothers day on Sat.
Dungeons & Dragons is a dice, pen and paper RPG. You create a character almost anything you can think of. I create a story and you and 3 others play it out(min 4 players or you will all die). We meet once or twice a month and have 6-8 hour sessions. Your character does whatever you can think of and I tell you the out come. I have all the books, I have the dice, computer programs. All you need is your imagination.

Nids, Dark Eldar and Tau... oh yeah baby... can't wait to return... hope I remember all the rules.

I am not sure what your ready to play. i have lists from 1500 to 2500. how many points of nids do you have?

I wouldn't mind trying out a 1500 point list or two. I'll have a few proxies, but not so many you won't know which army you're fighting.

Since we always meet for games, we should also have make a day were we play a game but also make use of some of the tables for some painting or modeling. I really want to paint these tyranids up nice, but I know I can use some tips on the finer techniques.

Weekends would seem to be better for that as we wouldn't have the same kind of time restrictions plus it's more likely people will be free to game.

Oh and a big thanks to Build in for the thrashings. I have a pretty good idea of exactly how much firepower a Tyranid army can eat as it sowly dies. Much lie the hive fleets before us, we have learned well the lessons clashing with the Dark eldar, marines and Tau. Hive Fleet Fenrier is just creaping in. All will fall and be consumed.

Actually it releases at 8pm tonight, which is what i'll be playing all night. But by wednesday i could be pulled away to game during the day for a bit before playing again at night, mostly going to be teaming up with a couple friends and playing with them and they work during the day.

I was thinking of maybe picking up a 3rd army just because in the past week it seems like 10 other regulars at Legends also decided to build a Nids army!!!! So, any opinions on what army would be a good one to buy? I do like playing stuff that is a bit more rare-to-see, if you will. Tau? Grey Knights? help. I also don't know anything about the infantry units for sale by Built-in.... are they good? I like that they will be painted...

Grey Knights are seen as one of the most powerful books right now.

As a reference, at the recent Adepticon tournament in Chicago, someone tallied that 22% of the armies that went were Grey Knights (from a pool of like 240 players.)

As an example, take their Strike Squad (basic Troop choice) and compare them to Tactical Marines.

100pts for 5 Strike Squads guys (and a sergeant.)
90pts for 5 Tactical Marines (and a sergeant.)

Marines have bolters, pistols, frags, and kraks.
Strike Squads have Storm Bolters (so superior to bolters and pistols,) frags, kraks, psyk outs, and Force Weapons on everyone (power weapons that can suck souls.)

One could argue that 10pts would pay for the power weapons alone.

But the Strike Squad can also Deep Strike, has the Aegis rule (-1 to psychic tests that target them,) and has 2 psychic powers (+1 str and Warp Quake.)

Now, once you look at 10 man squads it's a different story, but the 5 man example does demonstrate what you get for your points.

And Strike Squads aren't even that popular in competitive builds (so you can imagine how powerful their other choices are.)

So is anyone else up for games on Sunday at Legends?

Ok guys I think that we all need to start GK armies and have a big 10 way battle with them. Winner gets to play their army into 6 th Ed.

It's kind of funny for me, I started my Knights army last October or so and since I've never gotten to get to a store, I've never been able to play them. Now after seeing that a bunch of you are starting them and how prevalent they're becoming, I don't WANT them any more. I went out and bought like 3 squads worth of Purifiers, Crowe, Rhinos.... Now I guess I'm stuck with a bunch of Knights for a while. If I do come back to the GTA for college, maybe I'll have completed another project by then.

I figure I'll ask here before anywhere else, do any of you have any interest in taking some/all of them off my hands? I might be up for a swap of some kind if you don't want to buy them, seeing as I'll be needing a new project. If not, I might hit the Swap Shop, but I'd rather give it to somebody in person you know. All of it is assembled except the Raider 3 Purifier Squads (1 Hammer, 5 Halberds, 4 Psycannons and all the sprues), 2/3 Rhinos (1 Heavy Bolter Razorback, not glued), and an unbuilt still on sprue Crusader/Redeemer. Also Crowe.

I wish I could get some practice in but with weddings the next two weekends, a demanding job and a 6 month old it is hard to find free time. All the free time I have is put towards painting and modeling so i may not be able to practice unfortunately. I still have a fair bit to paint up for my orks to be tourney ready. Yes there has been. There's been several posts on a bunch of forums. Some store have already got he new prices as well. It's not across the board only on some models. GW usually does 2 price inceases a year, 1 in June and 1 in July, but they usually target different models with them.

FYI the reason they do 2 price increases is their fiscal year end is in June so they get to put one on the books for 2011 and one for 2012

Well, thanks for telling me about the price increase. I'd seen a lot of posts about it, but I was still hoping that it would be a rumour. Honestly, this whole "fiscal year" business brings back bad memories of accounting class....

Yeah, he doesn't carry any Finecast yet and those models just recently were made unavailable in Metal. I'm sure he will have to carry Finecast stuff eventually, but that doesn't help you right now
